Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

My local EB has resold on preorders before. I have been a "victim" of such a thing before. They just offered to put the money I put down towards something else. They gave it back when I asked rather than putting it towards something else.

If your EB is pocketing your money after overselling a pre-order and you didn't get the game, you were robbed. That is illegal.

This, if you're legitimately encountering that problem you should be going up the food chain on it. That isn't their standard business practice.

Amazon.ca has it btw:

Pre ordered.

I can see when this comes out the demand outstripping supply at first, kinda like the LOZ history one was.

You know what? I think EB is just shitting me on "shipping delays" where in fact they oversold their preorders. How foolish of me for not realizing it sooner

That's it. I'm going in with my receipt and if they don't have the game I'll call them out and get my refund. Fuck this shit I'll just get it on psn

Lately I started buying stuff from this site:
http://www.bookdepository.com/The-Art-of-Fire-Emblem-Awakening-null/9781616559380
Same price + Free shipping + no tax, shipping is quite fast too, I think they ship from their US warehouse. Difficult to edit/cancel order though.

edit: chapters is going to have another 10% visa checkout so you can preorder the book from their site if you want.

Yeah, for buying books, Book Depository is awesome. They have free shipping but no minimums.

Ooo, good thing I held back all those times I wanted to buy it. Well time to put that gift card to use.

Is that already on?

also does anyone know if VISA Checkout charges immediately or if they wait just like normal credit card payments?

I haven't been charged for my VISA Checkout orders afaik

Were we expecting a hardcover? It's just a rerelease of the japanese one, which often have those cardstock covers. Like those Mega Man Complete Works books.

I support this, and you.

Both versions hold up really well. The xbox one was a beast of a game at the time so there was some feezing but it still holds up to be a great game and it plays on the 360.

However I would just get the pc ones, they are really cheap right now at steam and really easy to acquire. Plus if your computern is decent enough you should have no problem playing and running both. I never played Kotor 2 so I am excited to go through that one, namely it is the preferred way to play I hear because the restoration mod puts back in the original ending.

TLDR: DO IT!

depends, kotor 1 pc is a bit finicky

probably need to go into the game menu, disable frame buffer and soft shadow

and install this mod

Sounds good, thanks!

Is there any where we can expect even a small discount on Lego sets? Even 10% would be nice. I just don't want to spend $180+ on the Millennium Falcon.

DEAL (HIGH YMMV)

RFD discovered that Fallout 4 for PS4/XB1 is selling at Costco for $29.97. Needless to say, most stores are now sold out.

I love that this random Costco price drop/error is better than every Boxing Day deal I've seen so far.

Anyone who pre ordered FE: Fates in store at EB should look at this.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/3xx5kp/gamestop_special_edition_preorders_cancelled/

I know this is "Gamestop", but I wouldn't be surprised if this happens here too. It has before many times at EBGames. EB has been doing this shady business practice since 2003 with Wind Waker. I would reserve a SE online at another store, and call EB week, or two before launch to check if they actually have it, and if not get your money, or else it won't be returned even if it's credit/debit.

Checks order. Nope. Still good. Besides I'm sure I was one of the first to get an order through the second it went up.

Yeah, they'll definitely ask you if you want to put the money towards a new game, but I'd never heard of them refusing to refund actual cash money/credit card payments until today (they're not going to give you cash back for orders paid with trade/store credit, though, obviously).

BTW, I think this year's Boxing Day flyer is EB's worst in probably years. Do they have anything that's not pre-owned that is actually different from their competition?

Haha thanks, I was so salty for the past two days.

Anyways I canceled my order and got a PSN card from Best Buy. EB's clerk was quite helpful as I think I'm not the only one who had the same problem. They tried to tell me that they will notify me as soon as they are in stock, but I canceled anyways.

Because I don't think shipment is going to be smooth since Christmas is in two days and boxing week is coming up. They failed to fulfill my order which I reserved and it's the end of that.

Also messaging my cousin overseas to see if she can hook me up to a 64GB card. After this I'm going to full digital for vita.

If only I had a Costco membership, I'd be all over that

Are there any hard drive deals for boxing day/week/month/whatever?
Looking to do the Xbox One "upgrade".

There's a WD 1TB external in the Best Buy flyer for $69.

Bought something similar for my X1 a couple
months ago for the same price.

Jump on anything reasonable cuz of the lousy dollar.

Do you need to plug it into a wall outlet for power, or do you just plug it into the Xbone using a single USB connection?

Just the system USB :) I have mine plugged into the rear, don't even notice it.

And it detects the HDD instantly, and even asks where to install software going forward. Pretty easy.

Cool. Just ordered one since they're on sale right now actually. Now I officially have nothing to buy on Boxing Day. lol

I just noticed -- in Best Buy's flyer -- that The X-Files' Blu-ray sets (S1-S9) will be $14.99 each on Boxing Day. On top of that, they're listed under a banner that says, "Select TV Box Sets Buy 2 Get One Free."

I don't watch Blu-rays much at all, but that's awfully tempting given it's one of my all-time favourites and was mine growing up. But Blu-rays will be succeeded by something else or just digital.

If it's really 90 for the entire series, that's not bad. I think that complete set thing is like 200 bucks?

I'm tempted to buy a $40 Cineplex gift card for myself to get those bonuses that come with it.

I did that, was already spending over $40 to see a movie and I got the coupon book. Nothing stupendous in there, but if you're going to pay for a date and some food, that'll come to about $40 anyway, so why not.

Yeah, it's a decent deal. I've got some free movie coupons, though, for about 4 movies, so I don't know if I will bother or not.
