It takes forever to start and between each title screen there's a one minute+ black screen loading. I tried making my DVD drive go faster but it doesn't seem to work. Any idea? Maybe there's something like that cd taping solution?

Take it back to the store for an exchange. If it happens again, it's your PS2.

Alternately, take it to a friend's and try it on their system. Decide what to do upon the results of that test.
