The Official NeoGAF "Introduce Yourself" Thread

Hi everyone ! Feels very weird to finally join the fun after all those years lurking in the shadows ^^

Member from France (yé, I know "Hon hon hon", "Camenbeh", "Le Moulin wouge", you know the drill). Working in the interwebs, as a front-end dev.

Lurking since early 2017, just before the infamous split. And maaaan, those times were haaarsh ! I'm glad the craziness has moved elsewhere, as the overall bitterness and toxic environment was taking its toll on me.

After a few great threads by some members as of late, I felt compelled to register in order to give them my earnest thanks. I also would like to join in on some fun debates with you all, and give my own two cents about what's going on in gaming right now.

I'm very much a Japanese-centric gamer, big into Nintendo and Atlus when it comes to modern stuff (#SMT5WHEN). Right now though, I'm going through a big retrogaming phase. Dreamcast European 20th anniversary and Saturn Japanese 25th anniversary are right around the corner, and I'm collecting a lot of their games right now. Easily Sega's creative peak imo.

I'm not going to be the most active member here, but I still hope I'm gonna make a positive contribution to the forum :messenger_smiling_with_eyes: See ya soon ! :messenger_fistbump:

Sup people. Came here from the "other" site. I just couldn't stand it anymore with all their SJW BS and intolerance for anyone who isn't as woke as they are. I hope I'll have more freedom here to express my opinions, even if it's not the popular opinion.

Hey everyone,

After several years of following the forum daily for news and discussions -- Neogaf is one of my primary news sources I might add -- and finally being approved, I've decided at last to introduce myself.

I'm a Brazilian from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro (city on the opposite side of the Guanabara bay from Rio) and gaming is one my biggest passions and favorite entertainment medium. I also love movies and TV series, but games are unique due to their interactivity thus adding a level of immersion and enjoyment other mediums can't match.

I've always been a huge PlayStation fan since the beginning in the PS1 days when I was a kid and own all consoles to date, including the portables. They all stand on my desk beside one another. My favorite games are AAA single player experiences with huge production values and attention to detail. Obviously gameplay and design are the core and foundation but I always take into consideration all elements as a whole -- story, characters, acting / VO quality, narrative, lore, setting, graphics, animations, audio design etc. Audio is something absolutely huge for me, just as much the graphics -- like both sides of the same coin. For me nothing matches the gaming experience of enjoying an AAA single player game I've waited for years completely immersed in its world with a big TV and extremely loud quality surround sound.

I also really value developers that take risks in trying something new, to break some new ground or to just try to shake things up a bit, even if it doesn't work out as well as planned, rather than devs that just keep making the same old market tested and safe formula over and over again.

There's a ton of talent and great games in the industry, with a lot more to look up to, specially with the next gen on the horizon, but, also, unfortunately, there's always bad things that come along with progress and some of the worst offenders, in my opinion, are microtransactions, P2W, glorified gambling mechanics, GaaS and everything related that are fucking cancers to the medium. As immersive and focused single player [non open word] games don't mix well with those "business models" I fear they will become more scarce going forward.

Some of my favorite games / IPs are:
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Uncharted
  • God of War
  • The Last of Us
  • Batman: Arkham
  • Ratchet & Clank
  • Mass Effect
  • Tomb Raider (reboot games)
  • Gears of War
Since the beginning of the this gen I've been way more selective of the games I play in an effort to try and stop drowning in my backlog and ending up wasting time in games that are not that great, specially having fewer time to play nowadays. As a platinum trophy addicted in addition to love to squeeze every drop of content of every game I play, it's crucial to try and stay focused. For a few years now I've played way more backlog games than new games. Some of the most notable games of this gen I still haven't played are The Witcher 3, Spider-Man and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Do you play shmups? The French scene is much bigger than here in the US. For instance, there's always a major showing at Stunfest and France has some of the most prolific non-Japanese shmup site and some of the coolest english-speaking shmup members in the world (shmup.com and it's subdomain hiscores.shmup.com, for instance)

Hi Dundun, glad to see you ! And sorry for the late reply.

Indeed the shmup community here is fairly big (by US standards) and passionate. I remember watching - on French cable TV no less - some impressive runs by fellow french players on Dodonpachi and Radiant a few years back. Heck, I even remember watching someone mastering DoDonPachi with a freaking Guitar Hero controller !

I'm still a pretty casual shmup fan since my interest in the genre is fairly recent, but I played a few of them : Musha Aleste and Thunderforce IV on the MD, Soukyugurentai (very underrated !) and Thunderforce V on the Saturn. I also bought Ikaruga on the Switch and Radiant on XBLA. I'm now looking for Gigawing, Mars Matrix, Gradius V and eventually gonna delve into some good ol' Cave Bullet Hell once my training will be finished. I love those games more and more over time, and certainly regret I haven't checked them out before. There's a lot of catching up to do !

Never been at Stunfest unfortunately (it's in Rennes which is pretty far from Paris). My cousin is a regular though and loves going there each year. I suppose I'm gonna join him at some point, with some of my more passionate friends. Seems like a very good time indeed. :messenger_weary::messenger_ok:

Long time lurker finally able to join you all here!
Email restrictions kept me out, as I've always been self employed and didn't have access to anything other than free email accounts.
I've been visiting almost daily since the early 2000's as my main source of gaming news, (even more of late due to the decline of video game journalism)
Anyway, I'm in my 40's from the UK, I've always been into gaming since my first computer (Commodore 16) I've owned most consoles over the years, being mostly a Nintendo fan growing up, also spent many great years with my Amiga. I currently have a gaming PC, Xbox One and a few retro consoles. I'm also a member of Retro Game Boards (same user name) glad to be part of the neogaf community.
 
