"How's that?"
"Well, once there was only dark. If you ask me the light is winning.
sounds like a decent perspective on things, but i think errol was using the tuttles and rust for his own long term amusement. carcosa seemed supernaturaly scary and enwildening because it was.
whoever we meet in S2, whatever the case, we might chop his legs off but hell is gonna continue to reign right here day to day. that's what i took from this series.
But even in present day where they'd been looking for him specifically, no one could give them a name or a location of where he might be.It was 17 years ago, Rust and Cohle weren't even looking for "the man with the scars" in 1995.
Can someone tell me what Rust says at the very end? I could not understand it at all.
fantastic ending to a great show. love the ending between marty and rust. MM with his emmy moment at the end.
them feels.

Just saying, Errol is a face that no one could forget. Dude works out in public all over the place. Yet it was still pretty fucking hard to find him.

Thing is, Errol is from the Childress family, who is connected to the Tuttles. I get the sense that these families have been doing this shit for decades. And that Errol got messed up by being a kid growing up in this family, and being involved. Keep in mind, Errol had his face scarred because of what his father did to him.
The fact that the Tuttle's were quick to cover this case up (as was Childress), proves that they I. Were aware it was errol and II. They didn't want the exposure that was Lange gave to their activities. I'm making an assumption here, but the fact that they never displayed their victims in the past, makes me think that Errol was doing it on his own. And we already know that Errol had a past victim (that girl that was floating in the river). So he was leading up to Lange (it was apart of his own ritual of killing).
My guess is (and yes this is a guess), is that Tuttle, Childress and all of them told Errol to knock the shit off, and stop displaying victims (and they also covered for him, as he could tie back to what their families had been doing).
I dunno, I just don't get the sense that the families were involved in Lange. But I could totally be wrong.

I've been trying to track it down, but I'm not having any luck. Presumably Reddit or something else will get to it eventually.Amazing episode. So much bromance. Love it. What's that song? Saw what cornballer posted but can't seem to find it anywhere on the internets like it's a song that doesn't exist lol.
Anyone figure it out yet?

yeah i'm with you, this is the main logical explanation. but i am going into the more basic evil rather than just errol i should have clarified - i think errol is the current host of the devil in the show, as shown by that crazy carcosa shit, and there is a greater evil always lurking in the world of true d. just to be clear - not a christian idea of the devil, just something awful which fuels us all.
Looked but didn't see: anyone have a list of all the whispers Rust heard in Carcosa?
Spaghetti face is the type of guy everyone would know and talk about on appearance alone. You say that, but I don't think I could identify most of the people I see day-to-day.
Well see, I agree with you about the "sprawl". I just think for me, this is what made the ending so disturbing. That they got Errol for this Lange case, but they know that was their families had been doing has gone on for decades. And there is no justice to that. No justice for all the little children being sacrificed. So I agree about the overall evil, and yes that was definitely the point of the ending.
You know though, I find it interesting that Errol + Ledoux had those two children. And there was a lot of children's clothes in his Carcosa layer. And yet, Lange + that other girl, were much older. It seems at odds with the ritual sacrifice we know Tuttle was involved in (ie. it seems they used little kids. Whereas we know two victims of Errol were older women in their late 20s/30s).
"Kill me"
You're looking at it wrong, it used to be all darkness.
I really didn't expect rust to turn into an optimist.
All of that makes sense, but why wouldn't the Tuttles have just killed Errol? For all the effort that they (probably) put in to cover it all up, why not have him killed when the heat came back on?

I just find it strange that Errol would be this leader to these families.
MM is 100% going to win the Emmy (and deservedly so)......but goddammit if he shouldn't share the award with Woody. Rust is a MUCH more sexy and flashy role than Marty, who basically was the straight man of the duo. And the fact that he still stood toe to toe with Rust is a testament to Woody.
...........maaaaybe he's pure evil??? sorry i'm not trying to be sarcastic, it's just so clear to me
The paint connection was stupid, and the hallucination was a convenient way for Rust to get stabbed.
