Cal seems like a rough job with USC, Washington and even Stanford all being good go great at the same time. Throw in UCLA and the recruiting pickings must be slim.

Didn't realize Cal was losing so much money in athletics. I guess they really do think a new coach may be able to raise more money. Because they're hemorrhaging it now and also have to pay Dykes' buyout now.

I think they're still trying to pay off their stadium remodel.

Holy shit, Mario Cristobal to Oregon. Never thought he was a great coach, but damn, could he recruit. That's gonna sting.

Yeah, good recruiter, meh OL coach. Hopefully Saban can pick up a decent recruiter who can coach better. Been disappointed in the OL as long as Cristobal has been there.

Hard to gripe too much about their being a drop off after having the best offensive line in the history of college football, but we seem to have tanked (relatively) since 2012. Hope that's cleaned up over the offseason.

Had to do a massive project on the stadium. The Hayward Fault runs directly underneath it--literally; you used to be able to tell exactly where the fault was as the old stadium walls became misaligned because of it--and it's needed refitting for decades.

That's the single biggest issue for Cal money-wise. Spending big on a coach who ended up failing is bad, but secondary.

Schools run debt cause they money they make off of donors and their assets is usually greater than the money needed when financed.

If you can bring in 8% vs a 5% loan you're coming out ahead.

Hey, our LS just graduated, and was basically a 5 star at the LS position out of high school (a 3 star)

Don't think he had a single bad snap in his 4 year career, and the only punt block was a finger tip against Clemson in his last game, which is on the punter, if anything. Basically a perfect career for his position.

We just got another 3* at that position too. Hope he pans out.

The Process continues.

Just a bit of a surprise, since I hadn't heard ANY chatter that Battle was stepping down.

Never even realized that Alabama lost it's 2nd consecutive kicker prospect. Ruiz decommitted and committed to Arizona State in the last 2 days.

Are we now in that phase were CFB fans have to focus creepily on 17-18 yo kids hoping they come to their program as Jesus and Savior?

Time to post some shirtless pics y'all!
Yeah does FSU have their calendar out yet?

I keep up with recruiting via following the normal beat writers. But subscribing to $9.95 sites is where it stops. It's a really boring time of the year, but NSD is one of the milestones of the offseason. Don't think spring practices are too much further after that.

Do you think that the reason Alabama's vaunted best defense in cbf history by regular season statistics was actually a result of sec quarterback play actually just being complete crap. Its something I've heard around the media. I think Alabama's defence is pretty amazing but I do think they were hurt in the championship game by constantly facing mediocre qbs during the regular season.

Fulmer might be the next AD at Tennessee. Feel like the days of former coaches being made AD are pretty much over. More of an administrative role now.

Probably was no longer able to live up to Saban's standards.

75 years old, and wanted his role as AD to be an interim at the beginning, but signed on for the 4 years with no plans to continue after.

Well, Washington and Western Kentucky ended up top 5 in Passing rating, and both did very poorly. As it seems, there was only 1 or 2 elite QB's in this year of College Football, and one of them was on Clemson.

Hey cdy, was Sarrell going to Stanford a big blow to UW, or was he always a lean somewhere else?

The thought on $9.95 was that he was always a Stanford lean - he said it was his dream school growing up (thanks Tyrone Willingham) - but UW had a shot. Would have been a huge get, but it's not a crippling loss. They're still recruiting guys and I have faith in Petersen to develop guys. Our OL is still relatively young, so they should be better going forward regardless, and they had a pretty good year this season all things considered.

Going to need to dominate the North for a few more years before we can start winning those types of battles against Stanford, I imagine.

Hopefully y'all let us take care of DJ Johnson for you though :p
