Nintendo sure loves Isabelle

This is actually one of the reasons why I haven't gone back to animal crossing lately... I dread how my town looks and the disapproval of my assistant mayor... How the hell am I still mayor of a town I haven't visited in almost a year anyways? Do they not recall bad mayors!?
Even an absentee mayor is still better than Rob Ford.

Bro, Isabelle is here to stay. Expect her to headline every Animal Crossing game going forward. In one fell swoop she has supplanted Tom Nook, K.K. Slider, and Kapp'n as the face of the game.

People were being creepy as fuck about her in the New Leaf thread when that game came out, and whenever I see Isabelle I'm constantly reminded of that.

And this is precisely why I no longer like Isabelle anymore. Nintendo is milking her because they know that she has... broad appeal. Pop-O-Matic is right, I'm afraid.

Isabelle was pretty cute and helpful, don't see how people found her annoying.

Sadly Animal Crossing can't seem to hold my attention too long, only stuck with the game for a couple months, but had some fun times like making my town song.

This is one of the reasons why I'm beginning to not even like her anymore. People are way too creepy with their liking for the character, and these gross ass humanoid portrayals of her in fanart... fuck that.

All these imaginary character avatars are leveraged to sell products and merchandise by printing, modeling and making polygonal skins. If it makes money it will exist.

You can search anything and "rule 34" is one of the top results. I end up finding a lot of that when searching pretty innocuous pokemon (not even stuff like lopunny and gardevoir). Never EVER click Images when you mean Web.

Also, not that all fanbases don't have weirdos, but uh. The Wii U is the only console I've had greet me with Sonic OCs and Smash 4 shipping art on the main menu. Urg.

Dude. What is the music in that 3DS fashion trailer.

I need this music to be the soundtrack of my life genuinely.

I don't know why why people say Nintendo push the creepy thing. It's the internet that push those thing, and every fictional character have that creepy side of them on the internet. The only thing Nintendo push it's :" Look at this cute dog girl, isn't she cute."

The only example I can think of that might be them pushing creepy is Mega Gardevoir and Mega Lopunny (and that's probably Gamefreak's prerogative not Nintendo). There's no way those are coincidences. Isabelle, that's just because she's cute.

Isabelle feels like another Rosalina situation, where people only started liking her because she was the new kawaii girl of the series (if she'd been a boy named "Izzy" I guarantee she would have never gotten a following) and then Nintendo decided to capitalize on it by shoving her into everything.

Seriously though, Isabelle got into Mario Kart over K.K. Slider? The dude has seniority!!

That Mario Kart thing is indeed a travesty.

Animal Crossing is Tom Nook, Ressetti, K.K. Slider. I get why the first two might not be universally loved, but K.K is in a different league.

The whole thing is awful, Isabelle's obsession with you as a mayor can become creepy and its creepy for me people who like that obsession as well.

"THIS HAPPENS TO EVERY FEMALE CHARACTER" is not a valid excuse. Isabelle rule 34 is extremely popular on Tumblr, so I'm not surprised that Nintendo has been trying to shoehorn her into everything.

These two ideas have no logical connection to each other, it's entirely conjecture. If "ratio of porn" searches influenced nintendo's decisions, we'd be seeing Tiny Kong "forced" into every game.

I never played Animal Crossing, I know who KK Slider is but I wouldn't recognize him, but I recognize Isabelle thanks to all the fan art, cartoons, people with Isabelle avatars and so on. So no, it's not a travesty - Isabelle's fame and appeal transcends Animal Crossing, making her far more suitable for crossovers and merchandise.

Isabelle is a character based on their preferred demographic (young, trendy OLs) so of course they're pushing her hard.

This is a chicken/egg thing, do you recognize more Isabelle because she was popular and Nintendo picked on that and decided to use her? Or was she pushed by Nintendo from the beginning as the new AC face, making her popular from the start? I think is the latter.

Can confirm. Just checked nearest "fan-art" sites, Isabelle aka Shizue (?) is peanuts compared to fan favorites like Trainer or Rosalina. Both characters don't seem to get appearance boost by Nintendo.

What? I just visited that site for science.

I was going to get ACNL day one regardless and I've definitely seen way more isabelle after release.

Creepy time now?

Really wish we could appreciate characters without bringing up Rule 34.

Know what's funny/sad, OTs for "lol Compile Heart" game threads: quite clean. Posts about Nintendo characters? borderline NSFW fanart threads. Persona? You better believe that's a waifu thread.

I think enough time has passed from New Leaf where Isabelle's popularity is authentic. You can only "force" a character to be popular for so long before people lose interest.
As an example, look at the difference between Lucario and Zoroark. After Lucario became a breakaway mascot hit, they tried to poise Zoroark as one, too, but no one liked it, so even though it got a movie, we still have Lucario as one of the faces of pokemon.
Nook and Slider had years of exposure that never reached the commercial success with merchandise and appeal that Isabelle has in a much shorter time.

Your sacrifice is noble. I think what happens is that a LARGE chunk of Isabelles fanbase are young women and children who just don't spend much time searching for images on the internet, which skews the results towards the more "passionate" area of her fanbase. I could be wrong, but I think it's more reasonable than saying Porn influences Nintendo's marketing decisions, or else the Isabelle merch we'd see would, uh, reflect that. *SHUDDER*

Out of all your conspiracy theories about Nintendo, this has to be the most insane.

A company that killed its messaging program due to creeps sending notes to underaged girls is actively promoting a character because of her rule 34 popularity.

Interestingly you mention Rosalina in your post, I think the spanish names for Isabelle and Rosalina are better (although Isabelle is cute and ad makes sense in english, so that good, Rosalina is so stupid...)
Canela is awesome becuase its a pun of can (another wordfor dog apart of perro in spanish) and her personality is sweet like Cinnamon (Canela). Canela is also a typical spanish name for female dogs.

Estela is better than Rosalina because Rosalina seems to be taken directly from a random character in a shitty south american soap opera. She is not wearing any pink or red either (there are blue roses, but thats not the first thing you think when you say her name). In the other hand Estela means star in latin and its perfect for her.
Rosetta is also stupid, and the only thing that reminds me hearing that is the rosetta stone, not a space princess.

Treehouse are sually amazing at localising, but seems Nintendo Iberica knows how to localise names for female characters better lol

People love Isabelle. Nintendo knows it and exploits her for merchandising and stuffs.

It also helps the fact that she fits the mascotte-like Nintendo model, and she is in one of the most popular Nintendo games of the past years.

Ding Ding Ding.

But tumblr is popular with the kids and Nintendo is desperate!

Isabelle is freaking adorable and haters can hate all they want but they are wrong.

They're actively promoting the character because she is popular. Unfortunately, a large chunk of her popularity is based around sexually explicit fan art. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
