Can't wait to play the game on PC in native 4K. Hopefully TLOU port will be way better than Legacy Collection.

Also most of these screenshots are comparing cut scenes, which were pre-rendered in engine, vs real-time in TLoU Part I which is again even more of an impressive feat.

Well, not most, but yeah, I already posted about pre-rendered PS3 cut-scenes which were recodred on video, put into the game as video files and were not changed at all for PS4 version - still using the same video files. As for TLOU remake, wheter they're actually in real-time I can't say fure sure yet, but some cut-scenes are in real-time cuz you can not only turn on or off DOF, but also change camera position. Also, in some cut-scenes weapons you cary are visable, while during others not visable. Only NG+ with alternative costumes can reveal the truth - I'll check and post about my finding on that later:messenger_relieved:

In some of these shots they've changed lighting not for the better. In the example above Ellie blends in with the background and the focus almost goes to the (brighter) outside of the windows. I didn't see this moving, so maybe she steps into the light or something, but there are some more examples of this in the screenshots.
Maybe now that they have a better lighting system they removed some of the hand placed lights on objects and unintentionally shifted visual focus.

I have mixed feelings about the change in tone, art design etc...

In some pictures the remaster looks better, with a more degraded, less refined approach by the designers which suits the world better than a very clean, high fidelity contrast.

Idk, I see no problems here, but let me explain. They've opted for DOF effect more heavily and both shots are comparable when it comes to lighting conditions, minus the fact that TLOU remake technically on a whole other level. There's clearly dark shadow behind Ellie there so she's not blending with the environment like you've said. The problem overall is that they should've also made the interior of the structure more darker as well as using DOF. Idk what were they thinking here but we should also keep in mind that there is no RT effects in the game of any kind, but the game is already pushing PS5 hard cuz it is not running the game in native 4K and adding to that RTGI will inevitably downgrade the game visually in other visual aspects such as shadow quality, foliage density etc. Also, as well as in TLOU2, they've decided to go for more natural and sobdued lighting conditions which is very hard to do right in raster, so of course it won't be perfect without RTGI. I'd say they've done a massive job when it comes to improving lighting, just look at this shot for example:
yTDJynV.jpg
There's no way any of this could be achievable on PS4 Pro even. I haven't noticed any light leaking anywhere btw, but obviously without RTGI not every shot will be perfect :)

Some shots are with Vivid color filter, the game does not look this colorful at all. As for art design, Idk how adding more details and imroving art design massively can hurt the game, especially considering how bad original game and PS4 version looks right now in comparison to I'd say 90% of TLOU remake, while other 10% still looks good (the whole "Fall" and "Spring" part of the game for example).

Oh, btw, they've blocked this part of this location in remake, so there's no shots of it I can make:

Well, because adding stuff is not always making some better and "improving" is a subjective opinion, as we've already established I think in some cases the remaster looks better.

I do agree that, in some instances, the newer game does look better.

But, that could be because they were limited before or because they have different people doing the work now and they have a different perspective or are just simply more talented.

For me, everything looks a bit too bright and saturated in the new version and the game world is one of degradation, of a broken society, and the darker, more sombre tone added to the atmosphere.

It's just my opinion.

I didn't say better, I've said 10% of original game still looks good today.

I think with this Remake they've done everything they wanted to make in the first place back in 2013, but could't due to hardware limitations. TLOU remake now looks in line with TLOU2 when it comes to world-building, environmental story-telling etc. etc. and on the same level of quality + they've added some stuff to connect the two games better, small stuff, but it doesn't feel out of place, quite contrary actually.

I knew right away after seeing completely remade cut-scenes from TLOU in TLOU2, that they will be making a remake, cuz your not going to put so much effort and work to remake the whole scenes for the new game on a new engine and call it a day. I'm sure that TLOU remake was on the cards even during TLOU2 development.

Not a lot of studios getting a chance to improve their previous work so much, and yes, I think remake plays better and feels better to play as well, even though it's not a massive improvement like TLOU2 is from gameplay perspective.
It's just my opinion.
And it's totally fine. I just don't agree with some of your complains :)

Part1 lacked so many details that were in the original.

Joel could kick doors open (when pressing L1 + triangle) in the remake he does not.

There are so many other details that didn’t make it in the remake it’s sad to see ND overlooking that, especially considering their reputation for attention to detail.

I got this for $40 and Im loving it even though I completed the game 3 times on PS3/4. Stuff looks fresh and it just reminded me how good the story is. Is it a step above the Remaster? Absolutely. But for $70, nah. They really messed up the pricing for this one. Instead that became the main talking point before release instead of talking about the actual upgrades.

You said that, in your opinion, they had been successful in "improving (the) art design "massively".

That means you think it was better, doesn't it?

I appreciate you are fine with me having a different opinion, that's good of you.

Original game looks like a PS2 game right now in comparisons. Literally 100% of the art and assets in PS5 remake was remade completely to bring it more in line with TLOU2 standards of quality and even better cuz remake was made only for PS5.

I don't agree with you at all that they've killed the atmoshere, the mood and all that. I think they did what need to be done for PS5 remake - make the game meet TLOU2 standard of quality in every aspect except gameplay and some animations (althoug here they could've done a better job - at least polished animations). I've played both games and have zero complaints when it comes to art, art-design, atmosphere, mood etc. They did and made all that miles better while also staying true to original core design.

I guess if your complaining about all this, than you also must complain about TLOU2, cuz that game looks miles better than original TLOU too and have almost the same exact changes to lighting, mood etc. cuz of way better tech etc.

It's not like we're in russian telegram chat where everyone hates Sony games, don't like you at all and always shit on what you do or post. At least hear we can have civilized arguments and conversation, even if we don't agree with each others opinions on something. That's what makes people from Europe and other western countries better - they're more civilized and you can talk to them without turning everything to shit. I'm no saying all russian people are so bad, but I'd rather talk with you than with them:messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

I mean, i still don't entirely agree - though, to be fair, I have never really said the remake isn't better and isn't the definitive edition.

My point was simply that, in some of the images, I feel like the art style, art design, and the lighting etc...felt more grounded and rugged in the remaster, as a game set in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event should - as it didn't seem to have the polish and is without the brightly coloured, saturated, cleaner version offered by the newer version.

But, that's just my perspective.

However, I think we can both agree that the remake is beautiful and is the best version.

I get what you're saying and it was state of the art back then, but I see everything ND did for the remake as a way better realisation of their original ideas. I bet if they'd had more time, they would've completely changed how the game plays for the better, maybe even changed design of it but not too much to take the cake from TLOU2. I can't see myself playing original game anymore and I will always have it in my collection.

The only thing I don't like about the remake is that they didn't incorporated Left Behind into the main narative as it should've been, so just like with the original game, you always have to stop at the beginning of Winter, play Left Behind and then continue playing the main game cuz that's the right order narratively.

But, that's just my perspective.

However, I think we can both agree that the remake is beautiful and is the best version.
For sure, though it is not polished enough like TLOU2, I already posted about it here. Hopefully they'll release new update alongside the PC version with fixes and improvements, cuz the game sure as hell needs them.
