Vertigo Cyan was so bad I passed on this. Is it more than one good short story?

I have found something enjoyable in every story. It all depends on what you want from a comic. This book is all about love, acceptance, loss, and various other social issues. Each story has been incredibly well written so far, but mileage will vary.

More people should really give Secret Avengers a chance. I'm putting it at the top of my Marvel list right now, there hasn't been a single issue that's left me unsatisfied. Cameo at the end of this book (spoilers for this issues obviously)
DEADPOOL!
was especially funny, as is some of the dialogue and captions for Hawkeye.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I want. Now.

I love the idea of a quarterly, but Cyan was such a mish-mosh of horseshit that I was hesitant about Magenta. I'll grab it next week--good looks.

I see you're lovin' that Hawkeye again.

Indeed. Dropped. What the hell man. For every fun book the guy writes there is always some steaming pile of shit coming our way soon enough.

Well they are Superheroes, but heroes with flaws. I always liked that. Squeeky clean heroes aren't any fun.

As for the story...
It's the newest incarnation of the Iluminati, a group known for making the decisions nobody wants to take. Ever since the first issue (after kicking Cap from the team) they've been franticly trying to research their options, but apparently this is the only option. they don't want to. Panther, Reed, Tony, Hank, Bruce... they don't want to kill a World. Namor would. The not-Justice League had the same idea in the end.

The whole thing is not done haphazardly. It's the culmination of 20 issues of
going "we absolutely can't do this and trying to find another way. This time there was no out and it's going to have dire consequences. I like it, no last second save, no alternate cast of characters that do awful things because "Hey it's Earth 4584215 Iron Man, who cares about that guy," they're going to have to live with what they've done.
I'm interested to see the fallout.

You could try out the current Guardians of the Galaxy series. If you aren't into Bendis, you should at least check out issue 14 since tt has backups by Abnett and Lanning that were really good. Guardians of the Galaxy 3000 starts this fall and is going to be written by Abnett so definitely look out for that.

Rocket Raccoon is one issue in and started pretty solid. I hear Nova's been pretty good ever since Duggan took over but I haven't read it myself. Haven't read Star-Lord.

You don't have to read any of these in any specific order.
Thanks, will try this :D

I bought it. Don't preach to me. :D

I do have to seriously drop some more shit, though. For real, yo.

damn dudes, I bought three comics today and totaled at just under ten bucks. I passed on the Vertigo Magenta thing because Cyan contained some of the worst comics i've read all year. I'll pick it up next week maybe if it's apparently good though

How is B&N still in business?

No price match between website and store. ($5 difference on a $12 book).

Atrocious packaging on shipped books. Just the book in a brown cardboard sleeve.

Inefficient shipping - I ordered 3 books (B2G1).

1- One shipped with a tracking number, arrived today.
2- The second arrived as a separate package but without me ever receiving a shipping notification. Arrived today as well.
3 - The third ships sometime in August.

She'd Rather Not Talk About It: New ‘Spider-Woman’ Team On Jessica Drew’s Past (And Future)

Just jumped right out at me:

Comics Alliance: How was the creative team assembled for SPIDER-WOMAN? Was the book something the creators pursued, or something Marvel offered?

Dennis Hopeless: Nick called to ask if I’d be interested in writing a Spider-Woman ongoing. I yelled “I’m in!” dropped the phone and started dancing. I was writing in a coffee shop that day. People stared. Fortunately Nick took that as a yes and called back later after I’d calmed myself. I’ve been smiling ever since.

Greg Land: Nick called based on a conversation we had a year ago… When the X-Men title featuring the female characters came out, I asked Nick if my name even came up when they were starting that book. A cast of strong female characters would be right in my wheelhouse. So Nick remembered me asking to work on such a book if something ever came around again, and luckily for me, I was offered the project. I think I actually said “Hell Yes!” when he asked.
Y'hear that, comic fans? Greg Land knows strong female characters.

I think they'll end up following Borders to the grave. It's only a matter of time. Within the next 5-10 years they'll be finished.

Low is going to be another Sci-Fi hit for Remender. It's a hard read but it is very rewarding. This guy is the Frank Herbert of comics.

Yup, that's what I like about New Avengers. There's been a few bad issues, but overall the story is really enjoyable and I'm always curious what's going to happen next. I found that a bit surprising, because I absolutely loathed the original Illuminati group. You know, Namor, Black Bolt, Strange, Tony, Reed and Xavier. Their calls were wrong every time, the biggest blunder they made was the Hulk. They thought they had every right, but their arrogance was disgusting. Well, except for Namor and Xavier who admitted their mistakes in the end.

