Quantity over quality here.......BB and MM may best the best of FX, but the combo of The Shield/Justified/Rescue Me/Archer/Damages/SoA/AHS etc. shows a much longer and much more consistent run of original programming.

The Americans is a quality show.
The Bridge has potential to be great, but needs to work on pacing. Great casting and acting talent for both shows.
Archer, Always Sunny & The League are all way better than Mad Men.
so this may be crazy but I think that marty ex-parent's in law might have some conection and their child the one that makes paintings now saw something strange. And that boat at the end going in the other direction than the car maybe the yellow king is not a person it's a place or something like that. Remember how they said that on the river there's twice the children missing? maybe the put them on the boat and it could be carcosa too? sorry for the english

I agree HBO is head and shoulders above the competition. There was a point I thought AMC would pull close to HBO, but its become clear now they just got lucky snagging BB and MM.

FX pales compared to quality stuff on AMC. Game of Arms tho. Wtf AMC? Going after duck dynasty's hillbilly crowd or what?
The only FX show in the same ballpark as those two is The Shield, but that's been over for 5-6 years.
Louie is amazing stuff though, The Americans is shaping up nicely, and I've heard nothing good things about Justified (I watched the pilot back when it first aired but somehow lost track of the show after that). I think FX has a much brighter future than AMC does, and treats its talent far better too.

"High praise from a bartender". Lots of good lines in this episode and a really good one overall. I do agree with the criticism of the very last scene--it did feel out of place and much too cartoony in relation to how measured everything has been the entire series. This is a small complaint however that doesn't detract from all the good things: Ninja Rust, the powerful "goodbye" between Maggie and Marty, Maggie subsequently "classing up" Rust's joint, the creepy video, Marty doing his detective thing better than Rust ever gave him credit for, and the sad glimpse into their personal lives.

Justified had a season or two (S2 and S4) where it was as good as BB and MM. S5 has been a bit of a comedown, but at its best Justified is on that level.

That's one problem I have with the show. They have been making a big deal about how messed up the guy's face is. The scars are supposed to be instantly noticeable. Yet, the first time you see him in episode 1, his scars are barely visible at all.
I imagine if he was hovering on top of you, inches away from your face, you'd probably have a much clearer view of the scars.

Wait hold on, I'm not annoyed at them not arrested the guys that they don't know about.
Just that scene felt a little corny to me. The cops arguing over each other in the car like little kids. The trope of the cops set upharrasing our protagonists end up unknowingly chatting with the killer, even the way he talked to himself and then hopped on his little lawnmower and started mowing in spirals (really) was a little more silly than creepy.
I just don't like that scene despite loving the episode.

Okay, just saw the preview for the finale. Quick thoughts/conjecture:
Pretty sure that's Rust tied to the bed. Fuck. And who the hell is doing that voice-over at the very beginning? Very refined voice. Has to be the Yellow King. Is that the owner of the bar with the rifle there taking out the sheriff?? Goddamn this is going to be epic.

Totally agree with this. I had the highest hopes for AMC, but it seems like BB and MM were both just lucky gets for them. Walking Dead is a pretty good show, but not on that top-tier level at all. Rubicon had a lot of potential, but of course AMC did the opposite of what their model was supposed to entail. They only gave it 1 season, and due to poor ratings they cancelled it instead of waiting for the prestige to build via Bluray sales, streaming, word of mouth, etc.
FX has a broad range of good shows. It's true that the closest they've come to truly great television is The Shield, but so many of their shows are still way better than average.
For me, I enjoy both.
Mad Men is the best written show since The Wire for me, and there isn't another show on right now that is so rewarding on second, third, etc. watch due to how concisely form follows theme.
Justified is just fun as hell, and the staff completely effortlessly introduces new, compelling characters that feel full-formed instead of playing wholly to archetype.

FX is a better channel than AMC because almost every drama they launch is damn good, plus they have some funny comedies. AMC hasn't launched a truly great show since 1/20/08 when they premiered Breaking Bad. Hell, that was over six years ago.

I won't argue any of these shows are better than Breaking Bad or Mad Men. But they are all shows that were really good/successful. They've had a really consistent track record of having good quality shows on their channel. IMO they are a much better network than AMC. Easily.

Also, if you ever read the interviews with FX's president, the guy just gets it. He always does great interviews and seems to understand how to run a network (unlike AMC).

It's great seeing these two doing police work together again.
Marty, now unencumbered by the reckless addiction to booze and pussy, seems to be holding his own this time, even exploring avenues of detective work that Rust hadn't even explored. I'm comfortable saying this season of True Detective will go down as one of my favorites seasons of television all time if the don't shit the bed Sunday. It's just so rewatchable. You could build an entire series around just Rust, really. I love seeing how he reacts/deals with different situations. Pizzolatto has a huge undertaking trying to follow up on this shit.

I mean, there's a lot more than 1 killer by what that VHS showes so it's not like the lawnmower man is that unique or significant. I felt that last scene was just to reinstate how deep everything goes from top to bottom that even the simple lawnmower man is involved. I don't believe finding him will be the end of the case.

I don't think Dora and the dead women have anything to do with the tape people. These were the Tuttles/extended family ritually sacrificing children. They hide what they do. Like Rust said, Tuttle created tried to have his taskforce take over the case because he recognized something in the scene. Lawnmower Guy/Errol is probably so screwed up by what he saw as a kid, that now he kills women and repeats what he's seen in these rituals. Notice how Rust said "Our man must have had quite a year", when he talks about the missing women in the hurricane. Rust knows that one of these Tuttles/families, is the serial killer he is looking for. This is not one huge conspiracy connecting everything, they kind of stumbled into it while looking for their man.
