Yu Suzuki says he could return to Virtua Fighter and Out Run.

Suzuki is currently finishing development on Shenmue III, his first major release for more than a decade, with publisher Deep Silver, and has indicated he would like to revisit his other franchises too.

Asked if he would like to return to Virtua Fighter and Out Run, Suzuki told VGC: “Yes I would like to [return to those]. If you’re going to ask me what, I can’t answer that!”

Pushed on whether that means he might already be in discussions for the IP, he replied: “Yes, there might be something [happening]. But since the IP you mentioned are owned by Sega, I would need to work with them. I am a special consultant with Sega, but we will need to talk.”

I'm not a fan of shenmue, but sign me up for a new outrun (in the spirit of the original or outrunners).

Sega will say it's not worth the risk and probably not profitable so it'll not happen. :/

Outrun is one of my all-time favorites and I would love a new entry for it. But, I would want it to remain old school.

We certainly need the next generation deformable snow field, VF5 snow field was quite disappointing compared to VF4 on Playstation 2.

VF4.

Please make VF6.

Even if it uses the DOA model of selling a complete and a bare bones version.

Also... Outrun fucking rules. Arcade racers shit all over realistic crap.

I wish Yu GOD Suzuki would look to make a new racer with SEGA. Nobody makes a better racer than Yu Suzuki NOBODY
Well, there is serious competition within Sega. Nagoshi did Daytona, Scud race, Osaki made Daytona 2, Outrun 2, and Sakamoto F-Zero GX.

Honestly, this is porn everywhere at Sega studios 2019.(oh, i forgot Sega Rally 95 director brought Sega World Driver in 2018).

Do it. Suzuki give up VF6. Honestly, I don't even know what a modern Outrun would like. Still I'd like to see him and Sega give it a go.

I would love to see these franchises come back, but how long will they take to develop? We especially need VF6 because there are very few 3D fighters on the market. Also, we need an arcadey Outrun. The simulation, realistic stuff is getting old now imho.

If all he did was rerelease Outrun Online without the Ferrari license I would be really excited. It was one of six games I own on 360 that did not make BC due to licensing issues.

Can you hear that? It's the sound of thousands of SEGA fans sitting to attention all at once.

Give me a new Outrun! I want to go sideways with glorious next gen graphics.

SEGA has so, so many franchises that should be taken off the freezer.

The Switch needs an OutRun. I can imagine myself driving a Testarossa through luscious European landscapes as I get to the daily grind, as a remixed “Passing Breeze” - the quintessential OutRun song - plays in the background.

Ah man... Can you imagine a Virtua Fighter 6 on PS5 / XScarlet running at glorious 60 fps and 4k with ray tracing affecting Dural colors.... 😌

And OutRun 3 with an optional random generator mode for infinites possibilities of track routes😌

they'd rather make 10 meh Yakuza games for some reason. they sell ok. but they don't sell that great either.

I keep saying it...Nvidia should fucking bankroll a new Virtua Fighter, fully ray traced out, some absurd NVLINK setup with the game running at 8k resolution fully ray traced just THROWING resources at the graphics and you might actually have something that would live up to the legacy of the series.

Virtua Fighter games are meant to be years ahead of their time. That's what AM2 games were, basically. "Oh, this is what the average game will look like in 5 years."

Yu Suzuki also did Daytona USA, and Outrun II. I never liked Daytona USA II myself that said I think Outrun 2 2006 is better than that Outrun II. Osaki-san is a racing God too. Still, after all these years Power Drift and Outrun plays like a dream. So wish SEGA AM#2 would make a sequel to Power Drift

This might not be a popular opinion, but I'd like to see Yu try his hand at a VR game. Throughout his career, he has always enjoyed pushing the limits with cutting edge technology, from arcade super scalers (Outrun, Hang On etc), 3D polygons (Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter) and open world (Shenmue). VR seems like a natural progression, being a new type of experience with no set way of how to make a game.

Yep, Suzuki was involved but less than directors of these games. For instance, Daytona was born after Nagoshi saw a Nascar race in the US...
All the developers i mentioned are racing gods and i prefere Daytona 2 over the original :)

Yu was heavily involved in Daytona. Miyamoto-san gets all sort of Credit for various Mario and Zelda games, he's never directed and speaking of Nagoshi-san he gets lots of credit for Yakuza series, despite not being the series director. Sometimes good producers play more of a roll than the Director
