With all the trouble you went through they should let you keep it or at the very least give you a free Return label.

The problem is that they issued me a credit for the orginal shipment going missing but will reverse the credit if the package actually does show up. So I pretty much have to return one of them to the store myself if I want my money back in anything resembling a timely manner, especially since I'm not willign to take the chance however remote it'll go missing in the mail a second time

I'm wondering the same thing about Comwave, which I keep seeing advertised, and offers good speeds in my area.

But it says cable internet, so I assume they use Rogers' cable lines? If so, I won't be able to get it.

UPS continually destroys my Amazon.ca packages. The last one came torn opened with the sealed bookset torn open and heavily damaged. UPS did nothing. Amazon just sent it again and again with UPS. All three times with an unacceptable amount of damage. I'm glad they got rid of UPS. Probably did because of incidents like mine. Canada Post seems to be the only ones around here (Halifax) which can deliver a parcel to me undamaged. FedEx leaves high value parcels on my open porch, in the rain. Purolator leaves them outside in the snow.

My Amazon order of Hatsune Miku arrived crushed in the mail. This is the 3rd time an Amazon order has been damaged in shipping in the past 3 months.

So did you get it back? Or get some compensation for it?

After 3 months I finally got the insured coverage payout. It was the biggest pain in the ass ever, thankfully the camera shop and I worked together and blacklisted the serial number or shit would likely still be getting stolen.

Can't spell "complimentary" correctly, pass.

Go with Teksavvy, Lightspeed, or Novus if you can get it. Otherwise, go with Shaw/Telus, get a promo, call and threaten to switch when the promo ends, get promo renewed (or new promo), repeat.

Will be looking for a good smartphone / basic plan (500mb per month should be more than enough) in the near future. Any deals / tips on where I should be looking first? I'm living in Montreal.

Apple, Samsung or Windows... I don't really care as long as I don't get screwed.

Thanks.

It's all about your budget. What's yours?

You might like Fido if you're looking for a plan that's simple and not too expensive. If you stay in the city all of the time, then Wind would be a really good choice price-wise and assuming Montreal has good coverage.

As for a phone, you can't really go wrong in today's market... Even if you choose an older phone you'll still get a great piece of tech. I have a Nexus 5 and am really happy with it. Can't speak too much for current Nexuses, though

I don't really have a budget... just hoping for a good deal / not to get screwed. If I had to give a price... no more than 50$ per month.
Ah, I thought you were talking about getting a phone. There's a good budget carrier like:

Zoomer (zoomerwireless.ca) which has the 500MB for $36. Sometimes they run a promo which double the data to 1GB for the same price. If you're thinking how's their coverage, they are using Rogers network. So, if your place has a good Rogers coverage then this could be a good carrier for you. These are the phones for $36 plan except LG G3 and Samsung S4: http://www.zoomerwireless.ca/phones

But if you have a phone currently, you can go with either Fido or Koodo. I do remember that they have the 1GB BYOD plan for $40.

I'd never heard of them before, but people seem to be impressed.

It looks to be cable internet, though, so I assume that you need to have Rogers' cable hook-ups in your home? They never put the Rogers lines up to our house.

Go to their website and type in your postal code. It will lay out your options clearly. www.start.ca

Both DSL and cable. Speeds depend on address.

What catpurrcat said is correct, and I'll also vouch for them. I've been with them for almost three years now, customer service has been excellent and the only two problems I've had with my Internet during that time came down entirely to Cogeco being a bunch of useless idiots.

As good as everyone else is, I'm tired of unrealiable internet, and companies telling you it's Rogers or Bell's fault and they can't do shit about it. Was Teksavvy's customer for 5 years and switched back to Rogers. Getting consistent and unlimited 150+mbps with Cable TV for $90/mth is an offer I cannot refuse. Plus, you getting direct customer support with next day repairs is unbeatable.

I'm tired of 300GB cap in current day and age, and getting charged $30 or more for unlimited is just silly.

I'm sick of 5mb/s, which I've had for a decade and can't upgrade from.

I have. Thanks.

However, my postal code deals with a large area, and that's what it tells me. It says that it can't vouch for services being available at all addresses.

Down the road, they have access to Rogers Cable and Internet. Here, we don't, because the cable line was never extended. They want three interested people to contact them before they'll put it in.

What does it have to do with Cogeco?

Quebec should have lower prices than Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia due to Videotron's presence. Check out Koodo, Virgin, and Fido (the big three's tier 2 brands).

Check RedFlagDeals for phone deals. I think the LG G4 is what you'll find at the best price.

What does it have to do with Cogeco?

I'm stuck in a Cogeco neighbourhood, so I could get cable with Cogeco or ADSL/VDSL with Bell. I weighed the options and wanted to do cable, so I pay Start to use Cogeco's infrastructure, essentially.

One time there was some construction that messed up the cable line and Cogeco took forever to deal with it, but nothing much can be done about that. The other time was the hassle. My neighbours moved out of their place and cancelled their service with Cogeco. So the Cogeco guy goes up to their house, cuts their cord and then while he's there, notices there's a cord on my house and sees I'm not a Cogeco customer, so he just up and cuts that too. I had to call Start, who had to negotiate with Cogeco about sending one of their technicians out to fix it. As you can imagine I'm pretty low priority for them, and they give me a time the'll send someone to fix it. They don't ask, they just assign me a time. The big problem here is that they said they'd come from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or something to that effect. That's of course ridiculous, but they wouldn't treat me any nicer if I were a Cogeco customer. The only real issue is that I work late so I wouldn't want them to show up first thing in the morning and have me sleep through it, so I call Cogeco just to say, hey, maybe if your guy puts me as a late priority on his shift, it'll work out better for everybody. I call Cogeco and man, if you ever for some reason want someone to treat you very rudely, try calling a cable company when you aren't a customer. The one woman hung up on me out of the blue very early into my call. Again, Cogeco's the one who fucked this up, not me! So the next day comes around and, of course, the technician is there at 9 o'clock sharp. Let's just say I wouldn't be too chummy if I met someone who works for Cogeco.

