I have to agree with this. I think he's a great character, but terrible at FG. I think it boils down to the stage, honestly. Flat stages are not Luigi's friend. He has a terrible time approaching characters at midrange. He can wreck house on Battlefield, as usual, though. Luigi is great to platform camp and then go for aerials. This doesn't work on Final Destination, of course. He can just get rushed and killed. He's go great mobility on other stages, though.

This is absolutely true. With his ultra-fast, near-lagless aerials, he really shines on stages that are constantly changing, like Rainbow Road and 3D Land. While other characters have to focus on getting to solid ground before attacking lest they accidentally miss the platform and kill themselves, Luigi can throw out several quick aerials and still land safely. His floatiness really helps him out on stages like that.

Sure, man. Pacman is all about the spacing game. The hydrant is your friend. You can use it to protect yourself from falling into an incoming usmash or aerial followup. You can also use it to protect the ledge from an oncoming opponent. Or just throw it in the middle of the stage. The key here is, well, the key. The hydrant gives you time to charge your key, which you pretty much always want. It's a great mindgame too, as your opponent sometimes forgets you have it, and they're constantly on edge.

Be careful with the hydrant, as the opponent can use it against you by attacking it. A good strategy is to use it when your sure the opponent isn't going to be able to use it against you. Placing a hydrant to edgeguard and then knocking it towards the opponent ensures the opponent has to either dodge or jump again to avoid it. This is a great time to follow up with the key. The possibilities are endless with this simple combination. Basically, hydrant + key are your go-to kill moves.

As far as smashes go, Pacman is no slouch but definitely isn't the strongest. Hydrant dashing is a good technique to use. Pacmans downsmash is great and covers a wide area. With a hydrant in the middle of the stage you can charge your dsmash while you slide towards an opponent using the water from the hydrant. This is a great technique for when your opponent is stalling or rolling away, as it you can release it when they put their guard back down and it's sometimes quite unexpected. Usmash isn't too good, but fine for defense, I suppose. Fsmash is your basic forward smash. It's got some more range than your regular characters, but in most situations dsmash is better. I believe fsmash is a bit stronger, though.

Apart from, that, general tipes:
- Always space your opponent out, if you can.
- Charge the key whenever you can
- Don't be afraid to use regular bonus fruit to ward your opponent away
- Pac's jab is great for wacking your opponent away
- Pacman has a pretty good air game with fair, bair and nair. You can usually get an fair in after a dthrow, a jab or a dash attack, sometimes even followed up with an nair.
- Bair is a kill move if you can hit with it. It's got some good range, too.
- Pac-man's dash attack is great, and has little lag. Great way to approach without a lot of risk.
- Side B has super armor after a few frames. Super useful for getting back on the stage and as a mix up. Can KO at high percents, too. You can also Side-B into your hydrant for even more damage.
- Dair isn't super useful, but is pretty good if your opponent is trying tilts and you short hop into a dair above them.
- Pacman's tilts aren't too bad, but his jab is where it's at. His dtilt is the best, and great for quick pokes.
- Finally, his up-b is a decent recovery, but you got to be careful with it. Best to go with side-b to recover, followed by up-b, as side-b doesn't put you into helpless. Up-b is also a great "trap" tool. If you place a springboard in the middle of the stage your opponent is forced to either jump over it or jump on it, which you can follow-up in a number of ways.

All around, great character. Super fun to practice with.

this sounds like exactly my kind of character. Thank you for taking the time to post this.

It's nuts how, even with probably half a second of lag, I managed to hold my own against a pretty damn good ROB as Lucina. Even managed to kill him a acouple of times.

And Lucina > Marth so hard it's not even funny.

Maybe haha. It isn't difficult to win as Rosalina in For Glory though. People have no idea how Luma works. I basically just stand there and let Luma kick the shit out of everyone lol :p

I hate to admit it but It's fun screwing around with her occasionally in FG. Luma is such a crazy annoying for many people and it take no time for it to come back. Such balance lol.

Was playing a Ganondorf and just about pulled off the Mac nair to death. Either I mistimed it at the last minute or it didn't work on Ganondorf, but it was damn close to the bottom of the stage before he was out of it.
This shit has the potential to be so hype.

I want to see Marth cut in the next smash for Lucina just to see what it would bring in this thread. While were at it cut pit and leave dark pit there.

I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I really love the way he feels this time around. The way his cyclone and his dash attack trap people and then send them flying with the final hit is a welcome improvement. His forward smash is devastating as ever. His biggest nerf seems to be hi vertical recovery: his up B seems to get a lot less vertical distance than it used to, and I'm constantly dying by activating it too late and falling short of the ledge.

