The problem with that is Rogue One 2 is A New Hope.
You're written into a box when you write a prequel film with new characters, because then people ask "Well, where the fuck were they during the OT?"

I figured any follow up would send the Rogue One crew off to some far-flung corner of the galaxy on some secret and urgent mission running parallel to Empire, just to avoid the usual "where's the Avengers/Justice League during this film?" stuff.

And hence people don't like Ewoks.

Yeah I'm not trying to say Ewoks or Gungans are great. They're not. But I also agree with the guy who said that people would lose their shit if they introduced something like the Jawa's today and gave then just as much screentime as they got in A New Hope.

People often like to act like Star Wars is a lot more adult than it really is. Embrace the sillyness, I say.

Which isn't the same as being okay with Gungans obviously. There is a line somewhere.

The outside world: The socio-political undertones of Rogue One, the dramatic increase in minority representation, is the current national situation is causing increased emotional resonance in audiences, are Baze & Chirrut more than friends...

Welcome home.

Well it would be Rogue Two, which would be the Bothan spies getting the plans for Death Star Dos.

But that wouldn't be interesting.

Just stick to the Young Han, Boba Fett flicks for now.

Old Republic would be the next logical "stories" to tell after the current 3 stories wave/7 8 9.

Rogue Two is the movie about how the rebels found Luke and Han hiding inside a reeking Tauntaun carcass.

I mean, let's just specifically focus on Jyn and crew.
They risked their lives, this is Jyn's father's life work, that he died for, that her caretaker died for, that her friends died for. Why would she not stick around with the rebellion to at least see it through? You'd either have to retcon the OT and add her In, witch people would grab pitchforks over
Do an asspull, which lowers the quality of the movie
Or kill em, which they did and I think it was the best choice in this instance.

The assault on Starkiller was still pretty cool, but they dialed it back to focus on the saber fight which was one of the best in the series. So you can have your Rogue One space battle :p

I'm not super interested in space battles unless a main character is participating. ANH had Luke, for example, and that was the climax of the film.

The protagonists in TFA were squarely involved with the Kylo Ren shenanigans.

I remember they had a super dumb explanation for the scrapped plan to have capital ship combat in TFA, but now I'm wondering if they were just saving that knowing that Rogue One would deliver in that department.

Which I totally wasn't expecting. Thought it would be ground combat focused based on trailers. The fact that I had forgot that the opening crawl of ANH references the space battle in Rogue One made it even more of a pleasant surprise for me.

What? Either you aren't comprehending it correctly, or you aren't making any sense at all.
I don't know what I'm talking about when mentioning the trailers that I saw that had the footage that was cut from the final movie was the same footage that got me interested in the film to begin with? The scenes were either much darker, or they seemed more like Star Wars in general. I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

It doesn't matter if the scenes "didn't fit" according to Disney. That's not what I was talking about at all, and you don't know if they fit either.

Not the film I saw.

oh yeah, forest whitaker's character was completely different than what I expected. It was horrible.

As for stories I'd like for them to explore:

Obi Wan's time in hiding right after the fall of the republic

Vader solo film, or at least another film with Vader being the main antagonist, maybe the same time frame as Obi Wan in exile

Something to expand the ST or something between OT and ST

Right I'm gonna jump on the nitpick train for a sec, real talk now.

Lyra's (Jyn's mother) death was fucking dumb.

I read Catalyst before watching this film, and her threatening Krennic at gunpoint when death was clearly the only outcome was... an odd decision. More-so knowing quite a bit about her backstory and how much Jyn meant to both her and Galen.

You just watch yourself , we're wanted men

Best cameo

Is that why they lingered on that dude's ugly fucking face

Ya that was stupid but worth it for Krennic's deadpan IT'S A MIRACLE

I might have missed something, but why did gerrera not leave with them ?

Well the whole place was falling down and he couldn't exactly run.

I think he pretty much gave up. Which, knowing what he's all about, is another weird out of character move.

This film was really rocky in the first half but I love it all the same.

Yes. A bit uncanny valley to me, although I thought Leia looked spot on.

Yeah same, and I've heard people saying that Tarkin looked incredible whilst Leia looked weird. Go figure.

Dumb, yes but I think the point is, she'd rather die than go back to the empire, especially being held hostage and if she takes Krennic with her that's still major damage dealt to the empire.

Yeah I get you... she should've shot Galen, then herself if she wanted to do some real damage!

I need a whole movie of Galen and Krennic.

Dude, please read Rogue One: Catalyst. It's what you're asking for and more.

D:
Even if he walked slowly, he could have at least tried
Honestly what's the point lmao. Might aswel try to die as peacefully as possible.

I think the assumption is that both her and Galen would die but uh, that didn't pan out lol.

And like Galen said, if he didn't do it, someone else wouldve and quicker at that.

I now imagine those two characters, having narrowly avoided dying at the hands of the Death Star, head to Tatoooine shaken by their experience. All they want is a quiet drink and to forget, until sone farmboy gets all up in their business. Not a great week for them.

And yet the guys from the cantina suddenly ran into Jyn.

That was the lamest part. Just "look at what we did"ness to it.

I enjoyed it. It was well made, beginning was a bit disjointed with lots of location changes. Forest Whitaker's role seemed a bit useless.

Of course, Vader at the end was awesome. Tarkin CG was just enough off to make me question the use of it.

Knew everyone was going to die for the plans. It was the only thing that would make sense.

Oh yeah, another lol movies nitpick.

Jyn reaching her dying father just in time after climbing a 500m tower so hear his last words. Then being dragged away after "he's gone".

I should probably say again at this point that I loved Rogue One. But some parts made me laugh in the wrong way.

What's the vader pun everyone's talking about?

Also, as someone that gets to wear the vader suit from time to time(charity events and such), I couldn't stop watching his neck.

I did! I wish there would be a sequel but it would probably be kind of uninteresting to have a book about how Galen slows down the Death Star's construction for 13 years.
