The Official Halo 3 Thread

After having periods of hating a lot of them, I now really like all the maps. They all have something worthwhile to offer.

The only one I'll regularly veto is Team Slayer on Snowbound, but it's not the map's fault that some retard on my team will always go -10 trying to kill the shotgun guy. I'm also not a big fan of Team Slayer on Last Resort. Finally, I'm very suspicious of Foundry's spawns, but I've only played 6v6 (ugh) and one game of 2v2 in matchmaking.

I love the verticality of Construct, it encourages comprehensive map control. Epitaph would be an amazing map with fewer/zero shield doors. It's pretty great as-is with no radar and the maulers gone. Narrows has really grown on me, although I still think it would be improved if the rockets and shotgun were swapped. Isolation is an interesting idea for a map, and reminds me of Narrows more than Snowbound---no end-to-end lines of sight up-top, three routes from base to base.

I don't understand why people want remakes of Halo 2 maps. Sure, Lockout was great, but Halo 3 is a different enough game that old maps just won't play the same any more. I'm glad we're getting new ideas instead. Standoff is my new favourite map ever.

The thing I hate about Snowbound is that every slayer game turns the map from the medium size it is to mini, by which I refer to the tendency of everyone concentrating on the underground area. The kills can be gotten there easily and quickly so everyone floods it and tries to get a hold of the shotgun or just chuck all their grenades in the center underground hole from above. The same thing can be said about Construct, where the fight always shifts to the second level, where sword campers await those who use the lifts. Whenever I play Construct it boils down to one thing: circling around the second level and hope for the best.

I haven't played the new maps but I'm looking forward to do so, you guys seem to love them. I'll wait til they're free however.

It boggles my mind why people do this (like my mind was in a boggle.)

It's a result of either two reasons:
1.) You can't afford to pay $10. Yet you have a $400 Xbox, a $60 Halo 3 game, and pay a $50/year subscription.

2.) You are trying to "stick it to the man." "I'll show Xbox, they aren't getting my $10." Which is just laughable. Bill is tossing and turning at night cause he doesn't have your $10

Multi-Flag on Standoff is the best Halo 3 experience going right now.
Standoff is a great map. It drives me nuts that people try to veto (and often succeed) everything but Slayer on the DLC playlist.

Slayer on Standoff and Rat's Nest are the only two modes I've seen to recieve zero vetoes. I'm not a big fan of team slayer, but those maps are fun as hell to play on, regardless of the gametypes. I actually enjoy team slayer on Rat's Nest quite a bit. It's the perfect blend between vehicles and infantry.

Hey guys, I kind of lost track of this thread lately....just wandering if theres an ETA on the next Bungie podcast?

Not yet, Harold broke our computer with his brain. Once it is fixed, then we're back.

Personally I think Snowbound is the best designed map in the game. Epitaph has grown on me as well. Just wish they would have replaced Last Resort with an all-new BTB map from the start. Map is lifeless.

Halo also needs some subtle background music to accompany the onscreen action in MP. COD 4 uses music very effectively in MP.

I'm sure Marty could cook up something nice real quick.

what is on the agenda for the next podcast?

Depending on when it is released, Harold Ryan, Paul Bertone (and his gloating over the Randy Moss bet), Pentathalon stuffz and possibly more DLC map info. If the latter isn't on that show, it will be on a show in the Harold show's wake.

Luke, I realise this isnt the place for it, but have you played Mass Effect? If so, what did you think?

(Just curious because of all the hate floating around)

Same here. The show lacks that person who challenges Shane and says things that usually remain unsaid. Very selfish Luke, leaving 1up ;)

Doubt it.

A glimpse of anything would be nice, even if it's just some art... Halo 3 was released more than four months ago and I doubt they had only one project in development the last couple of years :P

Is Bungie going to have anything shown at next month's GDC?

A bunch of the space geniuses here are giving presentations which we hope will be of some interest to the development community, but in terms of "are we showing any new assets" or "making new game announcements" -- nope. The presentations will hopefully be interesting and I'd like to have the presenters come on the podcast and give us their spiel and regular people words so Frankie and I can understand them.

I remember in the past there were presentations about such things as the lighting model in Halo 3. Would the presentations similarly be about tech associated with a new project? Surely they must be right? RIGHT!?

That's exactly what's wrong with my copy.

What should I do to amend this problem? Contact Microsoft or what?

Last Limited Edition I'll ever buy.

Hopefully my buddy lets me keep his copy for a little while longer.

As for you Microsoft? I spit at you and your shoddy packaging.

Edit: Thanks for the link. :)

Please tell me you didn't do that whole super douche move where your team refuses to score the flag so you can rack up kills on a bunch of guests, making the experience as miserable as possible for some casuals.

Oh dear.

it is crazy how much that happens in call of duty it seems to me like it happens a lot more there than it does in halo, not that it doesn't happen

when the other team keeps screaming "nigger" in the pre-game lobby I don't have too much sympathy

It's called "victory laps." It is done to bring shame to your opponent... and for honor.

May have been.

Four of the players on the team had vehicles as their tools of destruction and they faced a... well, to put it delicately, group of not-so-good players. :P

Victory Laps FTW, N00b.

Come join the dark side. We have cookies.

I pretty much just started playing online.

It's hard to get used to with these analog sticks. >_< One thing I notice is that for some reason I can try to beat down a guy, but I usually get beaten down first even though I'm almost positive I should have downed him.

Maybe my controller needs batteries. : /

there is quite a bit of debate about the melee system and by debate i mean people hating it. It takes some getting used to
