Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

RE: Boxing Day.

Funny that I'm holding out hope for EB. They always have one or two deals that are a little different from the rest... so hopefully something in their offering will be worth getting.... that said, it's always a zoo on Boxing Day.

Anyone putting together a 4-pack for Rocket League on Steam? Would like to snag two copies this way.

There might be a Steam thread where you could put the call out, too. Really, you should just by a four pack for yourself and make it rain Rocket League codes, the game is that much fun ;)

For anyone who was hoping to see Fallout 4 in the Steam Sale, Green Man Gaming has it for about ~$55.45 CAD after conversion if you use the coupon they have on top of their sale price. It gives you a Steam code.

Dang. I just got my $12 PS4 copy of Tomb Raider yesterday and something compelled me to actually crack it open and play it.

You pre-ordered something off of EB instore and it's late? That's a new one to me. The only thing I can think of is that they accidentally took in more orders than they had copies? But their system must notify them that they've reached their cap.

I think Best Buy lets your pre-order in store but I'm not sure if everything that's pre-orderable on their site is eligible. In their games sections they have physical cards with the name of the game on it that you take up to the counter to pre-order.

That actually wasn't new for me, in fact I thought about it for a while and realized that out of the 5 most recent preorders (including Cold Steel), only 2 actually went through smoothly according to the release date which are Devil Survivor 2 3DS and persona Q

The other three are

1) Arena ultimax, arrived half of a day late, I reserved a Best Buy copy on the release day and got that one instead.

2) Toukiden, arrived 3 days early(!) and I picked it up on the Sunday, the release day should be the proceeding Tuesday. Had to go back though to get my pre-order dlc code.

3) Cold steel. I made another call today and they told me they only got two copies out of the 10 pre-orders and told me I'll get it "hopefully" by tomorrow or Thursday

It's really only my option since BB doesn't actually even stock some of the niche titles particularly vita games, and it fucking sucks that none of my options are viable. I actually have trouble with Amazon that it doesn't want to ship to my post office and my own mail box is too insecure to hold anything expensive.

I just hope I won't be an ass to whoever is ringing me up when I pick my copy of cold steel up, I'm feeling pretty jaded and I'm probably gonna be fuming if they tried to do their sales pitch on me if it arrives next week.

FML I'm probably gonna pick up a 64gb card in the summer and go full digital. Physical vita games for me just went from a rarity to a pain in the ass to deal with in general

I was at BB yesterday to get the 40% off clearance games applied to my online orders, and I managed to successfully get them to apply the discount on my Superbeat Xonic that I bought day one since the extended price protection started on early on November.

Did they also match the 40% off on Xonic in addition to the new clearance price?

Was hoping to see larger discounts on Guitar Hero.

I kind of expect them to come in January. I don't think it will see heavy movement at $90.

I got the game originally for about $36, so they took 40% off of that price.

I'm surprised Best Buy is allowing this. I could easily see them stating that since the item was bought online, tough luck. Will still try, but I expect them to hassle me over it. Won't be able to return/rebuy either as the item is already out of my hands (was a gift).

At first the csr was saying that he probably couldn't do it since I bought it online, but he double checked with someone else and they gave the go ahead without any hesitation.

Getting KOTOR1 to run in widescreen is hit or miss with me. If you don't mind having to potentially run it at 1280x1024 windowed then it's fine.

I may need to buy the Anniversary Edition DS4 for that price, but I don't need it given I have red, white and Black Ops III and only use red. The others haven't been used.

Black Friday got my hopes up for Boxing Day :( Though really I don't think there's anything I still want at the moment outside of a Digital Destiny the Taken King Legendary Edition for less than $40 CAD.

Anyone who pre ordered FE: Fates in store at EB should look at this.

I know this is "Gamestop", but I wouldn't be surprised if this happens here too. It has before many times at EBGames. EB has been doing this shady business practice since 2003 with Wind Waker. I would reserve a SE online at another store, and call EB week, or two before launch to check if they actually have it, and if not get your money, or else it won't be returned even if it's credit/debit.

A bit of that sounds like bullshit. EB will give you your money back on a preorder at any point in time. I have never had an issue with that.

Oh my god that Fire Emblem Awakening art book is getting a NA release via Dark Horse

fuuuuck I need it

Amazon.ca has it btw:

yeah I'm on a Star Wars kick right now and I've always wanted to play the KOTOR games. Now is the time.

Is the PC version good? Or is the Xbox version the good version?

Both versions hold up really well. The xbox one was a beast of a game at the time so there was some feezing but it still holds up to be a great game and it plays on the 360.

However I would just get the pc ones, they are really cheap right now at steam and really easy to acquire. Plus if your computern is decent enough you should have no problem playing and running both. I never played Kotor 2 so I am excited to go through that one, namely it is the preferred way to play I hear because the restoration mod puts back in the original ending.

TLDR: DO IT!

Anyone who's been buying from eb knows this isn't the case. The stores in my city have always been good about this even though eb is a shit company.

lol ok? Why would I lie? That's really good for you buddy hahahahahaha just giving people a heads up. I personally know of 2 EB past employees who can attest that this is a business shady practice of theirs.

Just going on personal experience. I have had no problem getting cash returned on preorders. Ever. I am sure people have had problems with EB, absolutely. Do I believe that some stores will over sell on preorders, yeah, of course but I don't quite understand the arbitrary two weeks before release for not getting your money back. Never heard anything like that.

It's always good to be cautious though.

My local EB has oversold preorders before. I have been a "victim" of such a thing before. They just offered to put the money I put down towards something else. They gave it back when I asked rather than putting it towards something else.

If your EB is pocketing your money after overselling a pre-order and you didn't get the game, you were robbed. That is illegal.
