New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

Glorious.

My posts are always serious

Looks pretty damn good even in shitty compressed youtube vids. Looking forward to that HQ 1080p footage on Monday though.

Please Evo also provide for races with more than 2-3 laps, or let us set the lap count in the career mode ourselves. All the big circuit racing games seem to follow the same aggravating mold of putting the player in last or near last place and then asking them to get a podium finish in two laps. Its stupid, and only encourages dirty racing and bumper cars.

Seconded.

I would really love to see what they can do with the Motorstorm IP on this generation's hardware down the line.

...and this. I can't wait to try DC, but Motorstorm on PS4 would have me outside Evolution's offices banging on the doors. I really hope they have the chance to show what it can be on PS4.

Granted youtube compression is crap, but am I the only one who didnt find these 2 gameplay vids particularly impressive?

They look good, but atleast what i saw was quite worse than the most recent realtime trailer we had last week.

Should i make an appointment with the eye doctor?

GET HIM!

So are we going to see only high end cars in this game or will some of the lower end cars be in as well?

Well if there's going to be the Golf GTI, I would expect some other hot hatches as well (Focus or Fiesta ST/Clio RS/etc) which aren't really high end. I wouldn't expect a Prius.

I think Evolution has totally failed with the vision of this game. We heard the tracks are 5 minutes long, then what's the point of having global illumination for real time tod? No dynamic wheater, short tracks, the game seems to be missing a lot of effects...

looks very meh atm. This game is failing to capture the exciting that was present in the Motorstorm series. I mean look at these gifs

the developer failed to learn from their own past. the tracks look extreme pedestrian and boring.
Needs more explosions.

I disagree, BUT I prefer the style of game that Motorstorm is over the type of game Driveclub is. That being said, I think Driveclub is definitely succeeding in the kind of game it is; it looks fantastic, has a PGR feel which is the most sim-like I'll go, and has a cool social aspect.

Would anyone else prefer it if they dropped the 900 degree lock-to-lock steering wheel animation and opted for something more standard? It looks incredibly loose and twitchy, and i imagine it's even worse with a pad. if they made it a smaller turn to full lock, it would make the handling look and feel much tighter...like in GT.

Agreed. There was something unsettling about watching that steering wheel.

Jesus. Basing this on 2 tracks? Seriously? Drama queen much? PEACE.

Don't most racers with TOD allow you to accelerate/slow time according to how you want? Doesn't Gran Turismo have this same feature? I'm not getting the problem.

Also crazy how you show videos of an offroad, arcade, explosion ridden destruction derby style racer to say that this(DC) doesn't capture that same excitement.

It's like going to an Olympic wrestling match and complaining no one jumped off the top rope for a frog splash.

Have to disagree. It looks likt the footage was compressed mulitple times. Even 720p footage on Youtube should be able to look better than this.
If you're promoting your game or games in general i think you should investigate how to deliver the best possible quality for streaming.
This is specially aimed at IGN.
Fucking Vimeo. It's not that hard and even their employees use it! Signed in, I can download that linked video which is 1.7GB:

NOT HARD, IGN etc.

Man, PGR4 is still incredible after all these years.

My little session has me very hyped for this.
It really, really is. Driving around Quebec very much feels like something that would've slotted in well with Driveclub.

If the DLC they're working on is a couple of cities rather than slightly-vague countryscapes, I'll be over the moon.

Think I'll reserve judgement on IQ until we see the HQ vid - if I weren't jet-lagged and on an iPad I'd dig around in the cinematic reveal thread and find some quotes about jaggies reported on the YT vid there that disappeared when the HQ vid went up.

Lighting looks so good I want its babies tho - properly conveys the feel of night driving by headlight, love the way the interior illuminates when you pass in front of another car's beams and the sunrise flare through the hill gap is awesome balls.

I think the close-in exterior rear view was a bad choice and I hope they include a chase-cam view for external views as for me they convey speed better. The interior/bonnet/bumper views are great tho.

