The Shadowrun games are both on sale. You can pick up both Returns and Dragonfall for a total of $5.

I have Shadowrun Returns and have barely played it (yet another game that gets pushed aside from buying too much). I've heard that Dragonfall is an overall better game. Is it the best of the two? And do you need to have played Returns to play it?

Dragonfall is universally considered the much better of the two games and, no, you don't need Returns to play it on ios.

What? Why no more Spiderweb RPGS and why are they getting pulled?
No more for iPad, they'll still be on PC
After several years of good time, we at Spiderweb have come to the sad conclusion that we can no longer develop new games for the iPad. The iPad titles currently on iTunes will still be available as long as we are able to support them. As soon as Apple makes changes that makes it impossible to support them, they will be removed.

There are a few reasons for this decision.

1. Competition on the App Store has risen to a frenzied level. As a result, sales for our games has dropped massively and the cost of advertising them has shot through the roof.

2. Changes in iOS 8.3 completely broke the engine we have been using for the last several years. To continue development would requiring licensing and learning a whole new engine, and the low potential earnings just doesn't make it worthwhile.

3. Honestly, the complexity of every single thing we do has shot up in the last few years. My brain no longer has the time and energy to deal with Apple forcing me to relearn how to program every few years. This is, of course, my failing.

We know a lot of fans will be disappointed in this decision. Believe me, we're really unhappy about it. And this may not be permanent. In a few years, we can look at the marketplace and the technical requirements and rethink things. For now, though, this is the only decision that makes sense, and we apologize to the fans we've disappointed.

Good to know I'm not alone. Exactly the same, grabbed Shadowrun Returns ages ago and have never even started it... still, might bite...

^ Cute game with a funny premise, and a good setup for some possible clever puzzles with a bit of variety.

But... an energy system... urk. :/

I realize this is just the way the market is going, but it's still a bummer.

There's actually an option to remove energy for a price, for those who don't want it :)

Luke Muscat, the creator of this game, did a talk about it at GDC this year. You can watch it for free too! There's a specific point about Energy systems in there when they did split tests for it during soft launch. Highly recommended viewing :)

How is KotOR on an iPhone 5? I can hardly imagine playing a complex 3D RPG on my phone. However, 2.99 are tempting...

I watched this again when you announced the game. Good talk.

Reinforces the counter intuitive finding around energy systems seen both in this game and other tests I've seen where their presence makes people play more often, more overall, and go through more of the game content over time.

rabbit-n-frog.jpg

My brother just released his new game on iOS (and Android), Rabbit-n-Frog, for free. It's an arcade style, kind of hardcore autoscrolling jumper, where you have to control two characters at the same time - though the controls are pretty simple, tapping on one side of the screen makes the frog jump and on the other side of the screen for your rabbit to jump. Frog has to collect flies. Rabbit collects carrots. It has three difficulty levels, a mission mode, a tutorial and of course leaderboards.

Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jslgames.RabbitnFrog&hl=en

KOTOR is absolutely a classic and easily either the best or one of the top 2-3 star wars games ever.

How it plays on ios is something i would be interested in hearing some impressions on myself.

It plays very well, especially if you've got an iPad (and I imagine an iPhone 6/6+). Definitely a steal while it's on sale for $2.99.

I briefly tried it this AM on a 5s with a Powershell. The blue on black UI is can be hard to read and things are pretty small but I think it's pretty doable. I'll mainly be playing on the iPad with the phone just being for occasional use via cloudsave.

Has the more "hardcore" side of the mobile gaming dried up this year compared to previous years? Maybe it's because I've been paying more attention to PS4 as of late, but there's really not a whole lot that has jumped out at me this year. I'm spending and playing next to nothing. On a specific front, what once felt like a boom period for board games on mobile has slowed to a trickle.

I guess it's still early, but feels a bit like a trend as of late. Maybe it's a product of the market maturing and touch genres being more...established? Less of a "wild west" situation now than previously. Curious what other people think.

Probably wont have the next thread up to Saturday or Sunday. Apologies for not participating much this month. Expect a bunch of new games in the May OP

Any thread title recommendations for May?

Watch this space? Game and Watch?

No idea if Watch stuff is being pulled in here.

Also, May.

May the Watch be with you

I like this one -- combining all the Star Wars celebrations with...well, the watch.

Honestly never, ever see myself getting an Apple Watch unless someone gave it to me. And then I'd probably sell it.

Gaming on it? Yikes. Now having gotten used to an iPad Mini, I almost never play games on my phone because it just seems so puny. And then take it and shrink it even more? Nope. I know there's a limit to what you can really do with a game on the watch. But I don't even want to think of playing simple games on that tiny screen.

Icewind Dale or BG2?

I own both, I never got far into either and I am on holiday next week with little internet so I want something to get my teeth into.

ICW appeals to me as you can make your own party and I like the setting.

BG2 appeals to me as you have more re-playability in the arena mode and it's the best story.

Thoughts?

Hmmmm....personally I would pick IWD but I played both to death back in the days (they are both great games, you can't go wrong with either).
IWD is simpler, more combat oriented, but much more focused (I like the simpler plot more). Setting is fantastic.
BG2 has a more traditional uber epic scope, much more dialogues and tons of subquests (it's unlikely you will complete it in one week, if you don't play it 8 hours per day).

Depends on what you are looking for....I see IWD like a very cool D&D module, BG2 as a (very demanding) complete campaign.

If you can play with a friend (local network, should work without Internet access) IWD is unbeatable.

Now that iOS 8.3 has restricted iFunbox/iTools access to the App data sandbox, is there any way to backup non-iCloud save files without jailbreak?

