Superman #7 might be the best Super-Man comic I've ever read

(After All-Star Superman)

Will I need to read #1 - 6 to appreciate #7?

And so far I've stuck to Detective and Wonder Woman, and they've both been knocking it out of the park.

I've read part 1 and 2 of Night of the Monster Men, and I really couldn't get on with the writing of part 1. What really got me was how everyone maintains code names while on mission in tec (including Bat's reprimand to Spoiler in #940), whereas in Batman everyone's on a first name basis out in the open. It's always been a gripe (I hated it in the Arkham games), so it was nice to see Tynion use it, even if Orlando didn't...

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?

No, you won't. It's very self contained.

I really hope Justice League improves.

I dropped it after issue 2. The story is all over the place, I can't see it being praised in the future. Could be wrong, I guess.

Are you familiar with Priests other famous works? Black Panther and Quantum & Woody were also incoherent at first as well. The story comes together later like in a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Super. :D

Edit: That was fantastic. The last page put a massive grin on my face. Just a shame we didn't get to see
Mediaeval Superman
!

If you enjoyed that, you should read #1-6, which are largely about establishing Jon (Clark's son) in this new world.

I see a lot of impressions of King's Batman. So I'm gonna toss in my two cents. I'm enjoying it so far, it's solid. Nothing amazing or great, but it's enjoyable.

The stand out Bat-Book, and Rebirth book in general for me has been Detective Comics. Geez, it's just great. If you haven't, pick it up. And if your a fan of Cass, Tim, or Steph, pick it up ASAP.

And lastly, the Night of Monster Men arc has been enjoyable so far. The dialogue, art, everything in general is solid.

Agreed, and I like that Cass is getting her little moments - I want to turn her thumbs up panel into an avatar, hah.

Well said. I agree. Detective Comics has been quite good so far, and I think it's right up there with Superman and Green Arrow as the best Rebirth title going.

Batman Beyond Rebirth

I liked it overall, and will definitely read at least the first arc. Art is nice, great backstory, and decent writing. now here is what I don't like

-still can't get over the batsuit eyes being red. it is a cool suit, but it throws me off.
-the book does a great job of explaining who terry is and giving batman beyond tv fans a bone. The thing is they don't explain what the hell has been happening in the comic book series honestly. For those who only know terry from tv this is post high school

Now to help people out who haven't read the last run.
Tim drake from a different time was batman while terry was being controlled by the bad guys. They fight and Tim frees him. Tim is now stuck in Terry's world/timeline but decides to go off on an adventure or some sort.

Also woah at that ending. the GOAT is about to return

4/5.

Teen Titans:Rebirth

This is how you introduce a team. Give them all their moment in the spotlight. I love the art, and dialog. Garth waking up was priceless. Reminds me of the show, and that is a good thing. Damien is about to clown these fools all day.

easter egg. Starfire's pet from both shows is shown in the apple. kudos.

Between this and Green Arrow Benjamin Percy suddenly became one of the best writers in DC's stable.

Lets See , This week

Teen Titans Rebirth
Damian,
is it really necessary to be such an ass to introduce yourself ? This makes
Batman's
usually introduction to the
Justice League
look like a tropical beach party.

Nice to focus on everyone else to start with though, since this arc is apparently focused on
Damian
, otherwise it'd seem odd he doesn't get any attention this issue.

Batman Beyond Rebirth
I think I see why they skipped the previous run in this summary. In many ways this feels like it picks up after the Cartoon (not the integrated Finale in JLU necessarily but a timeline advancement from where the series ended), That wasn't Damien's Robin suit in the cave for instance, it was picked to resemble the cartoon Tim Drake's. Not a bad start at all, though I'm not sure if the Twist was over telegraphed or out of left field. A little of both I think, what it was , was over signalled but the how is a clever subversion.

Blue Beetle
What the hell is
Teri Magnus aka Justice League 3001 Flash
doing in this comic ?
Otherwise this was a thing, think they may be laying the bickering/banter on a bit too thick honestly, it's kinda distracting when every page is someone bickering with someone else.

Batgirl
Hmmm. I'm not sure how I feel about this. The premise of Martial Artist supervillains doing MMA is weird but sort of works given they are "students". Still not quite used to a Babs this inexperienced / out of practice since I stopped reading around Nu52.

Titans
Things are happening. But not even the story is pretending it's the real story. Such an odd choice stylistically , but I guess it makes sense to pencil in what the "in-universe" Nu52/Rebirth explanation for Wally is from everyone else's perspective but trying to do it as a fakeout cover for Manhattan is so bad that even the writer doesn't seem to care.

Night of the Monster Men #3 (aka Detective Comics, see earlier comments)
Yeah, whoever said the open use of real names in persona is weird is right. Apart from this, yeah, this continues to be solid. It shows a little bit more of the individual title approach but it's still very much one story (the focus here is far more on the Tec Team, than it was on Nightwing in the previous issue). This still continues to be coherent (not a high bar but better than I've come to expect lately) and decent. Though I'm sure that there's more than Strange at work here, he's an accomplished chemist, psychologist and biochemist but he's never been a single handedly create
contagious
Kaju and
sentient vioence inducing mold
type super-chemist before which suggests that there's probably a bigger picture at play here.

.
Apparently
the end of 3001
had two characters stuck on the normal Earth.

I really like what Titans is doing, tbh. It's such a meta twist, characters being
manipulated/warped into covering for Manhattan's actions in-universe
.

edit of not doubleposting: Not gonna lie, I was a little bit iffy on the first two issues of Monster Men, but this week's was some top tier shit.