Handling looks right up my street - just sim enough to not be pointless (as someone who does track days fairly regularly I find serious sims great technically but a bit if a waste as no matter how good & faithful the physics are not being able to feel the car and road physically removes most of the fun in 'serious' driving), and arcadey enough for some laughs with sliding about.

Still really hyped for this game, and can't wait for the HQ on Monday.

Where are the American muscle cars and Japanese cars? It's a nice list of European sports cars but lacks imagination. Some high performance Japanese cars wouldn't go astray. The more I see of this game the less interesting it becomes.
It always bugs me when devs have the M series and AMG performance but not the Cadillac v-series. I know GT6, forza horizon and forza 5 has the coupe but the sedan and wagon variants are awesome too. Wouldn't mind seeing the sedan in this game

I honestly can't tell whether its good looking or not because of how bad the video quality is. Why would you release tent pole games in only 360p.

is it just me or the road is really narrow for 12 man race. could be awesome for 1 on 1 match though like that Initial D game I played at arcades.

Maybe it was the terrible vídeo compression but in terms of visual it didn't look like this.

Now, was the gif "fake" per se, or was the vídeo just badly done?

Not trying to hate.

Considering that gif came straight from PS4 capture I'd say it is the difference in compression. I mean the link of the gif is from Gamersyde who are known for putting up high quality photos and videos when available.

I actually really like how narrow the roads look in these videos. Wheel to wheel tight racing is the best kind of racing. The tension of one mistake possible screwing up everything and everyone is the best part of these games IMO.

I don't see why the game wouldn't be able to output what's in that gif. The lighting in the nighttime footage in the first video is more impressive IMO. Both of the IGN clips are simply very compressed.

A couple more GIFs on the way. Loved the tail lights and the shadows here

And the sense of speed and environment density right from the start

Looks totally amazing and will fill my PGR void in my life.

The lighting as others stated is bar none top notch.

The reflective effects during night and dust time races on the reflective road signs and road side poles, etc all reflect with such realistic reflectiveness giving the game a real nice feel during night time racing. The only other game to have ever done this right was Rallisport Challenge 2 many moons ago..but not as good as DC is doing it now..its bad ass..

So whats the deal with steering wheel peripherals for this game? I want to invest in a wheel but I'm not even sure whats compatible.

I just realised what else this game needs: Dem Kudos ticking sounds. Or something similar. Hopefully they find a way to put this in the game for dat visceral feedback.

No-one knows (or will tell) :/

The confirmed wheels are the Thrustmaster T500RS and T80. I have no idea how good the T80 is, but it costs around $140. The T500RS is top of the line as far as racing wheels go. But the price will likely scare you unless you're really into racing games.

Considering that gif is about half the size of the second vid in MBs, I'm going to say it's compression.

The game looks seriously amazing. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I still hope there's a new Motorstorm one day though, loved those games.

I thought it did, at least for the "challenges" where you rack up drift points and stuff to try to beat a score.

IGN's video quality is absolute garbage, I reckon the developers must get so annoyed seeing their work get turned into a mess like that. In fact this seems like it's been a much bigger problem this generation, the games are getting better and better looking but the video quality is not allowing for that to shown off. Thank goodness for outlets like gamersyde who actually give a shit.

No, the game just needs an option in the display settings (front end & pause menu) to limit the animation range.

180° - 900° animation range slider - job done.

In Rushy we Trust!

I really can't fault the graphics, they look fantastic, the sense of speed is awesome the camera's are great and the lighting is especially good. I can't claim to know what every track will look like but going purely from what i have seen I wish there were more creative environments, for example having something like Aurora Borealis in the night sky, or a huge sweeping vista down the side of a mountain slope, some visual set pieces.
The tracks on show were amazingly detailed and well made but I would love there to be some more creativeness. Maybe that's just me and a lot of people playing care more about the handling, the racing and track layout rather than the above but it seems like this is something they could have done as well.
That said I genuinely think this looks awesome and think the devs have done a great job, I will be buying. The way the headlights hit the car on the first night track was so realistic
