The mentioning of better superhero movies in this thread bums me out, man.

Can we talk about The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer?

That movie exists.

huh.

I never saw it I know everyone likes it though.

Screw RT

AND TMNT 1 is at 40? and TMNT2 in the early 30's?!?? Fuck Rotten Tomatoes, it's straight trash

Oh please. Just because you enjoyed those films as a child doesn't mean that they were actually good. I'm sure a lot of people really enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat film. That doesn't mean it wasn't awful.

It had problems but i still like returns more than MOS. The scene where he stops the airplane is one of my favorite superhero moments in movies ever.

+1

I have not seen it. I am also not trying to dissuade you as I don't even know if I'll like the movie. I just know that going into something having already formed an opinion on it is stupid.

Let's be honest here. Half the people on this board made up their mind about the film as soon as it was announced. We all go in with pre-conceived notions due to word-of-mouth/reviews/etc.

The fact that the film is being trashed is a plus for me. I want to see how bad it's going to be.

Many of us came to this conclusion last night when we found out Space Jam is at 36%
Kinda deserved TBH, best thing about it is the soundtrack.

Yeah I liked those TMNT movies despite their ratings.

Iron Man was the closest Marvel got to the Dark Knight. To bad for DC Baleman is all they have had to hang their hat on, while Marvel continues to lap them.

I enjoy IM3 quite a bit but a few not so insignificant things hold it back for me

- the first 30 minutes drag
- they never explain why Jarvis was glitching
- the bad guys knock out Rhodey and then just leave him on the ground. Wut
- the armors are made of paper mache and Tony never uses a really good one
- no explanation as to why shield isn't involved when the goddamn POTUS is kidnapped

Otherwise a really fun time

I'm up for another "Iron Man 3 is Awesome" Cycle.

I missed the previous cycle, but I love Iron Man 3. I didn't even know Shane Black's work until my mom had me watch Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang when I visited her. Really made appreciate the film mode when it came out.

On topic though, do you think there's any chance the R rated cut could make things better? I was waiting to watch that version anyway.

Edit: the thing with the "paper mache" were pretty self explanatory imo. Tony was stressed and working on his armor non-stop and getting very little sleep. It made perfect sense to me that they were hastily built without any kind of reinforcement our quality control.

I thought that one scene where the Surfer first shows up and gets chased by the Human Torch was actually kind of cool.

Too bad everything else was awful.

It depends what the R rated cut does, I guess.

Many of the complaints are leveled at the mopey, dour heroes, and the bloat of the whole thing.

So if the R cut adds more violence and more scenes....I doubt it'll help. If it's an actual entirely new edit, then maybe some of the pacing problems get resolved? Who knows.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah, everybody has some level of pre-conceived notions, but usually it's not black-and-white "this movie is going to be incredible" or "this movie is going to be a train wreck". The reason I can't put much weight on RT is how often I've enjoyed movies that they have claimed "rotten." That doesn't mean I'm automatically going to go in expecting the OPPOSITE of what RT shows; I merely will not go in expecting it to be a bad movie.

But, if you want to approach it like you are, I will obviously not be able to convince you otherwise.

My favorite review was the HitFix video piece, where Drew McWeeny compares this as "coming out of Batman Begins, and going into Batman & Robin".

Best endorsement ever.

(And I saw B&R back in the theatres in '97. I want to see that same slack-jawed confusion.)

Given everything I've read on this film, there's no reason to assume that it will be other than deeply flawed at best. I don't have to go to the theatre to know that, but I want to go.

Frankly, I have a feeling that the film's going to need all the help it can get.

Nolan has the Infinity Check waiting for him on Monday.

Take the damn check !
What makes you think he wants to run the carnival that is the DCEU?

Ahh hell, we all know he loves the carnival

Can't help but wonder what's going on in Affleck's head right now. He's seeing it getting eviscerated, he genuinely loves Batman, this was his second shot at the genre, and yet he is committed to Justice League, but also knows that people atleast like him in the role.

We'll form up together and stand like a iron chain.

Iron Man 3 was a Shane Black buddy comedy which means it was fucking amazing, sir.

Thank you for acknowledging that which few do. I always thought of Iron Man 3 like RDJr's carte blanche and he decided that he wanted to do another Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

I liked that scene too. Truly enjoyable.

Also, the movie has the amazing Andre Braugher as stern military man. I cannot watch Brooklyn Nine Nine and not think of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Yup

"Honestly I hate working for these guys, they're so weird"

Slays me

Considering that Iron Man's solo comic has been pretty terrible for awhile, it's a miracle the first Iron Man film was good.

He's the most mistreated character in Marvel by far. IM2 and 3 were just playing catchup.
