Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

I'd basically need to do a complete upgrade on my PC to get it up to spec for the Rift too. All in it'd be over $2000. I don't think I can do that. Pretty sure most people are in the same boat.

I am not looking forward to the Canadian NX launch price =/

This dollar drop is killing any kind of feeling I have for buying games.

And lo, the sticker shock of the Rift of Oculus reverberated across the entire continent.

The Northern Lands recoiled in horror as their casualties grew.

Perfect time to start focusing on the backlog.
Ignore everything else until the annual E3 pre-order blitz.
Of course, by the time that rolls around, we might be looking at a 65-cent dollar, $100 games and getting to pre-order those games at $60-70 is portrayed as "a deal".

With the dollar where it's at, I've pretty much stopped buying new games and am focusing on my backlog more than anything. I did cave in yesterday and I bought AC Syndicate, though, at $60. I tried playing Black Flag again but it just isn't that good.

I was lucky enough to get a free Rift since I kickstarted it. My GTX 680 is long in the tooth however, and I'm not willing to buy in to the GTX 900 series considering the age and price of that series at the moment. $500 for a GTX 970 and 50% better performance doesn't seem worth it at all. I'm waiting for Pascal. Hopefully I can find Oculus Rift experiences that run adequately on my hardware.

All impressions I've heard has Vive as the strongest offering anyway so I'd wait for that before deciding to drop money. Regardless $900 is a bit pricey. I'll probably upgrade my PC in a year or two then grab a VR set at that time or a bit later.

Huge thanks to both of you (EDIT - and to Mike). Maybe I'll start selling some other games I don't want on eBay just to get some status/practice before trying to unload the big one.

And sorry, I'm in London ON.

Do you have a post in the BST or are you just PMing the list? With the dollar so shitty I'm going to try buying retro stuff domestically for a while, but I'm not exactly on the hunt this moment. Still, I'd definitely take a look.

Isn't Nintendo aiming for an affordable launch price for the NX? I don't see it succeeding at over $350 USD. I'd hope they learned their lesson after the $250 3DS.

Then again $350 USD is $490 CAD equivalent, so at $450 it'll be more expensive than the PS4/XB1.

I'm sick of Nintendo making affordability a priority. It's a one time purchase, the difference between $300 and $500 is a very temporary annoyance. I'd rather them make something with a bit more beef that doesn't hamstring them in the future.

well its no mario maker bundle but:

https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/subcategory.jsp?categoryId=cat570935

they say refurbished, but i'm pretty sure these are new units they just never sold. i bought a zelda one and it was brand new.

the 3d world bundle is 260 + tax and shipping

also since its from nintendo, you do get their warranty if somethings wrong with it

I never trust refurbs. I never trusted used electronics in general hence my reluctance to buy anything branded "REFURBISHED".

Why a bundle? Just get a Nintendo Canada refurb with nintendo land for $235. Then get Mario maker separately.

Save your time, gas, and sanity and get shipped to your door. My 3dsxl refurb was perfect. (Full warranty so used or not I don't care)

Why this particular bundle? Because it includes Mario Maker AND the special amiibo (it's different than the one sold separately, right?). It looks cool.

The 3D World bundle, is 260$ and, for god knows why, SMM is 70$ here, remember? To what total does it adds up to? 330? Yep. I'm in no hurry to get 3D World back in my hands seriously. Also, they all includes Nintendo Land... which I ALREADY have. My old Wii U was a launch unit and it came with it........ Nintendo Land sells for sh...

Oh and, I always prefered to order online. I never really expected myself to go anywhere outside town but I was mentionning that IN CASE you guys might have spotted something in my area's store that I would have needed to travel to in order to get a Wii U.

Sorry to hear about the fire.

Why not try calling the local games store instead of going there?

Thanks for your sympathy.

Will do before making my final decision.

And yes, I'm actually willing to spend more for that specific bundle...

The future is dark. Christ this dollar. The fucking yen is doing better right now. Everything is ruined and I can't blame Harper anymore.

At this rate, I expect the Vive to be well over $1000 CAD.

your choice. like i said previously, others who have bought them in the thread as well as from my own personal experience, nintendo "refurbished" wii u consoles more often than not tend to be brand new consoles that never sold and were returned back to the company so they repackaged them with a big ol red "refurbished" logo on the box.

Vive is best but do you have an empty 18 wheeler to play it in?

Yeah I don't know what's gonna happen with that, lol. Really glad I have the SE pre-ordered already.

Yeah $27.99 is a "reasonable" price compared to $19,99 USD.

ehh, between that and dealing with Nintendo Limited stuff, it's like between a rock and a hard place.

I pried off a single copy of Awakening in a best buy. I refreshed the product page at midnight for a week lol. Never again.

Bayonetta 2 $5 off on Amazon.ca

Go go go everyone!

Considering that the two disk set has been selling out since Bayonetta's announcement in Smash 4, Wii U owners might want to pick up a copy, new or used. It's likely to become a collectors item someday.

I bought it because it will likely be a collector's item.
I also don't have a WiiU yet, maybe after the NX comes out.

It was $32 weeks ago though.

My copy hasn't even shipped from then :P

You should email them.I've ordered shit before and they didn't ship it and then eventually they told me they couldn't get stock and told me too fucking bad. I was mad and went through several CSR just to get a $5 compensation.

It's set to arrive on Jan 14-20th with Prime shipping. If it hasn't shipped by the 20th I'll contact CSR.

If the console's good, I'm still going to open my wallet and pay out. I just hope that the controller is easy to use if it really does have non-physical buttons.

Plus Nintendo is launching that My Nintendo rewards program, which might help us out.

Best Buy is having a sale on some routers today.

Does anyone have a recommendation? I'm in the market for one, currently using a horrible router-modem combo that Rogers provided and I'm constantly getting disconnects on my consoles. On the worst days even my phone can have trouble getting a good connection in the tiny apartment I'm in right now.

Nighthawk, no question. Rock solid performance, and you get up to 4 networks (2x2.4GHz, 2x5GHz) I have used one for quite some time with my home setup (PS4, WiiU, XB1, 360, PS3, ipads, etc etc etc) no problem.

I haven't looked at routers in ages, but you would presumably want to get one that you can put CFW like Tomato on it (or whatever the modern equivalent is these days) so you can have more customizability.

How much are you spending? The above suggestion of Nighthawk is good, but on a budget the Archer C7 is the champ.

Ah, should have probably mentioned my budget.
I was thinking to cap at $150 but if Nighthawk is definitely worth it then I could probably bump up to it. But if I’m jumping up to $180, would it be worth it to go for Archer AC3200? It seems to be much more expensive but I’m not sure if the heavy discount is because it’s a bad router or if it’s just a good deal. Which one is the Archer C7? I can’t find it on the page.
