The trailer makes it sound good, but the playable demo was your character in the middle of all those enemies just doing combos. I've seen a video of it and...Eh. It's technically impressive, but it doesn't look all that fun. I'm not sure why so many next gen developers think its going to be fun either.

After watching all of the interviews and extensive video coverage of Xbox 360 games I think it's clear that it dominated the show overall with games like GoW, Kameo, Dead Rising, PGR3, DOA4 being played by the media in private and impressing. PS3 had the most exciting trailer with MGS4, but the fact that there were no playable PS3 games and there really weren't any PS3 games shown was very disappointing. It doesn't seem like the PS3 is ready to launch in the first half of 2006 at all. Outside of MGS4 PS3 didn't have much of a presence at TGS. I think DS and PSP both had uninspiring showings, the PSP was a little better, but not by much. Revolution controller was exciting and very interesting, but again without any actual games being playable it's hard to know what to expect and it seems like the launch is very far away.

The lack of anything in striking distance of MGS4 for Microsoft, again.

Not only was the framerate bad (I'd say it could have dropped even lower actually), but the models and textures were crap. As a cherry on the cake, the game had HUGE collision detection issues (I mean WTF - not seen such on a show floor in ages). I actually witnessed three of the pods simultaneously having

1. Car driving through wall
2. Car getting stuck in the middle of the fence
3. Car dropping through the ground

People were pointing fingers and laughing - myself included. And I had the worst hangover, so making me laugh was not easy.

I could have sweared Titus had something to do with the game.

Why would you even show that? Or can developers really convince themself that no one will notice glitches like that?

I know! I was so fucking bummed about the 360 showing when I left the show to airport - I've been really having high hopes, but the early launch / late kits combo is really hurting Microsoft. Meanwhile, Sony had yet another excellent show. They master good PR, whereas MS is a textbook example of bad PR.

Luckily the taxi had AC and I got to surf GAF on my Nokia to read the Revolution controller thread, so the day wasn't completely ruined.

Yeah. It was a pretty eventful week all in all, but not without disappointments. The thing that surprised me most is that XBX360 didn't show Blue Dragon. I mean, that's the game with the most hype on that platform for Japanese gamers. Just seems like TGS was a big ol' missed opportunity for Microsoft, ya know? I can't believe that after like three different major shows/events we're still saying this. X05 should be one hell of a show, at least.