So yeah, go in with your eyes wide open on this: if you go with the little guys you will still at the end of the day be at the mercy of a major provider. But you will pay a lot less, be treated a lot better by customer service and don't forget, even if you stick with a major ISP, the big boys will still treat you badly, just maybe a little less badly than they would if you bought from a third party. I wouldn't ever go back.

*sigh*
I might have a sudden income coming this month and I want to rebuy a Wii U since my last one perished when my appartment was hit by a fire last May.

I'm interessed in the Super Mario Maker bundle. Nobody seems to have it available. Even the more regular bundles are scarce. WTH.

Amazon prices are insane. 450$+ which I guess come from US->CAD$ conversion.

Even the 3D World bundle is scarce. The only one I seem to find is the MK8 one.

Now, I'm not interessed in getting another bundle because my account (that I will need to unlink) has already MK8, WWHD, etc, etc, etc. already purchased and I don't want to end up with a duplicate game. I'm also kind of interessed in the amiibo in the SMM bundle too to be honest. However, I have a LOT of trouble forking over the Canadian retail price which is 330$.

I'm not interessed in buying used. SMM is over 70$ and the bundle with the game is such a good deal for me.

And I also have to buy a Wii U Pro controller too which goes for ~55$ these days.

Anyway, if you guys have insight, it'll be awesome.

Notes:
* Nearest Walmart is 1h drive from where I live. (1h drive does not include trip back)
* Nearest EBGames is ~2h drive from where I live.
* No Cosco near either (same as above) and I don't have a membership card anyway.
* Best Buy is also a 2h drive.
* Nearest electronic stores is The Source and Dumoulin.
* There is a specialized video game store here in town, however I haven't check their stock at all. I have to physically go there.
* I lost two physical games in the fire: SM3DW and DKC:TF. The rest were retrieved.

Why a bundle? Just get a Nintendo Canada refurb with nintendo land for $235. Then get Mario maker separately.

Save your time, gas, and sanity and get shipped to your door. My 3dsxl refurb was perfect. (Full warranty so used or not I don't care)

Never mind. Was fixed.

I'm so annoyed with myself for missing out on the Zelda Windwaker Bundle. I hope it comes back in stock some day.

Random thing that I had no idea about - Best Buy won't take back opened hard drives. I feel like they used to do it, but I maybe I was wrong. I just wanted to swap the 1GB for a 2GB too. Oh well.

And yeah, my copy of Trails shipped too. Or at least got updated... now I have to return the other copy I get. And the 2GB drive I bought. lol

Yeah, they don't accept refunds on any open computer components, only full systems/laptops.

so like I've never checked out phones before

why is everything so expensive? this shit normal? >_>
I just bought the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser. Not bad at all. Similar specs to the moto x play, but this one has gyro. Only $269. I got it for $239 with some coupons for staples i found online. Can probably still find them easily, one for $10 one for $20.

I can't justify spending so much for phones, its crazy.

Edit: even better, this phone has 3 gb of ram, play has 2. Also has a removable battery.

Though the ASUS is missing some things too like nfc, fast charging and I believe 5ghz WiFi.

Phone is something I convinced myself to splurge on after how annoyed I got with my Nexus 4. It's probably the single thing I spend the most time using (unless I combine my desktop + laptop) so figured I shouldn't settle. Not to mention it's my lifeline when traveling or any emergency situation / unfamiliar situation.

Agreed. Phones are expensive, but think of how often and extensively you'll use it. It's a very worthwhile investment.

Valid point. Obviously I'd love a Nexus 6p, but its hard to justify $750 on a phone, especially as a student.

Never heard of them. Their pricing is comparable to the other resellers like TekSavvy, Lightspeed, Ciktel, etc. I've been with Lightspeed for almost a year now and it has been largely reliable with decent service. The only thing I didn't like was an unannounced rate increase earlier in the year, which coincided with rate increases among the other companies too due to higher wholesale costs.

Yeah this is my rationale as well behind buying phones. The other side of this is that I dont want to spend too much on a laptop, because I would seriously only use it in class and it wouldnt get any use anywhere else.

I was finally able to remove things from my Best Buy cart! No more Paypal ordering while logged out, inputting my RZ code during checkout, then logging in after to register the order to my order history.

Good news guys! The dollar is at 71 cents now! How low it can go? 65 cents by the end of the year?

Good lord, games might shoot over $100 pretax in the not so distant future.

Are we matching Austrilian prices now? I think they always had their games over $100 AUD and our currency is more or less on the same ballpark

Advice: I am budgeting for a wedding and I was thinking of selling my copy of Demon's Crest. I've seen them on eBay for > $100 but I'm reluctant to sell it there as I've never sold stuff there before and therefore have no feedback. Plus, scams. With Kijiji, I'm limited to those in my general area and therefore probably won't get top dollar for it. Is there any other good ways people can suggest?

I should probably fire it up and see if the battery pack is still functioning. It was a year back when I played it for a bit.
