I really think the idea of up and coming actors or previous tv actors moving into films is an unrealistic scenario. JGL, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy or Tom Hanks seem unrealistic IMO because it just doesn't seem like their current career path right now.

I think more realistic is a Dustin Hoffman type scenario where a older star actor might want to flex his muscle in a new format or take the chance to work with a great writer/director to elevate his status or have a chance at a late life defining role. Or more open minded supporting film actors who want a defining role or medium to big actors that's careers have been up and down. I'm thinking along the lines of Sam Rockwell, Mark Ruffalo, guy Pearce, Chris Cooper, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Alec Baldwin or even a Bruce Willis if he's back in his wanting to be taken serious mode again. Then again I also think a female will be a featured star of the show so I don't know on that front....

I think those are the ceilings of star power to be thinking about realistically though.






....Personally Ian Mcshane would be a dream casting for me. I think he's criminally underrated and Al Swearengen was one of the greatest characters in tv or film in history IMO. Though it doesn't fit what I think are realistic casting choices since he's at this point very low profile and not a name the series can hang their hat on marketing wise.

The murder in 2012 at the lake happened only a few days before Rust was interviewed. If Maggie makes it apparent that she doesn't talk to Audrey much but that she trusts her boyfriend who takes care of her. Meanwhile, the murder has been kept off the press and the only one who's seen the pictures are the investigators plus Rust and Marty.

Given these circumstances and the fact that Audrey's story is clearly leading somewhere, I think there's a good chance the girl in the 2012 murder is in fact Audrey.

Regarding Audrey, I can see it being something much more subtle and ultimately inconsequential to the case. She might not be a direct victim nor would anything end badly for her in the story. Rather, if Marty just discovers along the way at the end that she has been somewhat involved with this dark subculture in the region since she was young, possibly due to peer influence and lack of direct parental supervision, and might still be part of it now, it would conclude the character arcs in a thematic way where on one hand it shows that there are survivors among children who were influenced by these events, not everyone disappears or dies, and so it's actually far wider than people think. On the other hand, it shows that Marty has ultimately truly failed as a father, and there is no total redemption, because even if he stops one thing, he cannot stop everything. The world moves on.

It would also fit with the pattern of abuse society inflicts on women and children, especially institutionalized abuse. Not victim is going to come forward, not every victim becomes a narrative in the media. Thus making serious problems in society harder to notice and account for as long as people don't care to take a serious look at what could be happening around them.

The detectives didn't see the murder and immediately suspect a hero detective from 20 years ago. They were building their own case, but doing a bad job of it, and their suspicions were roused when they started getting reports that this strange guy who turns out to be Cohle was spotted around the crime scene doing his own digging many times over an entire month.

Let me help with some visualization to dispel this stupid theory that Audrey is the victim.

This is a close up of the Lake Charles report when Cohle was looking at it in episode 5. It's zoomed in and super clear for the audience to get a good look at it for a second or two before he closes the file. You can see the victim has a name, there's information on the person, and the filing date was Jan 12. The victim clearly isn't Audrey Hart.

This is the date of Marty's interview - May 1. He was interviewed after Cohle, and Cohle contacted him after his interview, probably on the same day. Maggie was interviewed after Marty was, on another day. Marty contacted Maggie some time after her interview, so it was probably a week or two after Marty's interview when he visited her.

That puts 4 months at least 2 months or more between the murder and Marty visiting Maggie. Not only is the victim not identified as Audrey Hart, but considering how close Maggie is with her daughters, it is impossible to believe that Audrey would be missing for 4 months without her showing any concern. She says that Audrey just had an art show in New Orleans. She's definitely not missing.

Please stop the bad theories, pay attention to the story the show is actually trying to tell, and if people want to make up crazy random ass theories, at least base it on stuff the show is actually suggesting instead of the complete opposite.

i don't think the audrey stuff is going to be tied up nice and neat in this last episode. i think the writer has absolutely told us that she has been impacted by this "cult." however, leaving it the way that it is speaks on marty's failure as a father. all of the signs were there, but he didn't see them. marty never realizing the connection drives that point home even harder.