The new Illuminati aren't as... Disconnected. Well, with the exception of Namor. Fuck that arrogant guy. Everyone else just want another way out and they can't. Beast for example got dragged into this because Xavier's dead, but in the end I think he'd rather turn his back on the group. Bruce joined the group because he'll stop them from making some half-assed plans. T'Challa for the same reasons.

I'm totally expecting a deathmatch between T'Challa and Namor. Maybe even a stand-off with whatever happened to Strange. Those two are on my "they gonna be rekt" list.

This is still pretty common in a lot of chains unfortunately

That's a shame, really. I still like going into a shop and buying books. I am open to (and have) paid 10-20% more than Amazon's price at a store to get a book.

I am not paying $12.99 for something that is on their website for $7.80.

Super light week for me this week, only two books.

Justice League - we find out what happened to
Element Woman
after the events of Forever Evil and then catch up to the end of last issue. The
Doom Patrol
takes on Jessica Cruz aka
the new Power Ring
and then the League shows up and does their thing. Cyborg hacks
the Power Ring and we learn more about it and Jessica Cruz
. Lex offers
Capt Cold
a job as head of security.
The Chief
is still a dick. I have to imagine this isn't what people were expecting when it was announced that Lex was joining the League, but it's been a good arc to date. Johns is clearly playing the long game here, and likely setting up the next year or so of stories.

Manhattan Projects - This was essentially a wrap up issue, bringing to an end the first chapter of the series. Characters are shuffled on and off the board as Hickman gets everything in place to begin the next era of the Projects during the Cold War. In a perfect world it would have also served to launch a
Feynman and the Einsteins killing around the Multiverse
spin off book.

I completely agree with you. It's archaic in this day and age and it does nothing but infuriate customers and cause issues for customer service.
Whoever recommended Fraction's Hawkeye here needs a medal. All of you. It's amazing.

Definitely check out Brubaker and Fraction's Iron Fist. I also recommend Superior Foes of Spider-Man (has nothing to do with Spidey, it's a comedy book) and Mark Waid's Daredevil.

Hawkeye coming in and doing big things.

Also, I have seriously underestimated Doug Mahnke. Justice League was dope.

How did you underestimate the best artist in DC's stable tho.

Dude even looks good with a dozen inkers (why does he always have a dozen inkers)

Avoid all American anthologies imo

How is the art? I'm curious if I should pick it up physically or just grab it digitally.

It's beautiful, but it's demanding. The book reminds me of Dune In a sense where Remender has crafted this world with tocchini help, and you have to digest a lot of Information. A lot of babble that will eventually pay off. It'll take at least two reads to take it all In. It's VERY abstract but works for what Remender is aiming for.

In other news, Hawkeye was flawless. Worth the wait. 10/10. I don't know how I'm going to pick my #1 for the month.

Avoid all American anthologies imo

Witching Hour and Magenta do not agree with this opinion.

Mahnke got to do some brand new pages for Final Crisis #7 in the new edition, and it still looks like he has a dozen inkers who take turns on different pages and panels.

This was a great week for comics. Its crazy but I didn't notice unti now that Remender and Hickman are writing 75% of the comics I read regularly.

You're one of the first people in the monthly threads to mention Brubaker on Iron Fist. Usually people only mention Fraction and Aja when it comes to the series.

Sounds right up my alley; looks like I'll pick up a hard copy. Thanks!

Going to start reading Immortal Iron Fist today.

No, I like B&N. Always a great selection of Sci-Fi. It just seems like their physical stores are very badly run.

They seem to be incredibly understaffed. I felt horrible for the people working at mine. Lot of bitchy old lady's don't realize that a woman working two registers at once can only work so fast.

Low #1. Oh my god, this book is amazing. It's like Rick Remender is writing Bioshock. It's wordier than I expected, but the plot seems very promising. In a time when my Hickman-boner is weakening, my Remender-boner is stronger than ever.

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Just finished the first arc of Fraction/Brubaker's Iron Fist! That was so great.
I'll be honest, for the first 3 or 4 issues I thought it was good but didn't quite get why people thought it was amazing, but then with the introduction of
the seven cities of Heaven and their respective lords and the fleshing out of Orson's character with the PTSD-type symptoms from the First World War and his refusal to fight afterwards
, I started loving it as much as everyone else. Such great comics.
Now I'm incredibly excited to finish reading the rest of the series.

The deals I got on B&N this past weekend actually beat IST by $40 when all was said and done.

Geeez. What all did you buy?

Going to start reading Immortal Iron Fist today.

*High five*

I may be misunderstanding your post, but to clear things up, Brubaker and Fraction wrote their run on Iron Fist together (with Aja on art), so Brubaker's Iron Fist and Fraction's Iron Fist are the same thing.

Dude Red Lanterns Annual was epic! So much goodness to talk about. I hope this book does not get pulled into event hell. It's been such a fantastic book on its own.
