I think just holding the stick charges now in the Wii U game.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right. Forgot about that.
Grab button, which is technically more of a "context sensitive button" these days but whatever.
It's kinda always been context sensitive. In 64 you can do aerials with R. Same with Z in Melee, and I know there it'll also jab if you're crouching. Not sure about Brawl, but I know at least in 4 I was doing tilts and jabs at times when pressing grab. I think in some respect grab has always been considered to be Shield+A, even if it's coded a little differently.

In the end, I think Palutena's the weakest new addition...well, some might argue Dark Pit and Lucina, but they're easy-to-do clones, I'm considering how much effort is put into something and what we get out of it, and for a character with 12 unique moves, Palutena feels like a waste.

Now, to be fair, she IS in the title of the series in Japan, but damn, I just don't feel her...her default move set is just lame, and I have no clue what custom set to use.

I hope in Smash "5" Sakurai buckles down and makes her more focused with a set-moveset.

Anybody care for some 1 vs 1? I haven't played anyone from GAF yet and consider myself intermediate player. I haven't locked in a main yet so I'm gonna try a wide variety of characters. 0817 4066 2889

Anyone up for a game in eu? My friend code is 3840 5451 2453

Think I've got a solid Yoshi, Ludwig, Villager and Captain Falcon now!

General character impressions after 300 for glory games:

Yoshi: I've mained yoshi since the 64 days and and this is definitely yoshi's strongest incarnation. Mobile, strong air game, decent ground game, nice combos and an above average recovery! However, his poor grab is still going to hurt him in the long run. I think he's countered pretty hard by a few characters (little mac, captain falcon, dedede) and that will stop him being S tier. I prefer it this way though, because I don't like other people playing the same characters as me.

Ludwig: I view this character as a homage to koopa clown car rather than bowser jr and it is excellent :). He has a very nice zoning/rushdown game and can pull off cool tricks with the mecha koopas and >B. I don't know where he will end up relation to other characters, but again, I don't see him in the top tiers. He probably counters as many people as he is countered by. He has problems with rushdown characters that can run away from him e.g sheik.

Villager: Fun and random moveset. His playstyle is similar to megaman's - a mid range zoner with an added tree. A counterpick character if there ever was one.

Captain Falcon: The captain is back! I think Falcon will see a lot of tournament play this smash series. Similar strengths to Yoshi, except he has an excellent grab game in trade for a below average recovery.

Don't want to comment on other characters yet because I've had minimal playtime as them but the standouts I've met online are: Greninja, ZSS, Sheik, Dedede and Little Mac. Little Mac will probably be weaker in tournaments if people can select other stages though.

I also think Pacman is a bullshit character. If pacman decides to just run away and spam fire hydrant + fruits, there's not much you can do. Harder to catch than Duck Hunt Duo or any other ranged character in the game.

Decided to use Ike in For Fun since I like him and he hits fucking hard.

Proceeded to win 5 straight matches, with two of them coming from sudden death.

It's like playing Brawl all over again.

Ike's one of my favorites just because of that.
He's perfect for FFA. If you get in you're going to wreck some stuff up.

Weird, the game gave me the milestone for a score over 1000 in Homerun contest just today, even though I've had more than that with other characters before today. Anybody else noticing inconsistencies with milestone notifications?

That happened to me. I think there's supposed to be a couple more 0's on that milestone.

I've been saying this for a while, but ditch Warp for Jump Glide ASAP and never, ever approach from the ground if you can help it. Palutena is terrible up close and her tilts suck. You can glide off the ground with Jump Glide and it makes it really easy and fast to approach someone with a forward air, or cross-up for a back air or a grab, and use her pretty solid grabs and pivot grabs to rack up damage. Superspeed instead of Reflect improves your keepaway game and allows you to make crazy off-stage chases since momentum is conserved when you jump out of it. And abuse the shit out of Autoreticle to rack up percent and make approaching more difficult for your opponent. Never stay in one place too long and try to get your opponent off-stage for a gimp or bait them into her absurdly good Usmash. Counter is just a decent (if risky) general up close defensive option.

IMO, that set-up makes Palutena very satisfying to play.

I posted it a few days ago. It's 1000 meters, I think. Just the message wasn't updated because it was ~3000 feet.

I'm interested in trying to learn how to actually play Smash Bros well. I'm just not sure where to start. :/
If you really want to learn how to play the game well, find some local friends or Smash players who also want to get good (or are already good) and play them a lot. It really helps if you can find someone that's pretty even with you to improve along side of. But there are things to learn against players that are equal, much worse, and especially much better than you.

Smash isn't a technically complex game for the most part, so it's fine if you don't put in much training time by yourself at first.

There aren't many guides and stuff for Smash 4 so far, but there are some good general resources.

i disagree. I've found alot of success with her in For Glory. Quick run speed, some of her normals have great priority. I spam reflect and her Autoreticle all day. It stops most other projectiles cold. And her recovery is awesome with that quick teleport.

Pretty much this. Also, this game ain't KOF or Street fighter, it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. It's pretty much momentum based game so If you have a passion for it you'll get get a natural flow for how the characters work over time. Once you have a good understanding on the mechanics, look up some 'techs' to make you feel flashy. Keep doing these techs you'll eventually find ways to incorporate it into your game.

Cool, I'll check those links out. I have a fair few friends who are around the same skill level as me so I'll try and get in more battles with them!