Hey everybody, my name is Billy (obviously haha) and I'm going to be building a computer set up soon to start streaming. I'm 30 years old and been gaming since I got an N64 for Christmas....I've been hooked since. I'm not new to forums (been on a couple car ones) and I hope I can eventually be made an official member. Until then I'll be around here searching stuff, asking questions and hopefully find some cool people to game with.

Right now the gaming set up is an xbox1 (BillyTheKid88) and PS4 Pro (BillyTheKid1188) but I want to broaden my horizons and get back into PC gaming. I haven't played on a PC since battlefield 1942 and I had a 512 mb graphics card! haha

Anyways, just a normal gaming guy here married with a wife just bought a house a year ago and I'm tired of the 8-5 grind and I need to pursue something I'm interested in instead of just chasing the money. I'd love to be a full time streamer/gamer so that's what I'm working towards.

You have a great taste in shmups! Don't hesitate to brighten up the Shmup OT if you are so inclined. I tend to drop news there, too, since most shmup announcements are too obscure to warrant their own thread.

Hey! I came over to this forum once I realized that my home forum has been dying and the site's culture has been actively shifting for the worse. I came to the Gaf after hearing about how it has improved since the early days and how most of the problem users shifted you-know-where. I am from Russia (yes, we are not all "SUKA BLYAT" Dota 2 players lol) and I am very actively interested in most things that are indie. I can sperg about roguelites for hours to come! Other than that I like Nintendo, RPG's, high-skill platformers, and sandboxes with an actual goal like Terraria. I am a big fan of alternative music. I am also a very, VERY amateur pixel artist as you can tell from my avatar. Hope I can stick around! 😎 Sorry that my post isn't as big as the others in this thread :P

Hello everyone!!! My name is Solomeena....i just wanted to introduce myself because it seems so cool to do so.

My hobbies include: Picking the lint off your sweater(i am really anal about lint), trying to count all the individual lights in the ceiling at places like Target, Walmart, any big or medium size retailer( It is so cool to know things like this, i feel accomplished) and last but not least flinging scissors in the air twirling around really fast and trying to catch it by the handle and not stabbing myself with the pointy end(i am actually quite good at doing this, go me!).

I really am not a bad person, some people may not like me but i like to think i can have a great conversation when i am not introverted!
 
Hey I'm Frank, rastaballs is my online name (named after silicone containers I would keep various concentrates in not…something…else.) I live on a farm in rural North Texas and I'm pretty new to the internet. My interests include games (JRPGS, multiplayer shooters, diablo style RPGS) Comics/Manga/Anime (I pretty much just exclusively read Image Comics stuff and shonen/seinen manga, Mobile Suit Gundam and One Piece are some of my fav titles) and making and listening to music (I make ambient music under my full name "Timothy Allen Huntsman" and atmospheric black metal under the name "Matum."

I'm English and mostly play on PC. Strategy games, RPGs and shooters are my shit, but I'll dip my toe into almost anything.

Thanks, irmão! MGS has always been my favorite IP by very, very far and I'm absolutely crazy about it. Not only because it's unique, revolutionized the industry and everything else every fan knows, it was the game that had opened and blew my mind as a kid by showing me how so much more gaming could be.

Furthermore the MGS games made love English and basically was responsible for me to learn the language. Needless to say, with English being the world's universal language, learning it opened up a whole new world for me in all aspects -- education, access to information, interacting with people from other countries and cultures, being able to truly appreciate games, movies and pop culture in general the way they were meant to, just to name a few -- so it's much, much more than just a game for me.

Recently I've renovated my room and my great artist friend made this awesome 1m x 1m (3.3ft x 3.3ft) MGS painting for me.

I tend to play alot of RPGs and open world games, but other than ultra realistic sim stuff, I'm willing to try any game at least once.

I love your passion! I'm not an English native speaker too but had to learn it because it's the worlds #1 spoken language

I don't regret learning it and speaking English fluently because it eased a lot of stuff for me especially my aviation studies

RESPECT to you friend for that legendary drawing. That's straight up Yoji Shinkawa greatness!

My first game is a "punk Narrative Shoot-them-up" called "Gaijin Charenji 1 : Kiss or Kill".
I'm french and I prefer kiss than kill.
 
Hey everyone, I've been lurking for a while now so I thought it was finally time to introduce myself. I'm a Police Inspector from Peshawar, Pakistan and my interest in gaming started in the late 90s thanks to Arcades. The first 50 or so titles that I played were all arcade titles mostly on the Neo-Geo along with a few Capcom and Konami games. Later on in 2006 my best friend gave me his PS2 as a birthday present along with all the PSX/PS2 titles he had (some of which turned out to be really amazing). I'm still catching up on all the different titles I missed out on thanks to emulation and backwards compatibility.

After dropping out for a while because of being in my mandatory army service here in my country I went back to gaf and realised I could register a lot easier than before so I did! I've been looking for a gaming related community to talk and play games with other people so that's great. I guess I'll tell ya some of my favorite games/franchises as well!

It includes:
Sly Cooper
Metal Gear Solid
Splinter Cell
Hitman
Ghost Recon
UFC
Persona 5
Yakuza
Wolfenstein

And while weird to say I'm sure I'm forgetting something because every time I think of favorite games I always forget everything.

Been lurking gaf on and off for what seems like almost a decade mostly for gaming news.
I tried signing up years ago, but it seemed like it was nigh impossible to get in unless you knew somebody or had an email account on the "right" domain (or some prestigious one).

I love gaming on handheld devices and PC. Toying with gamedev related programming has always been a hobby and close to heart.

Hey guys.

Have been lurking like, for ever lol, and finally joined. Just a normal guy who loves videogames.

I do like when new consoles are about to launch, and all the threads about specs, crazy pastbins and so on. It is a great community, and i always look here before anything else when it is about videogames.
