On the differences in Nier said:
Kaine | Half possessed by a demon, she was born a hermaphrodite. When she was young she was often bullied, and began to show off her feminine side more but talks and acts rough like a guy. She wields dual large swords that cut anything in her way.
Nier | The protagonist. He treasures his only daughter, Yonah, greatly. Caught between his kindness and his sense of justice, his concerns over his daughter's illness lead him on his journey.
Nier (Replicant) | The protagonist. A young man who always has a dark expression on his face. He treasures his only blood-related sister, Yonah, greatly. When she becomes ill, he journeys far and wide to find her a cure.
Grimoire Weiss | A talking book who essentially acts as a companion to Nier throughout the game. Nier's magic spells are made possible by Grimoire Weiss who lends his awesome power to Nier. He holds massive knowledge about the world.
No.7 | A skeleton-like creature wearing a robe and wielding an enchanted staff, No. 7 is a demonic experimental weapon that joins Nier and his companions.
Yonah | A child who is treasured by her father/brother. She is a brave little girl who persists for the sake of her father/brother. Born weak by nature, she contracts the deadly Black Scrawl.
