My entire experience with COD2 and COD3 was splitscreen play at my friend's pad. He fired up COD4 thinking we'd have the same experience and he was really disappointed to see the franchise had taken a huge backwards fall in the co-op department.

What's dissappointing too is that CoD4 doesn't support split screen + LAN play. That would have been great too!

nor does it support create-a-class on lan. so even if you got 8 tvs and 8 360s and 8 copies together, you'd have to play with default classes. which is the reason the game will never be played at a major lan tourney unless it gets patched :( so sad

would this be because people could basicly play cod4 over xlink kai or some pc tunnel software instead, avoiding correct ways to send data across the internet? I'm sure some other games did this too or disabled voice over lan, other features etc.

Right now I'm kinda just fuckin' around with a dude and his wacky gametype.

edit: and by wacky, I mean lame. :(

Are you still playing? If you are send me an invite! ( gt = apoks)

Edit: Diablohead I tried your racing map on foundy, really cool race lay out. Would be cool if you added like a 2nd level, like a bridge and drive beneath as well as over it

Huh? Why not?

I can play split screen on a single Xbox...in fact, I can play 4 player split screen! Why not over LAN? Anyone know why they did this?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to next spring when they give out the maps for free, coz I'm cheap like that.

Urk is devoted.

Been doing some co-op the last few days, straight-up Legendary with one other person. It is goooood. We ran into lag issues at big vehicle battle at the end of Tsavo, but otherwise I couldn't find a difference from playing SP. Well done, Bungie.

TY, yeah i'm still testing the waters but that map alone took up all the item budget, so i'll have to get creative.

Working on a much more simple, wider and faster track thats basicly a figure 8 track, should be a little more entertaining then tight hairpins.

Sounds cool, if you want anyone to test it out for you send me a message or something, racing in halo can be pretty fun imho

Okay so, I'm kind of drunk... for the first time in months. Who wants to play a little Xmas Eve custom games? I borrowed my friends copy of H3 since mine decided to stop working a week or so ago. Which makes DeadCell a sad, sad bear.

Merry Fucking Christmas everyone!

p.s. Add me ll Atreyu (those are lowercase "L's" at the beginning).

:D

Has anyone made a really cool racetrack on Rat's Nest yet?

Ill be on for some customs, drop me an invite via the forgeclan thing

Oh yeah, MERRY XMAS to all GMTers

Speaking of coop action, has there been any word on if the guys at Bungie are releasing the video of that coop playtest talked about on the Bungie Podcast, the one were Sketch got the Warthog stuck? It sounded like there was a pretty big contrast between the older version of Tasvo Highway and the current version, I kind of wanted to see the differences.

You could use my race gametype with vip locations to get too, if you set each location as a number you can create non random, order swapping check points :D

Video wouldn't work on the current halo 3 anyway, different builds

They said that in the podcast, but there was talk of just putting out a straight-up video. I find seeing footage of development work after the game is out to be really interesting.

Edit: dammit.

Also, lol at the censoring if his name. :lol

Yeah, I know! And it looks pretty good in 4P split screen (well, I've only played 3 player, but you get my drift). Dunno why they did that...that and the lack of custom classes.

I've already created a gametype like this called RIIIDGE RACER.

Just checked my file share and it ain't there. I'll put it up in an hour or so.

My bad, Merry Christmas to all!
Its cool. My response kind of came off as snarky, so I apologize.

If they release the video Marty should do the sounds effects, like that old video looking at old Halo builds. So awesome.

Is there any christmas event in halo 3? I doubt it would happen but to see warthogs load up as santa's sleigh for a day would have been golden!
Yes, that would have been cool.

In the newest podcast they said there would be no holiday playlist since no one would really be around to fix things if something went wrong.

You go in with random players? I hate that.

I can't wait when BTB becomes ranked. Should be schweet!
Agreed. Ranked BTB will be very nice. I wanna see shots of the other new maps being worked on, too. Sadly enough, I went to visit my family for a few weeks and have no 360. I'll have to wait to enjoy some of the goodness until I return home.

Even unranked BTB games can be quite fun. I did two tonight (both Team Slayer on Valhalla, not my fav) and had a hoot. Despite my occasional frustration, each game I play is filled with those great little moments that define Halo. Couple random moments that had me fist-pumping tonight:

--I was defending a team mate manning the mounted turret as he took out guys landing from the man cannon. We were spotted by a Warthog and couldn't quite take it down before it slipped under the stone arch to circle around on us. When it came up the hill I dropped a plasma grenade in front and flipped it over backwards, the followed it up with another stuck to the underside. Double-kill. :D

--Manning the back of a Warthog doing considerable damage to the opposing team. My driver gets jacked, and the guy tried to drive away from the fight, only to run into a pack of his own team on the flat area in front of the base. I mow three of them down (triple kill) before he could get out of line of sight. Whoops.

I also finally figured out the Banshee controls, at long last. Six kill streaks are a rare beast for me.

It's little moments like those that have me loving the MP I do play. (Well, mostly. BR start on Team Control in the Pit was a strange decision. But then I hate BR starts on anything but very large maps.)

BR starts are God's work.
I don't like them because they tend to make most games a longer range fight, largely eliminating the effectiveness of grenadesa and frequency of melee opportunities. Most BR start games I've played consisted of 90% three shot bursts over and over, which just isn't fun for me. Which is to say, I suck and need 'sposions to kill dudz.

Exactly. It kills the golden tripod.

I don't really enjoy BR starts either, except for on really big maps. BR starts = Overrated.

I enjoy BR starts because sometimes that's what I'm in the mood for. Same goes for Rocket Race. You can't say "oh rocket race breaks halo 3" because it's just one playlist catering to one style of play.

Personally, I switch playlists every one or two games. I've done that since Halo 2 and it's a good way to mix up the fun. I enjoy every single playlist and I really appreciate the variety Bungie delivers (same goes for Call of Duty 4's playlists). Humbug to Gears' lite playlists though.

The only difference is you don't see rocket race scattered through Team Objective like BR starts are scattered through Team Slayer.

I ran into it on Team Control, in The Pit. Very odd place, and it made me leave the playlist after that game. And I love control objectives. I just thought it was an odd placement, BR starts have their place. TBT with BR start works well on Vahalla.

Oh wow. I was not aware that it was scattered throughout the other playlists. Still doesn't bother me though. It only breaks my previous analogy.

I don't mind BR starts because I used to enjoy those pistol matches in Halo 1. Also it makes Halo more like a tactical shooter. And the melee system pisses me off less.

I finally messed around with forge...I made a pretty cool map...other then friends is there a way to play with others? I think everone should like this one :)

For BR starts discussion, I'll copy and paste what I said in the Online section.

Link - No problem with that. That's why I hated seeing Guardians BR and so on in Team Slayer. What's so different? In Halo 2, they need Battle Rifle starts in bigger maps like Burial Mounds and Relic. But what give a reason to give rifle starts to a small map like Guardian? Even Lockout didn't have BR starts and it is larger than Guardian. Removing Maulers in there didn't bother me. The Hammer is more troublesome on that map than any Mauler.

Hopefully, at least aside from BR starts on Valhalla for straight up Team Slayer, they remove EVERY BR start for Team Slayer maps. There's simply no point. None.

And this was before Team Hardcore was brought back. Now there is a BR start playlist therefore there's absolutely no need for a BR start game in normal Team Slayer. The only map that could use BR starts in normal Slayer is Valhalla.
