The Official Halo 3 Thread

Victory laps should be rare and beautiful things and only deployed when the other team merit such humiliation. This could be because of excessive trash talk, brashness or over confidence after getting the first cap or general lame behavior like using button glitches and/or superbounces in Halo 2.

Overly frequent deployment of the victory lap, especially because your team just got lucky and got 2 quick caps and/or matched against a team of noobs ultimately devalues the concept and is therefore, lame.

Just my 2p

People sure are getting their panties all sticky and shitty.

A Victory Lap as successful as the ones in Coco's pictures (Where actually only 2 games are portrayed) do not happen very often. When we are in the lead and attempt to organize a "victory parade", we usually only get a lap or two out and then we get ambushed or sabotaged. If you look at all of the games we've played, a small percentage of them contain truly abusive Victory Laps.

Furthermore, we do not hide with the flag. We parade with it and give you the option of killing us at any time (Which most people do!)

If you see a bunch of us standing on top of Sandtrap like this, what would you do?

Probably this:

It's not like we're hiding.

And if you're on the losing team: You already lost, have some fun. If you stop coming after us, we will just Cap the flag and end the game, we're not gonna sit there and wait if the other team isn't playing. And if you can't spare the extra 3-5minutes of goofing around, then the -2XP for quitting shouldn't be too much of a penalty for your busy, time-sensitive ass.

P.S. Welcome Sharpe :D

You have to experience it to understand, guys. Look at those pictures. Look at the first one. Take a moment to think about the fact that those pictures are from real games played in Matchmaking. It's like a work of art, guys. It transcends lameness. Doing laps around the map - and taking time to stop, get out, and walk back up to the flag spawn point at the enemy base to do a little dance - it's not something that can be classified as lame or mean. Every lap completed is like a brushstroke in a gorgeous painting. Every ally taking up a position at our base is like a brick in a beautiful cathedral.

Anyway, it leads to some awesome moments for the other team every once in a while. One time, on Sandtrap, we were all lined up on that high ridge and an enemy hit us with a rocket and killed all of us. He got a Killtrocity or whatever comes with killing eight people.
I think it's funny! There's effort put into this. I'd laugh if I were on the receiving end.
Also: depends on how the Paraders behave though, if they talk trash and act douchebags it's annoying...if they're good spirited it's all fun.

I gotta admit I think the victory lap pictures are hilarious, but I have an inner griefing streak I try not to indulge except in exigent circumstances (i.e. other team are irredeemable douchebags).

There's definitely comedy there and as long as it isn't intentionally frustrating for the other team, I can get down with it. I have on more than one occasion stripped the flag from the hands of a teammate in order to score it and end a game. In one particular game (Halo 2) a small group of guys were making such a go of being uncompromising assholes of the highest order, that I did it twice. They were not happy.

So, Spirit of Fun where the other team isn't a bunch of guests over at a buddy's house left never want to touch Halo 3 again: funny. Buncha 40's and up prolonging the suck and frustration for low ranked players and guests: Supa Lame Weaksauce Griefing.

Also, my downstairs area is doing a-ok if anyone is wondering.

I wonder about your downstairs area every day, and it's comforting to know it's not in any immediate danger.

Wait does this have anything to do with those crazy storms last night?

Yeah, that was pretty nuts. 75 degrees in January makes for some violence at night. I was out walking my dog just as it all started building up and saw the largest, most violent lightning strike I have ever witnessed. Thing just hung in the sky like a massive, vibrant pane of shattered glass and then shook the hell out of everything. Insane.

At least there weren't any tornadoes in our neck of the woods.

In hopes of not straying too OT, let me add that a tornado in the background of a multiplayer map would be epic.

I should have been there to hold you. I'm sorry.

:lolOH MAN! :lol The guy who did Master Chief sucks at Halo 3 made a new series based off the same Chief from those episodes. It's called "Arby n' Chief: Episode 1" and it has a lot of funny stuff. I love it. :lol :lol

That opening dream sequence is some of the most beautiful machinima I've ever seen. Very well done. I'll have to watch more of the series as it comes out.

Trust me, we're very excited about ranked BTB. We speculate every night about when it'll be out.

same here. I would rather play a BTB game that was close all the way to the end than play with a bunch of guest parties that hump your corpse.

I'm looking forward to ranked BTB more than any retail games this spring.

I always hate it when in a BTB that i'm the only one on my team actually going for the flag instead of the sniper, rockets or sword all the time.

