Anyone feeling good about a particular Palu custom set-up? I've been running Autoreticle, Jump Glide, Superspeed, and Counter as of the moment and I'm liking it. Autoreticle is probably one of the best projectiles in the game, and something that I feel like I really underestimated when I first saw it in action. It covers a huge amount of space and it's perfect for harassing people from across the stage. Even if you might not hit with it, it absolutely forces your opponent to react.

Jump Glide is something that I wasn't really thinking a lot about until D1's analysis video happened and I found out you can tri-dash with Palutena, lol. No damage off it directly, obviously, but the speed and maneuverability of it is pretty crazy, and makes for a much more reliable approach option IMO than most of the grounded normals.

Superspeed is just insanely good, to the point where I don't know why anyone wouldn't pick it. Covers a huge amount of space really quickly, and it's got a decent hitbox too. Most important bit, though, is that Palutena actually keeps her momentum when she jumps out of it. You can meet your opponent on an off-stage chase from incredibly far-away and incredibly quickly (especially if they're not expecting it) to rush in and gimp them, and Jump Glide's horizontal recovery is so good that you can recover from incredibly far so there's almost no risk in going off-stage. If Palutena had a legit kill-move off her aerials, this would probably be one of her best options

Counter is just something I slid in there to help when I'm in a pinch with Palutena and an opponent is all up in my grille. I don't really think any of her Down Specials are particularly useful, but Counter fills a pretty solid niche and it's useful enough.

I've been a little curious about swapping out Counter for Lightweight, but it's pretty excessive when Palutena's aerial mobility is already as good as it is, and the risk/reward of it (particularly if you fail to get anything useful out of it) isn't really that appealing to me since that 'tired' phase after using it seems immensely shitty. Mobility is Palutena's best trait, and knee-capping it even for a short-term benefit doesn't sell me. If it made some of her normals less laggy, I think it'd be for sure the best Special, but alas.

Would love to hear if anyone's got any better set-ups.

I'm sitting here playing Smash on a bus on the way home from campus and it still blows my fragile mind that portable Smash Bros. is actually a real thing. If I go back in time and tell my 1999 self that someday he would be playing Smash in a moving vehicle, he would certainly laugh at my face without remorse.

I remember this old commercial in the N64 days; there was a contest or something to win a Game Boy Color, and on the screen they mistakenly show Mario 64. I remember musing about it with family, and we were saying "Yeah, right. Maybe in 20 years." 10 years later we get Mario 64 DS lol.

Ugh, the more I think about it, the more Magicant and Wiley's Castle make me sad

Two perfectly good levels rendered entirely unplayable by gimmicks the stage didn't even need.

It's a tragedy really, both were one better decision away from being fun, interesting, fair levels...

Is there a more detailed cheese tactic to clear Master core 9.0? I have the critical hit badge but my other equipment is crap so it doesn't seem to help much. Starting from the beginning is frustrating and makes me want to quit the fucking mode all together so some advice would be appreciated lol

Yeah, I can't help but think that a lot of stages would be improved by removing the hazards that completely overpower the match. Yellow Devil is definitely one of the worst.

Yellow Devil pisses me off so much in All Star mode. So dumb.

I just look at Mute City as a great example of a stage. It has a few gimmicks, with no fall area to the stage and cars that move in and out, but the cars move in and out with ample warning, and the road doesn't disrupt game play or get in the way. It's an example of a stage done right

Favorites so far are Yoshi, Luigi, Mega Man, and King Dedede. Giving a little love to different classes. Marth/Zero Suit Samus/Little Mac are great too, but I have them a notch below.

Least favorite is Palutena. I have no idea how to play with her. Her dash attacks are terrible, so I can only really connect when standing still. Plus I don't like her special moves. Feels like I'm just blocking and rolling around, trying to luck into the right position for a still attack. Not fun.

It is a shame how awesome the Mii Fighters are since you can't use em online vs randoms.

This is really irksome. Though I guess I understand due to data transfer limitations I guess.

I love my Mii fighters. I made a bunch of really quickie (IE terrible) facsimiles of Final Fantasy characters, as well as bases for the Shyguy mask and the Toad hat that you unlock. Good times!

It makes me sad that theres no Smash Run in the WiiU version, I love it D:
I like it, but I wish the first part was a minute shorter, and the last part was a minute or two longer. At least if it's a Smash battle.

It is fun though. Popping open a chest or tough enemy to find a bunch of giant speed or power increases is a great experience.

Multi man smash is much better here. Really hated having to do 100 man brawl over and over because of random exploding capsules and bombs.

Yes, yes, yes. I literally hate fighting the CPUs on Wily's Castle and Magicant. So much so, the first moment Flying Man appears I make it my mission to be the first person to hit him. And then Yellow Devil... well, there's nothing you can do about it because fighting him vs fighting the CPUs would be a silly choice to make -- I generally try to end the match before Yellow Devil even shows up but that is not always possible. It just makes it not... very fun at all.

I almost even avoid fighting MM or Ness in Classic mode because of those stages. :|

They would be amazing tournament stages if they didn't have Yellow Devil and Flying Man. Wily's Castle has such a crazy good platform layout that it's a damn shame it's marred by Yellow Devil. All that wasted potential because of one gimmick.

I love how one-sided the conquest between Bowser and Villager is. I threw my hat in with the winning side myself.

and boy howdy is pacman's hydrant a satisfying move

I finally got around to playing this online for glory and...it was pretty rough. Not unplayable, but there was a very noticeable delay, especially when off-stage, and it was hard to adjust after so much practice offline. I somehow self-destructed three times across two fights while trying to recover, just messed up the timing I suppose. :/

I am loving the game, though! Even the vets feel fresh, and I've even started liking a few characters I hated in past games - especially Sheik, who has somehow become one of my favourites. Diddy is disappointing though - he was one of my Brawl mains, but feels different this time and not as good or fun.

Mains through the ages:
64: Samus
Melee: Samus
Brawl: Marth/Diddy Kong
3DS: Sheik/Marth/Mega Man

Also loving: Charizard, Luigi, Duck Hunt Dog, Robin, Greninja, Bowser, Zero Suit Samus, Rosalina, Pac-Man, Roy...and probably R.O.B when I get around it unlocking him.

In what world does the name "Duck Hunt" make sense for the dog-duck duo? That's like calling Link "The Legend of Zelda." :/

If Link didn't have a name. And "Legend of Zelda" was as nearly as phonetically snappy as "Duck Hunt". And seriously, would you rather they just called the Dog "Fido" or something? Game & Watch guy is called "Game and Watch", just go with it.

and then you read that sakurai didn't want to give the option of turning it off because he doesn't wanna end up with PASBR

Legend of Zelda has over twice the syllables Duck Hunt does, exactly. And you'd call them Link/Dog, unless they were teamed up with the game's antagonists. So if it was a Link/Ganon team, you call it Legend of Zelda.

Fan theory: the dog is the shooter in Duck Hunt. You never see him on screen while you're able to shoot, right? You're playing as the Dog. He's trying to maintain a good attitude when he misses, coping via a snarky laugh.

So how am I supposed to dodge right when I land on the ground? My opponents seem to do it regularly and even seem to dodge through my attacks.
