on totally unrelated note, I started playing pacman championship, only way it is supposed to be played with kb and I don't find controls responsive enough, is it my kb (I kinda regret I bought this one for other reasons already) or is it a game?

What are you trying to say here?
That you think your keyboard sucks for Pacman CE and want confirmation?

I'm tempted to chalk it up to another one of those "works just fine for me with a controller." type situations, but I've never honestly tried a keyboard on it after many hours playing on PS3 and x360 (as well as the fact that all arcade pacman games were joystick based).

Not really HB actually brought more people into the audience with it's ridiculous premise and is overall pretty tame so I don't know how it hurt perception at all unless they hate ridiculousness. Sakura Spirit is just sexual fluff with no greater goal to be more than that what you see is what you get and most of the enjoyment you get from the game can probably be plopped into CG batch collection. I don't mind the T&A games existing but I'd prefer to get more of titles that stand on other merits while building a wider audience on Steam.

Also I usually discounted Derrick's opinions besides cursory information for a time about a game since I don't think I've ever seen him post something I agreed with. I mostly just scrolled over his posts after a while till he was banned. "pigeon banging game" there is enough to make me discount his opinion there since it's obvious zero research went into anything in that statement.

I don't know -- being new to the visual novel scene, I can't understand the appeal of Hateful BF. To people who don't think it looks funny (yo!) or ridiculous enough to interest them, it gets written off as the type of thing that Derrick referred to. People, in the US at least, tend to stereotype in broad sweeping ignorant generalizations. For example, if you look at the example of anime, and what a lot of people perceive that to be about who have never taken the time to sit down and watch one of the more fantastic story-focused series... you take that sort of perception and look at Sakura Spirit and it gets lumped into "oh, that's some sort of visual novel about anime fox girls... whatever". You apply the same thing to Hateful? You get a reaction more along the lines of "WTF?! Are you kidding me? An anime type game about dating pigeons? And people pay money for this? What.The.Fuck.Indeed."

The game has been sitting in my library for awhile now. I've played some of the other VNs I've acquired over the last year (such as the aforementioned Sakura Spirit) but I cannot, for the life of me, bring myself to care about Hateful enough to play it. Everything I've seen about it looks like it'd annoy me instead of making me laugh... so I asked others in here who have acquired it since release as well "why? what's good about it? why did you get it, what am I missing?" And 100% of the responses come back saying it's amusing/funny to them. This only further deepens my disinterest in playing it. :\

So.....Risk of Rain. Why am I falling through the world and dying when I move 2 inches?

Are you actually dying or continuously falling and re spawning? That happens to me sometimes at well. Usually I just quit the game and start it up again. It fixes it, but it's not a permanent solution. Seems to be somewhat common.

JaseC, since you admitted to never playing the games you buy, do you keep up the rig necessary to run them?

I currently have a 2600K overclocked to 4.6GHz, 8GB DDR3-1600 and 2x 2GB 670s. The 2GB VRAM ceiling is becoming more of a problem, so in the near future I'll be replacing them with 970s. My 2600K still has enough grunt to last me until Skylake, I think.

Isn't PC parts in Australia really badly priced though?

Valve needs to make badges for buying 200 games in a day.

I think they more need to make 3K and 4K badges already. That's hard to believe, still these are not available, otoh they shot themselves in the foot with that gaming god badge, what's above the god? (><)

My posts tend to go overlooked so it shouldn't surprise me, but I have made a point to try and explain things a bit differently. My last post was a subtle way of me trying to explain what it does without spoiling it. But, sadly, people have a hard time getting past the notions of the inital looks and playful, stereotypical VN script it starts off with. And that makes it very difficult to be sutble and still get the message across.

I once said that Hatoful Boyfriend shouldn't be spoiled before people jump into it, because the surprise is part of what makes it special. But I always see people selling it short, and i'm becoming increasingly aware that I just can't tell people to "Wait for it", because people don't seem to have the patience for it. Chalk it up to me being frustrated with people who dropped a show I was fansubbing last season because it didn't have mind-blowing plot in the first 5 episodes. The show was 3 minutes long per episode. They dropped it and failed to see the good stuff that actually came together within a few weeks, and especially missed out on the ending. People need to put themselves aside once in a while and really give something a chance now and then.

I compare Hatoful Boyfriend to Evangelion and MGS2 frequently because it goes for the ultimate bait-and-switch. What starts off as a goofy game about getting with pigeons eventually becomes a massive deconstruction of the VN genre. Even before the legendary BBL mode, which you unlock by getting a handful of paths completed in the normal game, there are several paths which totally break the illusion and let you in on the fact that something else much larger is afoot.

That being said, it's still pretty "anime" even once the other foot has dropped. So you'd still need a tad bit of tolerance for some of the tropes that will come back. They just won't be related to sexing things. I don't know if I can really convince you, frosty, but I wish I could at least help you understand why people do like it.

Initially, yeah, but after a while they come down to reasonable levels. The bigger issue is that retailers here never run any deals that are comparable to the likes of what Newegg, Amazon, etc. occasionally offer.

There's been a 3k badge for a number of months now. Still no 4k badge, though.

Waiting for skylake as well. Though cannonlake looks tempting. I mostly just want PCIe 4.0 and DDR4.

Def going to keep an eye on DDR4 prices and wait for that valley and stock up.