Teen Titans Rebirth was good but I already know I'm gonna hate Damien. Just the fact he was able to catch the whole team already makes me annoyed with his crap. I hate arrogant ass child characters who can't smell their own shit. And I think I dislike Damien more than most because on top of his personality, he is an ultra competent golden child.

Teen Titans was great, wow, definitely what I was looking for. Young characters sort of bouncing off each other. Art was gorgeous, too; is Meyers on board longterm or just for the Rebirth issue?

Also, Suicide Squad continues to be way better than I expected it to be. It feels just "edgy' enough without crossing the border into eye-rolling.

Meyers is on long term my guy, he's also bouncing around ideas for the story with Percy.

I think you can and should expect this book to soundly put him in his place.

That is the entire point of him 'leading' the team.

I can't believe how much my opinion of Percy has changed with Rebirth. I wrote him off after his lacklustre Green Arrow run during DC You, yet he is delivering in spades now. Teen Titans is just stellar; it's everything I wanted in a TT book.

How's Blue Beetle? I'd love to hear some impressions.

I really think Percy just sat down with somebody and had a really productive constructive criticism session or something, because he's just done a fantastic job of specifically addressing his issues.

BB is pretty good. It's got some weird quirks, though. This issue, nearly every single speech bubble containted some form of snark. It's well written and entertaining snark, mind, but it's omnipresent. Like, to a noticeable degree. Plot is still just getting rolling, I'll have a more thorough impression after the first arc or so. Signs are good, but I'd love it if they got John Rogers on board to cowrite. The original series was better written, I get the sense that Giffen needs a cowriter to restrain some of his... quirks.

Teen Titans Rebirth

I am not as in love with it as some here seem to be, but this was a really good issue.

I am very surprised that Goliath is being kept around. Touches like him really help to solidly distinguish the Robins from each other.

Also, DC really needs to bring back Batman & Robin. It feel super weird to have Robin going around doing his thing without ever interacting with Batman.

So I picked up Teen Titans rebirth, and thought it was a good opening. Only 2 things bothered me.
1 how op will Damien be? The way he captured all of them is ridiculous.
2 what is with all the ads? It felt like there was an ad every other page.

1. Probably not particularly. You'll notice he avoided getting into a straight up fight with any of them and played on psychological manipulation and tech The interesting bit will be that Damien is likely to be incredibly bad at fulfilling the usual "Bat" team role of Strategist / Field Commander since he's got appallingly bad people skills, he makes Bruce, at close to his worst, look like Mr Congeniality. So it's a little hard to see what he's going to do beyond provide resources and an initial plot (especially since Gar and Raven both have prior experience with Tim in that role).
2. Can't help with this, was reading digitally.

Thanks, for the 1st point it was probably the movie version of Damien that made me hostile to this one. You're probably right, he didn't interact with any of them, he just played to their weaknesses.

As for the ads, the comics digitally don't have them?

Other than the house ads at the beginning and end of the issue, digital comics have no other ads.

I remember Tom King said he'd explore the whole
"3 Jokers"
thing in the 9th issue of Batman a long time ago, is that still happening?

Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love #1

Ok this was a solid start, the art was great, dialog was cool, and DC is showing the LBGT some love in this mini series.

The coolest part about this is the mystery of it, kinda gives off crimson peaks vibes.

For all my Mignola fans out there I would definitely recommend this.

4/5 I think deadman can carry his own solo

shade the changing girl #1

Like Doom patrol it took me some time to process what I read but once everything clicked together I liked it.

This book is definitely weirder than doom patrol, so warning to you normal folk out there.

4/5 2/2 so far young animal <3

Raven #1
Hell yea this actually delivered. but warning it does spoil what happened in Detective comics. I love Raven interactions with muggles.

I think this is a good series for anyone curious about Raven daughter of Trigon.

Batman #8 night of the monster men part 4

sorry Echo but I really like this issue. The art was gorgeous, Batman's dialog made sense, and Duke finally got to go out in full costume hnnnnng. The other thing to note is that Batwoman is standing toe to toe with the Bat. She is making sure he knows they are equals.

I forgot who the artist was for this part but man did they do a great job drawing everything in the air. Purely breath taking. Now here is what I didn't like
Batman taking down the monster by himself while doing that monologue or w.e was not something I am used to Batman doing. He doesn't talk that much during a fight.

5/5 glad to see the book pick up the pieces after that lackluster third part.

Nightwing #6 night of the monster men part 5

wasn't that big of a fan of the art, made a couple of the characters look totally different, and think this is the issue where Echo talked about the inconsistencies in nightwings form. Also that face batman made gave me the creeps.

The bigger thing is Strange, like hory shit.
the 4 patients all had problems that Bruce Wayne/Batman had to suffer. Strange did everything just to fuck with Batman.

But damn the stakes have really escalated since the first issue, and Batman really does plan a lot of stuff out. Batman vs Strange next week wooh!

So when does Batman and the Watchmen thread pick back up?

http://io9.gizmodo.com/batman-s-abo...utm_source=io9_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

Are the Rebirth mystery and the Watchmen stuff going to play in these stories at all?

King: It starts in Batman #9 [coming out next week]. It’ll hit there. This is a new continuity, so a lot of stuff is happening in Batman that affects the spine of the universe. It’s been going on, you just haven’t noticed it. For example, they just announced Suicide Squad vs the JLA— that’s coming out of the Amanda Waller stuff that we did in Batman.

It’s a long-term plan, so that spins out of the I Am Suicide arc. And then in Batman #9, you’ll see the first hints of how the Watchmen storyline will play throughout the Batman universe.

The Supergirl time crunch is annoying the shit outta me(like I knew it would). Not sure why they needed her to be a high school student instead of a college student.

Isn't she like 16 tho? That's kind of the issue that arose when they changed her costume to a more risque fit.