However - and this is a big "however" - he seems pretty bad in For Glory. He's the character I'm most skilled with, and yet I do the worst with him in FG. I think he's just too slow and floaty for that style of play. And unlike other slow characters like Bowser, Luigi doesn't have any moves that can reliably kill at low percents except for his up-B, which is hard to hit on a good human player. My Luigi's been getting wrecked by Falcons, Sheiks, Sonics, and Little Macs. Even if the players are on an equal skill plain with me, those characters are just too fast, and Luigi doesn't really have anything else to compensate.

Also, it's pretty ridiculous how easy it is to gimp his recovery. I've had Bowsers jump out in front of my Green Missile, not attack me at all, and just take the hit. That forces me to Green Missile again to get horizontally close enough to the stage - but by that point, I've fallen so far down that my Super Jump Punch can't bring me back to the ledge. In a game where Dedede's up-B can take him from being in the bubble on the bottom of the screen all the way up to the ledge, Luigi can barely make it halfway up from the bottom of the screen. This also makes chasing people offstage a risky proposition. Last night, I chased a Robin at about 150% offstage and hit him with a forward air. He survives and makes it back to the stage with no problem, while in the time it takes me to hit him and Green Missile back, I've fallen too far down and can't make it up to the ledge.

tl;dr he's great against CPUs and in FFA - the Cyclone is a great tool for clearing out multiple opponents - but the combination of slow air speed, no low-percent kills except for one hard-to-hit move, and awful recovery make him terrible in For Glory. I still love playing as him, though.

Interesting. I may still give him a try later on.

Greninja's recovery and the Circle Pad simply do not work.
Man, this has to be my biggest gripe so far. Greninja is the main newcomer I use and I Shadow Sneak to my death or simply aim Hyrdo Pumo poorly so much. Now the we know for sure that we're getting the Wii U version next month, I might focus on other characters until then. I thought it was just me at first, but after a few days I still can't do Up B consistently.

The funny part is that people on the Smashboards have been discovering all these grab release combo's and other advanced techniques. Meanwhile, all it takes to destroy FG is neutral B and a lot of smash attacks.

I would love to play some teams. 0731-4970-3925
Just noticed this, I'll add you though and drop a message here if I have anyone else online to fill up the spots. I really want to play more teams in this game; it's pretty fun. Team combos and the high awareness required for 2v2's makes this game far more enjoyable for me than the overly defensive 1v1's.

I find I have to concentrate when using his up b.

When did we get a Wii U release date?

GAF should host a tournament so I can claim the crown. :)
I've been thinking of trying to put something together, as I have two weeks off from work Oct.18-30, so it would be somewhat easy for me to keep track of everything. I don't know how many people should be allowed to partake though, as I'd want it to be able to be finished within those 2 weeks.

Any thoughts from people? What would you want to see in a GAF tournament? I'm thinking 2 Stock, 8 minutes, Customs On. That's just off the top of my head, though.

When did we get a Wii U release date?
This morning. Nov. 21 for NA.

Quick question. This is my first Smash game and I'm getting my butt kicked but also having fun. My For Glory record is awful. I'm like 13-55.

Who is a better main for beginners.. Greninja or Lucario? I like both and would like to pick one character to get good with. In having a really difficult time with ZZS.

I like grenjnja better. He's faster and has good reach. But shadow sneak and substitute leave him vulnerable if missed.

Anybody from Europe want to do 1v1 For Glory? I need more practice with other characters but don't want to ruin my for glory win record.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah, Greninjas tongue scarf nonsense kinda freaks me out but he looks like fun.

Any tips for pulling off Smash attacks more consistently? Do you have to like hold A down everytime or can you just do a quick less powerful Smash? Sorry if I sound stupid.

I've played online again after a few days and I've discovered that I can't stand lag even if it doesn't seem horrible but I just get frustrated and can't enjoy playing it. I hope I had more tolerance so I could improve and play other people but I simply can't. :(

You don't sound stupid at all! It's all situational, of course, but you usually don't want to charge a smash attack against more competitive folks. At least in my experience, it'll get you punished more often than not. However, if you catch them in a state where they won't be able to move for a second (falling after an Up-B or landing lag) it can be beneficial to charge for a moment.

Best advice I can be is to experiment constantly. Just try and bunch of different stuff, even if it ends up killing you. Eventually, you'll find something that works and can work towards improving it.

Greninja's recovery and the Circle Pad simply do not work.

This very thing is almost selling me on a Wii U. So many Side-Bs even when I'm conscious about it and I'm definitely maining him. His down smash would also be much more practical to do after a dash with a C-stick.

Anyway, anyone up for some games?

I appreciate it, actually! Yeah, I get reckless, it's really something I need to work on.
Do you play melee or project m? I find myself playing too aggressively as well because of how I play falcon in project m. Hard to try to switch to a defensive style in this game.