Cool, think I will go with IWD. Thanks.

Going to be hard not to play Hearthstone for a week...

So I've been in the mood for Star Wars games and wish there were better choices on iOS (aside from KOTOR, of course).

Has anyone played the full Star Wars Rebels game?

I honestly know nothing about the show and am much more of a classic Star Wars fan. Does the game give any nods to the SW films?

I know it wasn't great but I miss Star Wars Trench Run for IOS. It really was, IMO, the only mobile game that captured at least some of the spirit of the films. (Oh and I have played Lego Star Wars on consoles). Sadly, that isn't even an option to download via purchase history and I don't have it backed up.

Anyway, would appreciate any impressions on the full Rebels game.

Sigh.
My search for another great cinematic platformer/adventure on iOS has proven fruitless.
Completed once again Limbo, got all helix in Stealth Inc.
Tried countless other games but nothing scratched the itch properly.
So I dusted off my old 360 and played Max and the curse of brotherhood, Deadlight and Mark of the ninja.
Some of them should be on iPad.
And why in the world Shadow Complex is not on iOS is beyond me :(
(If I completed Aquaria on iPad I can play anything).

iOS needs more 2.5D cinematic games.

Mark of the Ninja couldnt work. Controls are too complex for touch screen IMO. Deadlight would be cool

We're getting This War of Mine possibly this month. Not exactly what you're looking for, but if you want something with stealth, tension, a mature gripping atmosphere, etc. it's amazing. It's going to be on my GOTY list

Yeah Mark of the Ninja has way too many buttons on 360 too, but pacing helps...I wouldn't mind it in iPad (I know it won't ever happen...but when you complete Aquaria where you need to fast switch 3-4 buttons to beat some bosses, you feel you can play anything on touch). It's a great game anyway.
Deadlight and Mark and TCOB would be totally fine on iPad, and personally I would love them there too (as Shadow Comlpex).
Too bad EA removed the first Mark and the magic marker from the AppStore.

Can't wait for This War of mine too, even if different.
I hope it will be on the AppStore soon, they have Spacecom coming too, even sooner; looks interesting.

Any info about price for this war of mine?
How's the replayability?
There's a good amount of replayability. Hopefully the iPad version will include all the content from the PC updates, stuff like another shelter, new locations, a scenario and character editor.

Oh, you lucky Android owners got TinyKeep. Dev's porting to IOS too, so I'm not too disappointed
Game is excellent. Highly recommended if you want a top-notch 3D dungeon crawler with physics and smart AI

Yeah, I mentioned this earlier in the thread. Got it for my Shield Tablet. Fun little 3D rogue-like. I was really shocked when it came out for Android. Was doing pretty well on the charts so hope it made money. Nice to know iOS will get some love.

Funny how the iOS thread can't be viewed on my iPad 2.

Page 1 (100posts per page) just crashes using Safari, but it works nicely on my shiney new Air.

I haven't played all of it, but I've heard it's a pretty fun action platformer.

The show itself has a ton of nods to the original films (even had Lando on for an episode, and actually voiced by Billy Dee Williams!) so I bet there's some in the game.

I actually really recommend the show, it starts out a little kiddy but once you're halfway it really is classic Star Wars.

I was feeling star was a few weeks ago and watched the whole 1st season over the course of a few days. Only 13 episodes each 20 minutes so it only takes a handful of hours to watch it all.

Plus, season 2 looks really dark. Looking forward to it

Also, glad you all liked the thread name haha

Yeah, someday maybe I'll have to sit down and watch some of them.

Bought the full game unlock anyway and am enjoying it so far.

If Mark of the Ninja came to iOS I would by a new iDevice every day just so I could download MotN on it and eat it for breakfast

Funny that you mention that. I just got done playing the first chapter of Mark of the Ninja.

My crappy old PC, which literally had not a component left in it from when I got it like 15 years ago and hadn't been upgraded since I bought a new motherboard/processor for it 10 years ago, finally died a few days ago.
My wife took me by surprise and said why don't you get a new one. So, I'm not a PC gamer. Consoles and mobile. Keyboards and mice never sat well with me for gaming.

But I ended up getting a half decent, open box tower that seems to handle almost everything I've thrown at it. Probably wouldn't handle the newest graphically intense games, but I don't need them. Anyway, my teenage son is a PC gamer so I downloaded some of his Steam games (my new PC can actually run games much better than his laptop so he isn't happy. He plays Counterstrike and I can run it at 100 FPS). Plugged in an Xbox 360 controller and got my game on with MoTN.

Tried streaming to my Shield Tablet to play on my TV but couldn't quite get the controller to work with it. Nvidia, of course, wants you to have a Nvidia graphics card for it's built in streaming and this is just an AMD Radeon.

Mark of the Ninja is awesome though. And I will play some things here and there on PC, but not likely to the extent of More_Badass or others (you?).

Sorry for the long winded off topic story, but it would be a dream to take Mark of the Ninja on the go.

NOOOOO. Not my Spiderweb games. What the hell man? Crap crap crap. Those were so excellent on iPad. I'm just saying, I know it's a husband and wife team, and I love them for holding down the cRPG fort, but maybe if iOS updates are irrevocably breaking your decade old engine...maybe it's time to update. Besides, the same character portraits could use a refresh.

Also, I blind bought Ys Chronicles. It's pretty impossible to play. The combat doesn't work well with touch controls. Bump combat really needs precise control and this ain't it. It's too bad, because that was a fairly expensive blind buy. I would recommend others skip it on iPad and get it on PC instead.
