Fighting Games Weekly | June 8-14 | We played a lot of SG and VF for some reason

I don't own an Xbox, not since I left Japan. lol

USFIV on PS4 seems to have been improved a lot through patches. So it might have become a better alternative than the PS3 version gameplay and maybe even netcode wise for many.
There are still soundbugs though(airfield is my new favorite stage Kappa).

Is society moving backwards and retreading the whole 'acting' [insert ethnic group] thing?

What the fuck? Malibus Most Wanted 2 is going to happen.
Cameos by Chet, Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus.

Blanka haters inherently out themselves as scrubs because Blanka is ass and has always been ass. Be like complaining about point Iron Man in marvel or something.

A character being bad has no relation to them being unenjoyable to play against. Fuerte for example just doesn't work with the expectations according to which characters like Ryu are built. It results in a shitty game of antiair spastic goofball instead of playing Ryu. Blanka can be similar but his bs is easier to shut down and force him to play SF. Then he becomes bad.

Yeah, its a huge hassle cause her ex mallet smash is so fast. I know she has to be negative on something but I can find the timing right, its weird. She goes for her spinaroonie and if I press a button, I get hit. If I wait till near the end, a button doesn't come out. If I wait a little longer, another crouching lk is waiting for me lol.

Some of the Ultra frame advantage adjustments use nonstandard amounts of hitstop instead of adjusting the move's hit/blockstun or recovery. EX Mallet Smash for example freezes Elena for one more frame than it freezes the opponent. So watch your character, not her.

Yooo, KOF13 is fun as fuck, why have I not played this before?

Because most people will tell you it's godawfully hard and dead and whatever else?

Because even many KOF vets prefer 98 and 02 to XIII. They don't hate XIII necessarily, they just don't see it as good (much of that I think is Karate and somewhat Beni)

I'd bet if pot bonuses were equal or nonexistent, a side tourney 02UM would outdraw a side tourney XIII.

I don't think it would unless the game was really good and had a huge name or waifus up the ass.

F2P DOA with good netcode would have done insane numbers.
Isnt that basically what Playstation has?

I think only SF and MK IP can make F2P fighters huge. KI, Tekken and DoA and kinda Soul Calibur tried and did a'ight.

KI will be on PC maybe. We'll see if that platform works better than console for F2P fighters.

Watching the show Aru's Room on nico nico featuring Kazunoko, OGTY, Souji, FAB and MOV. Souji is entering USF4, Persona, Xrd, and BB side tournament.

MOV is entering MKX and USF4. He said he's been playing a lot of USF4 recently so he's hoping he does really well. He's entering MKX because of the money. :lol

OGTY's goals at evo is to make it out of pools for marvel, and get top 8 in KI or MKX as a Japanese in those games.

Expect a lot of these type of questions from people who play Smash exclusively.

I don't know if it's true now, but at one point Tekken Revolution was the most played FG on PSN, and the SC F2P game seems to have done well enough to keep getting updates and to effectively have greenlit SC6 (especially since Harada had confirmed that Tekken 7 will not be at E3). I get the impression that KI has done very well for itself given it's inherit limitations, and Microsoft seems happy since they greenlit season 2 and are about 99% certain to greenlight S3. DoA is missing the good netcode part -- the game online is trash. Even then, they claim to have gotten about 3m downloads and about 1m users purchasing at least one DLC item (which seems like an insane attach rate -- I'm wondering if they're counting people who bought DLC characters, as well). I hope Tecmo ends up rolling out the F2P version of DoA5:LR on PC once they add the netcode, but I don't know how much that is going to matter if the netcode is going to be as bad as the console games (or worse?!).

So I think the experiments have shown that it's very viable, but no one has really brought all of the required parts together. I actually think SF5 could be the game to do is, if Capcom can pull its head out of its ass long enough. I'm almost certain that they're doing a F2P release of SF5 at some point -- there's no way they're selling a full retail game to South America or Asia. I'll probably end up like KI, where there's a retail release that includes all of the characters up to a certain point (for each season, in KIs case) and a digital download that's Free To Play Ryu or something.

Part of me (probably the evil side) wants to see someone like Riot or Valve (but not Blizzard -- their approach to balancing would be awful for FGs) put out a F2P fighting game and just blow Capcom out of the water for good. I don't ever see that happening though (although it feels like Riot has a lot of FGC people on staff...).

What Aris said about Tekken in the last Excellent Adventures episode is true. Its not about the characters, frame data etc etc. but learning the game itself. Forcing yourself to learn all that information is silly and doesn't really help if you don't know how to play the game fundamentally. The game has enough generic things throughout the cast that you can utilize the cast mostly the same way you would other characters.

Yo I thought I saw 3rd strike parries on Ryu and I didn't hear him talk about that. Anyone else notice those?

BTW his recovery looks great so this guy will be legit.

Not gonna lie, when Sakurai talked about "Three great fighting games are being represented" I didn't notice that Akira was in there at first and was like "Damn, the shade at VF"

woops

Gat Damn. Those costumes. That Roy. That Ryu moveset.

Man, if we ever do get that hypothetical fighting game with characters from every series, I'm thinking Sakurai could handle it. I was that impressed.

Knowing how much of himself he dedicates to game making I'm pretty sure that would literally kill him

HQ bbq was legit af. Out of all the Toronto mofos,(that's like 50% of this thread) only Tik-tok showed up. Bad form Enzo/Blackule/Oneida

FUCK ELENA! JUST FUCK HER! LIKE WHAT THE FUCK MAN?! SHIT IS SO AHHHHHHHHHHH

...but Rolento tho.

I'm pretty sure Rolento is a hard MU for Elena and not the other way round.

Meanwhile, nobody is talking about how the GC controller is not good for tradtional fighting games. Smash players are going to struggle with Ryu unless they switch to a different pad (Wii U controller, GamePad, etc) or a stick.

Edit: Also, both Smash Bros, and Street Fighter are trending on twitter. Both companies must be happy.

I thought a lot of people used GC pad for Soul Calibur back in the day?
