Updated XBOX Console Prices

I remember getting my Series X for $350 at Target back 2.5 years ago, because nobody wanted them.

How did we end up here?

Well, I know how. But it's still stupid.

They weren't lying nor joking when they said this. They were foretelling.

From airline prices, concert and sporting events, etc.. etc..

Not for the peasantry, only the the Capital Families.

Welfs disgust me

Outside of the US (and UK?), it's been impossible to find either the Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X for a year now. Only a few stores or retailers offer it, and even then, they have waiting lists. Not even the official Xbox store has any consoles available. However, Xbox ROG Ally consoles are available on retailers.

Basically, the stock they manufacture is allocated to the US and UK(?).

Stock hasn't even been great in the US. At least, not in my neck of the woods. Shipments seem sporadic, and it's like 1 or 2 units at a time.

So I was wrong....

It's not the second price hike, it's the third one in the last 15 months

Yeah they did a $80/$100 bump in May 2025:

Then another $20-$50-$70 bump in October 2025:

And just like that, we have truly entered the Dark Ages of gaming.

It's just gonna get worse from here on out, boys.

1,000,000% Agree. It's over. :(

I think it's more in response to Steam Machine pricing.

They most certainly will. Just depends if it's before or after GTA VI release.

Sony seems to be 6-8 months behind Xbox with the price increases. So I'm assuming they may hike the prices January 2027.

I am starting to really worry about the situation… Things are not looking good at all. And i don't see any solution in the horizon. If the consoles makers don't sell consoles the business is going to become unsustainable for everybody, including the game makers.

Man gaming is cooked dude. It's over. At least in the form that we've grown up in it. These hardware prices are killing everything!

By far the worst console generation.

I bought my son a Used series X off of facebook for $125 and that has worked great for him. Seems like a steal now.
What?

I sold my Series S für 100€ and that was already way to cheap 3 years ago. I wanted to be nice and give someone a nice holiday present.
But who sold a Series X for $125?

FYI Apple with even all their software driving profits officially called the flash memory crisis "unsustainable"

I was just thinking about this. People are crazy if they do t think Sony and Nintendo are going to do the same thing.

Hell, you guys might want to start thinking about buying that car or replacing that old ac unit as well. It's going to get like COVID again in regards to tech components.

Asha is listening. Asha cares. The higher the price now, the more she can drop them during the holidays. HO HO HO 🎅
If they are expecting memory costs to double again in 2027 I'm sure this won't be their last price increase. They have zero leverage for console production qty discounts when they are selling less than maybe 1 million units per year now, versus PS5 at 16 million and Switch 2 at nearly 20 million 1st year.

Just a reminder that MS themselves caused this with their insistence on AI slop and openAI. Their behavior and their comrade Nvidia is why they have to rise prices on their own Xboxes.

They are more to blame than anyone else.

I like to see all of this as a correction for the industry. We'll enter a golden age of gaming after the current storm.

All for fancy predictive text and videos of cats playing drums. I have major reservations regarding the chances that we are going to get the Helix device, as originally envisioned.

Yes, but they don't give a fuck about consoles...

So these hikes serve a clear purpose: discontinue a useless product as fast as possible

MS is done with game consoles

I'd be surprised if anyone was surprised!

Until ram and memory chips are over made then I expect more increases on everything.

Of course. Right. There is no other world power invested in an AI race in another part of the world...

In Microsoft's defense they abandoned their core xbox gamers many years ago when they decided to focus on casuals, tv tv tv and AI as the next billion person addressable market.

For sure. I was just joking because we know Asha is always listening. I am glad she has gone silent but if she starts putting out PR bullshit when she thinks this has all blown over I am going to lose respect for her.

Board games and people talking to actual people will be the new hotness in 2026 and 2027.
I think I spend more time in my Arcade1Up "MAMERoom" now more than playing current-year games. I just got the Mini-PC mod for my Star Wars cab, so I see me and family only spending more time in there.

I can't wait for the documentary on this generation in years to come
You know, that will be interesting. "When Gaming Changed."

Needless accusations. Banned from thread

Effective August 1, 2026, we will be updating prices worldwide. The price of XBOX consoles will increase by US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models. We will also be sunsetting our 2 TB model.

Last October, we increased XBOX console price by $20-$70 in the U.S. We hoped another price increase would not be necessary, and we have spent the last several months working with suppliers on options. Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027. The entire consumer electronics industry is struggling with the current components crisis, but the effects are particularly hard on consoles. Unlike phones, computers, speakers, and other consumer devices, consoles are typically not sold at a profit, but instead for less than they cost to make.

Today we are also sharing programs to make XBOX consoles more accessible:

  • Buy Now, Pay Later: We've made it easier for players to use Buy Now, Pay Later options on eligible XBOX hardware purchases through Microsoft Stores, making it possible to break up your payment into predictable short-term, interest-free installments.
  • Interest Free Financing: Players purchasing eligible XBOX hardware through Amazon can take advantage of 0% APR financing for up to 12 months, giving players more flexibility with lower monthly payments and more budgeting control.
  • Previously Played Consoles: We are working with retail partners on new programs to provide previously played consoles at lower prices. Players who are ready to upgrade or no longer use their console will be able to trade it in with participating retail partners for cash or store credit. Those consoles will then be made available at lower prices for players.
  • Certified Refurbished Consoles: XBOX Certified Refurbished Consoles are available at Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP.
XBOX Series S remains the lowest-cost way for console players to enjoy the biggest hits this year, including Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Gears of War: E-Day, Grand Theft Auto VI, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Madden NFL 27.

New Prices would be:
Xbox Series S 512GB: $399 --> $499
'Xbox Series S 1TB: $449 --> $599
Xbox Series X 1TB: $649 --> $800
Xbox Series X 1TB Digital: $599 --> $750
LIARS like K KeplerL2 told you it won't happen.

The consoles will launch under DOUBLE Current memory/storage prices. The memory price correction will leave no survivors.

MLID/Kepler/AMDUB: PLEASE KEEP TALKING about how 36GB (or 30GB) Ultra Premium High Bin GDDR7-32Gbps is going to be the standard for a mainstream console now.

PS6 will either be a PS5 Pro Max Ultra or it's not launching this decade in high quantities. the party is over.

The only refuge for Gamers is GeForce. Under Jensen's wisdom every SKU is heavy on performance and light on commodity baggage. Jensen is also the number 1 memory customer (more than 20% of global memory demand is Jensen) and thus is treated like royalty by the cartel.

That's how the RTX 5060 Provides the performance of the PS5 pro with the feature set of PS6 and costs only 339$!
