When's the HBO press release coming? Are they seriously still not at the point where all the deals have been signed? Aren't they supposed to be shooting soon?

Plot sounds interesting.
Hopefully multiple directors won't ruin the cohesive effect a single director had on the first S.

Ruin is a harsh word. Using Game of Thrones or Penny Dreadful as examples of multiple directors doing pairs of epsidoes in 10 and 8 episode series, respectively, there will be visual differences. Tighter shots on actors, camera movement choices, that kind of thing. Different directors will choose to present the material in the way they think it's best suited.

Of course it won't. Even if they start shooting right now, it won't be ready for Feb. But if they don't start shooting soon, it might not be ready for 2015 at all!

Yup. I think True Detectives success surpassed what HBO or anyone was expecting. They might start a significant marketing campaign for season two and let it be released end of 2015.

From what I remember Season 1 took 8 months to shoot. Even if they start shooting season 2 tomorrow, and say it magically took half the time to shoot i.e 4 months, I still don't see it being released by at least fall 2015.

Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn...

What a huge step down in actor quality... Loved the first season, but hard to get excited by that actor combo for season 2

I kinda feel the same way but I'm glad we are one step closer to season 2.

I need more True Detective

If it was Fassbender/Mortensen/Elba or other GAF favorites folks would've complained.

I'm hoping for some Latino actors being cast. The Bridge has raised my standards on the treatment of minorities in a show.

we'll get a latino informant whose taking care of his sick abuelita while struggling to get out of the gang life only to be dragged back in time and time again.

I could have sworn that I read somewhere that they wanted to put out extended cuts of a few episodes. But when I looked at the Blu Ray on Amazon it said 460 minutes. Can anyone enlighten me if that ever happened?

All I remember was Fukunaga saying that original cuts of some episodes were near 90 minutes, but they were edited down-- I don't think they were ever promised to be edited back in for the home release. The blu-ray just has two deleted scenes totaling 10 minutes

I would really have liked to see the Original, but I guess it is what it is. Once again blinded by wishful thinking ...

So I just finished watching this recently. So good. There was just so much going on, so many levels and themes and meanings. It was properly good writing. And great work behind the camera and really great acting from Harrelson and McConoughy.

I see some people were disappointed that the greater mysteries/conspiracies weren't really revealed, but it makes sense really. And also there was so much more to the show than just solving the mystery. It ultimately was able to explore its themes more deeply by ending the way it did. It's been interesting finishing the show and going online and reading some analysis. Some of it very good, some of it really shallow and dumb - from sites I've always suspected of being a bit shit.

I wonder if the second season will pick up any of these plot threads or return to the mythos of the evil behind the murders. It probably will as the whole hidden devil worship in society thing is continuing, apparently.

no clue. show's main storyline was about these two cops after this maniac, and at the end
they get the maniac
. Didn't even know there were people upset at it

my main complaint with it was that solving the mystery wasn't all that interesting. They just kinda go "Oh."

That said, the show was largely character focused, which leads into the other complaint of Rust having a major character swerve with his near death experience. I didn't mind it so much, but a lot of people didn't buy his change and felt it undercut a lot of the shows themes.

This, basically.

That shit was so completely out of left field it wasn't even funny anymore. It explicitely went against like 10 things he said in prior episodes.

For a character that always preaches about deluding yourself to get up and delude himself real hard was just mind boggling writing to me.
