Xenoblade Genesis Announced

2 sucked though. Hell, I would go far enough to say that the first game was by far the best in the series.

I just cannot understand how people like 2 so much with its awful character designs, terrible dialogue and writing, horrible technical performance and really bad UI, especially at release. And let's not forget the stupidity of that gatcha system in SP game.

I will die on this hill! 🧐🧐🧐
The recycled ending of XB2 was bad, too.
That's what Xenoblade is at this point - just recycled anime rubbish.

I bought Switch 2 at launch because I knew this day would come.

Same.

I mean I got it for Bravely Default remaster (good ass game) but mainly for the Xeno series and Animal Crossing and the occasional remaster and or remake.

With Nintendo literally hiking the price, we were not wrong to buy at launch I see lol

Mine is collecting dust right how as I play BF6, Yakuza 3 remake and some other titles, but I don't regret my day 1 purchase. Even if I just end up buying that Star Fox remake, Zelda OoT remake and Xenoblade Genesis.

That is more then enough for me these days. I've sunset so many Nintendo IP, I just play a handful now days lol

It was okish, but the story writing is basically all generic anime and fanfic writing outside of the first one, which fell into that the later half.
Three was the worst offender though to the point of being amateur. Lots of Captain Planet moments where characters call out things that are happening that are very obvious and don't need to be said I thought he ending was better than 2 though overall.

This game has been in the making for a long time, so It would hardly push NS2 visuals too much since it was born as a Switch 1 game (as it happened with all 1st party games up to this point I'd say...)

The good news is that it will probaly run well from the get go unlike the previous Xenoblades.

I've never played the Xenoblade series, but it seems like the Switch 2 will be perfect to start playing it.
Be prepared to set aside 350 hours of your life (and by my count $270 to buy the three mainline games, two expansion passes, and three Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade packs) to play the three mainline games, an epilogue, and two expansions needed to see the entire story, but it's peak.

No need to buy the games separately + upgrade packs. Just buy the Switch 2 versions when they get released

This is the kind of world I missed in 3. I assume we'll get sci fy, but I don't mind getting a more fantasy approach. I find it quite refreshing.

I also like the more "artwork" look of it.

The point is that you haven't actually addressed any of the things I said. It's fine to like trashy games but let's not make Xeno 2 anything more than that.

🗻💀🧐

Not really, I'm just too lazy to type up why XC2 is my favorite in the franchise

I love how distinct each character is and to this day I remember most of them especially the cast. I choose Mythra on my first playthrough. My favorite will always be Torah and Poppi. I love how everyone dunks on each other. Even Morag isn't immune to being dunked on. That whole cast felt like they were always good friends. The story was fantastic and some good emotional highs. I love how goofy the cast could get but the game had it's serious moments

The characters designs were really unique and I still remember what they look like. The dialogue was great too, had a lot of funny moments mixed in with good dramatic moments

The UI was easy for me to navigate

Gameplay wise the battle system is fantastic and once it clicked with me I was able to actually beat enemies/bosses faster

I was fine with the Gacha mechanic and the way you leveled up the Blades was interesting and unique

Also

Meh Meh

I won't ever understand liking the writing, characters and dialogue in this game, but I am glad you and other folks like it.

Every game doesn't have to be for everyone. As an example, I know plenty of people find something like Kingdom Come Deliverance boring with bad combat but I love the shit out of that game.

That's fine but I love goofy ass anime stuff 🤪

One of my favorite moments in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is when you are doing a sidequest involving that gangster Nopon and there's a whole scene where that Nopon and his son run on this massive hamster wheel at the end and comment on how much they enjoy doing this

Stuff like this is why I find the game super memorable, humorous and great

Let's talk about Gnosticism, Jungian psychology and existential Nihilism, and how that is used to meaningfully enhance the world and character arcs in XB2.

one of them even has an animation where he starts to fall behind on the hamster wheel and has to rush really hard to not fall off

I disagreed on him especially on how he thinks the game is super shallow when the game touched on those themes you mentioned a lot like in all the other Xeno games

Especially since I always found the shadow self that Jung always talks about to be especially interesting to read about

one of them even has an animation where he starts to fall behind on the hamster wheel and has to rush really hard to not fall off

Yeah I remember, that's what made the scene particularly memorable and hilarious

I usually only play turn based jrpgs and strategy rpgs, but xenoblade series is the one exception. It's so damn good. Will be replaying all of them on Switch 2 and Genesis will be Day 1.

I was rewatching the trailer for Xenoblade Genesis and I'm happy with how unique the world once again looks. As some other poster said on here, it looks like it was inspired by Rendezvous With Rama book. Which I loved. It definitely is a graphical showcase for the Switch 2 hardware. I wonder how we are gonna to traverse the world when the world looks like that. It just looked so unique to me

I LOVE the character art designs on this one
Same, I don't care what anyone says I love character designs here.

The eyes are awesome. It looks like they stepped it up from Xenoblade 3

Yeah they did really great job here.

Also I think Takahashi fellow Utena fan. Her hair style, her uniform and even her sword very much Utena. I think thats what they were going for her design.

I'll just never get how some folks will rightfully bash e.g. Marvel-style writing, but they will defend corny shounen slop like Xenoblade to the death. There's stuff in these games that makes even the worst MCU trash look like Citizen Kane in comparison.

Like, there are at least a few scenes in XC2 where you're surrounded by enemies, and they all just stand there patiently while your party has a 5 minute conversation, planning out some overly complex long-shot strategy, all within earshot of the enemy. It's so dumb it ruins the immersion.

I still enjoy these games despite this shit, but they could be so much better if they went for some halfway decent writing, direction, and editing. FFS have some standards. You don't need to shield your JRPGs from criticism like you're defending the honor of Japan.

Or maybe you could look below the surface and try to explore what these games are actually trying to tell you. This applies even more to XB2 specifically, where its themes are not bashed over you head but you have to pay attention because the writers trust you to close the gaps and understand the character arcs in the context of the story/world.

These are also 100+ hours games, you can't expect every scene to be directed like the A cutscenes, which are all mocapped and directed extremely well, especially in XB2 and even more in XB3.

I think JRPGs are just not for you, the writing style of Japanese games will never be like Western games and thank god for that.
