No, Sara is her name. She's posted on here before. She's been responsible for modernizing and updating all of the Steam releases so far.

Ah, I've seen her around I think. Her GAF name is something Protagonist IIRC. Very nice poster/person.

Glad to see an official announcement on Napishtim. I've been playing through the series (mostly) in order since early last year and it's the next one I need to play. I'm actually kinda tempted to give Ys I, II and Felghana a replay while I wait for it. They're all fairly short and I only played them on my Vita, I haven't touched my Steam copies yet.

I also kinda regret getting Akiba's Trip on Vita now. I enjoyed it but I'm not sure I want to double dip. :/

Already looking forward to Ys 6. But this reminds me: Has Sara ever managed to put out that TitS bestiary?

I paid good money for this Dynex!
XSEED twitter made it sound like Ys VI was coming to GOG, but Akiba's Trip wasn't...

Which, I guess, means I'll be buying Ys VI right away and waiting on Akiba's Trip. Assuming the PC port is any good in the first place.

I'm really happy they added warping among checkpoints in Ark of Napishtim. That was my biggest problem with the original PC version (played a fan translation). With that issue resolved in the Steam version, Ys VI should be on par with Origin and Oath of Felghana.

Akiba's Trip marks Xseed's first Steam release that wasn't already a PC game in the first place right? Wonder if they're going to be judging how viable that is based on its' sales.

Kind of wish it was a different game as not too interested in it but it involves stripping people so I'm sure it'll do well enough.

I'm hyped for more Ys. Akiba's Trip however isn't what I'd call a good game. It's a crappy brawler combined with a subpar visual novel.

The XSEED twitter confirmed Ys will be on GOG, but not Akiba. Maybe that'll change in the future, but not at launch.
Acquire's game isn't on PC in Japan, is it? Not sure how the stereotypical excuse for not going DRM-free ("Japanese users would buy it cheaper and then pirate!") would apply here.

The game's divisive it seems, but I bet it'll sell well on Steam. Just mention it has a more open world than other Japanese PC games on the platform and they'll bite...at least some will use it to get a taste of Way of the Samurai, lol.

Ys VI is a great game, and really overlooked as one of the best installments in the series. I'm jealous of anyone who gets to play it for the first time. An awesome experience.

I think we can expect 60 FPS and VSync and a more stable performance than on the Sony systems.

Fantastic news! I'll be picking up both in that case. Was gonna go in on the Vita, but I don't wanna double dip, and encouraging more PC releases is ideal.

awwwwwww ysssssssssss. I am totally in.

just as soon as I get around to playing Celceta, Origins and Felghana, and maybe also the copy of I and II I bought against my better judgement

Wonder if we'll have to wait till Ys 5 gets remade before we see it out here in the west. Seems that that's what it took for Ys IV to come over, though it can be argued that it's the first real Ys IV since falcom didn't develop the other 2 versions.

series is so weird.

As much as I like Akiba's Trip (I had a real blast on the Vita version, one of my favorite games on the system), I'll pass on double-dipping for the PC version, my 5-year-old middle-range laptop is pretty unlikely to run it even decently.

But as for Ys VI, I've been waiting the western PC release for quite some time. Can't wait! Hopefully it will get a GoG release like the other PC Ys titles from XSeed.

Excellent news indeed. Day1 for Ys, and depending on price, I may double dip on Akiba's Trip. If not I will definitely pick it up down the road on a steam sale.

With Gurumin in less than a week and Ys this spring, and SC hopefully sometime, my Falcom hunger may yet be sated for the time being.

Ys Vi?

Sold.

When we're talking Japanese PC ports, you can't necessarily expect the obvious.

Xseed has done a fantastic job on the Ys ports, releasing patches years after release.
Not sure about their other work.

EDIT: Credit to a programmer named Sara, apparently. Many thanks, Sara.

Ys VI has been confirmed for GOG by XSEED's Twitter.

Hidden costs to licensing Super Famicom emulation and Aeon Genesis's patch, combined with the larger part of the Ys fanbase disliking V, means we're gonna need a remake for it to reach us.

Watched some footage of Ys 5 and it looks really nice for an SNES game, shame we couldn't get that particular ver. somehow :p
Then again I want them to add that guitar/rock flare to the OST. Boss theme is nice but I can't help but imagine how good it'd be redone...

It'd be great if we could somehow get a localisation for this one, on Virtual Console.... alas, a brand new PC port is much more likely than that (and chances of that are already low enough), so yeah...

I know there's already a fan translation, but I'd like to give my money to Falcom for the game :)

I know man, it's kinda funny how some Genesis games are on Steam, but none for SNES. Re-releasing of old games on PC/Steam service is something that really needs to be furtherly explored.

For now though, GET HYPE FOR DAT YS!

I know it's not 6 but any excuse to post JDK/Ys music is always worth it in my book :V

Ys V is good alright, but kinda pales in comparison to the other Ys entries. It looks and feels friggin' generic.
It's also insultingly easy and has an absolutely useless magic system.
I'd rather want a full remake or re-imagining of it.

Oh man, if V got the Oath in Felghana treatment...

And yeah, I played only a bit of V, it's alright. Wouldn't recommend it though.

Oh yeah. This has the scantily clad fairy that puts you through the trials. I'm in.

Only the PS2 version has that. That part was added by Konami.

Our version has a whole new gameplay mode, warp features and widescreen instead.

I think it's a fair tradeoff. ;)

Just thought I'd add some extra clarity here: Catastrophe Mode is a separate thing rather than a "difficulty" per se. It is selected after difficulty, and completely eliminates all traces of most of the game's useable items (including the healing items of course). Even the menus in that mode show no real signs that stockable healing items ever existed. You can see a small bit of this in the announcement trailer, as footage from Catastrophe Mode has no sign of the stock item slot.

Enemy drop healing items are used on pick-up in Catastrophe Mode, but that's exactly the same way Oath in Felghana and Origin work, after all. It's just less obvious there, since the items never existed in a menu-useable form there in the first place.

(Edit: Also, Catastrophe Mode has its own leaderboards, before anyone asks.)

The warping system is a "Warp Map" very similar to Oath in Felghana's. I've made the old behavior (only warping out of a dungeon to its entrance) available as a hidden INI option for purists, so hopefully everyone should be happy.

Already looking forward to Ys 6. But this reminds me: Has Sara ever managed to put out that TitS bestiary?

Yup, quite some time back.

...And yeah, I personally don't feel the Konami stuff not being there is a loss. Especially the character models and voice acting. Even the Japanese voice acting was grating to me...

Really looking forward to Ys VI, it's one of two that I haven't played yet. Now a hard decision though. I've done LP's of 1-4 and Yunica's section of Origin already. Do I get going on 5 and get that in before VI comes out to stay in order, or pass on 5 for now and just do VI, then go back to it.

Super excited to play Ys 6! I've always eyed the PSP version but could never pull the trigger on it because I heard the load times were awful.

Hey, Tom. Can you talk about the DLC for Akiba's Trip PC? Will everything be included in the PC release like the PS4 version, or is that stuff going to be cut due to licensing or something? If you can't talking about it that's fine too.

I'm just curious since it wasn't mentioned in press release.

Please XSEED use this for PC release =X

Correct me if I am wrong but Falcom did a retcon for Ys OiF (3) where
the final boss was antagonistic towards the Napishtim or whoever they are? I've not played 6 before but apparently this was added to offer more connections between the games?