The enemey will steal our elephant, or bring theres to ours and there I am fighting the best I can against a whole team (sometimes scoring :D ) while my team is trying to kill someone the other end of the map.

it can't be helped but it angers me, so seeing the last flag capture not happen and the team dancing around with the flag would piss me off to no end.

I run into that all the time on objective games. Last night I was playing on the DLC playlist (the maps were worth $10, BTW), neutral assault on Standoff. We had gotten the bomb away from the other team and accross to one side of the map without them realizing; they were all engaged in fighting three of our team on the other side of the map. One of our team pulls up in a warthog, I grab gunner position - and then the driver takes off a second before the bomb carrier could get in. I'm yelling at the driver to STOP and let the carrier in. His brother chimes in: "Don't yell at my brother, he doesn't know what he's doing. He just wants to kill guys."

I told him, hey, if you want to play slayer, play on the team slayer playlist, not one with objective games. Meanwhile, we barrel into the fray on the other side of the map and eat a rocket. Needless to say, we lost the game.

does anyone actually play as an elite in matchmaking?

I remember there was a thread on the EGM cover for the Halo3 release and I was ridiculed for saying the Elite model looked goofy still and only 8 year old kids would play as them.

I guess I was right.

I do, all my friends play Spartans I wanted something different, shame the only Elite armour I like is the default one, I have the flight chest piece different and that's it.

If I had enough free time I would spend as much time watching saved films as actually playing the game. In every game there are moments I want to go back and check out, but I've only had time to do one per night. Lately they've come in handy for figuring out what happened off screen. The other night I tossed a grenade at a bad guy and heard "Betrayal!" a few moments later. WTF?

I thought I had a shot at sticking this guy.

Off she goes. From here on I'm out of the line of sight for what actually happened.

Heh, unlucky.

Ironically I just finished making some pics of my lucky plasma shot ;)

Here I am on construct, missing this guy (doh) and letting him get away, so he doesn't most likely ambush me at the top (paranoid)

a.jpg

For the hell of it, I throw a plasma, I had no intention of it doing any good, a frustration throw if you will ;)

b.jpg

Mr. Plasma takes a little trip (free cookie if you can guess how much fun these 2 guys will be having soon):

Guy on the left is the guy I missed before:

Destination reached:

I get one kill down below and wander off on my merry way

MEANWHILE:

Those 2 guys from before have followed Mr. Plasma up the lift...

...And land at the instant it explodes:

The guy I missed comes back to see what he missed

Suprising triple kill acheived.

I do wish we had the ability to film a clip while the game is paused/slowed save making the camera fly about at 200mph and look terrible as it tries to keep up.

That's great. I imagine plugging one guy with the mauler and gettting a triple kill was a bit perplexing. :lol

I fired a stray rocket today in Team Doubles and somehow got a betrayal. I should go back and check how exactly; my teammate was as surprised as I was.

I see them from time to time. It might be my imagination, but isn't it easier to stick Elites? I mean they seem a bit wider than the spartan models and I always think there's more space to make a successfull stick.

I have troubles using a BR on elites, because it feels like you have to aim a tad lower so my first few shots are basicly a spray while I realign.

Awesome, this game has so many awesome moments
I think the increase in the number of medals has added to to the game. Few moments give me more satisfaction than taking someone out and getting a nice row of medals in return. I'm particularly fond of sticking someone, dying, and then seeing this pop up:

for sure a kill feels so much sweeter when there are like 4 medals involved

There's a short clip of it on my Fileshare. It really was a fantastic scene.

Oh, and in the same session of games, there was the following great moment:

Since the BR shoots three bullets, I managed to kill these two dudes with the same shot (after taking their shields down with a frag grenade). Watching their synchronized death animations was awesome. :D

Finished putting my spawns down on my map, Derailed, so hopefully they work correctly and the map is final. I only was able to try it out by myself, so there wasn't two teams. The map's base idea is CTF or Assault, but Slayer can always be played. Here's my FILE share for any downloads and the pictures are below.

Is there anyway for forge, theater, and co-op to go beyond just friends and recent players? If not then all those features seem kind of gimped.(Not so much theater as I love watching recent matches.)

Death from the grave is always gratifying. It takes away the biting stench of death.

That looks great. For some reason the file share is showing empty for now. I'll check again when I get home. Proabably Live running slow again.

Anyone can can get into your lobby, an d play with you, as long as their invited, or they have a way to get in. They don't have to be on your friends or recent players list.

How do people who are not on your friends list enter your game? Probably an obvious answer but I don't know how they would find those people to join.

If one of their friends is in your room, they can get in that way. No, you can't just go hopping into strangers rooms if you're not somehow connected to them. Either through recent players or friends.
