It's amazon's Deal of the Day, it's not like the price is staying there. There will be plenty more who will pay 130 for it.

I thought they said they'd give us more info after they got back from T-day, but so far nothing new has come out. Two weeks to go though.blanky said:Will we get any previews of the map before they launch? Those pictures are nice but they don't tell me that much really.

Oh, definitely. I'm in the process of making my way through it, and I know plenty of folks that have already done it. Ghaleon, for example.Blader5489 said:Is this game even possible on Legendary solo?
Yup. It takes a lot of patience in some of the harder battles. On my first play through on Legendary, I spent most of the time alternately pinned down or fleeing in terror.Cocopjojo said:Oh, definitely. New Vidoc? Groovy. Looksl like HBO is talking about it as well, but there's nothing on b.net or Major Nelson. I wonder if it got out early or something.BladedExpert said:Anybody else seen the new ViDoc on Marketplace? Its a story rundown from Halo CE to Halo 3 by the Bungie crew. Its pretty long too. Anyways, give it a looksy.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, but it wouldn't have worked exactly like they wanted it to. It shows too many important scenes from Halo 3. Maybe it would have been nice to do something like this and only use scenes from Halo 1 and 2 to describe Halo 3's plot, though.Tieno said:Kind of a missed opportunity they didn't release this before the release of Halo 3. I griped that I didn't like any of the skulls....but then went back and humbled myself. I was playing on Heroic and getting CRUSHED, and it wasn't fun. I went back and played through campaign on Normal (I know, I know) with Thunderstorm, Catch and Tough Luck for the gold and Grunt Birthday Party and Cowbell for silver skulls. (I had Famine in there for some levels a well.) It was a bit harder than a straight Heroic run, but not as tough as Legendary. The Wispy Scoundrel said:I'm playing through Legendary with skulls on. And it was pretty fun, a few encounters aside (though my fellow marines blew me up with some rambunctious grenade tosses several dozen times). I think skulls will be more fun in co-op, on Legendary.
Only a few of them seem to be fun, though. Losing my HUD or radar doesn't make the game hard in a way that I enjoy, nor does Iron - it just makes it harder. The three I used and the one that gives the enemy more health spiced things up in an entertaining way.

Heh. I didn't realize the time bonus was applied at the end of the mission. I saw the multiplier going down and assumed it was applied to the kills I got in that timeframe. I started the first mission over three times, all at the very end, before I got on the Pelican, because my score was less than 15,000. I finally got over that and finished the level - and then the multiplier cranked it up to over 30,000. Doh! :lolRevengeance said:Grunt Birthday Party is ALWAYS fun. Plus it conditioned me to go for headshots in campaign.
I got my score achievements on Normal with pretty much those same skulls turned on (plus Mythic). Blaze through for the time bonus, and the scores are easy to get.
It was the hanger bay encounter on Crow's Nest that broke my back on Heroic. There wasn't enough maneuvering room in the back section to avoid the Cowbell-enhanced barrage from all directions. It was right after an hour of failure on that mission that I bitched on GAF about the skulls not being fun. I need to learn to not post in the moment.LukeSmith said:Catch is too much for me on Heroic. Brutes and grunts are hurtling grenades at you like the The Big Unit.
Use this for normal (solo): Tough Luck, Catch, Fog, Famine, Thunderstorm, Tilt, Mythic, Cowbell and IWHBYD.GhaleonEB said:I griped that I didn't like any of the skulls....but then went back and humbled myself. I'll try that, sans Fog and Tilt. I enjoy the way Halo 3 provides tons of ways to tackle encounters differently in part depending on my weapon selection, and Tilt narrows that. Again, it would be more fun in co-op when players have different weapons and have to work together. As for Fog.....I need that radar. With Catch turned on, I got blindsided by too many grenades and I couldn't tell where they were coming from; poor situational awareness. Weaksauce total.Tieno said:Use this for normal: Tough Luck, Catch, Fog, Famine, Thunderstorm, Tilt, Mythic, Cowbell and IWHBYD.
Makes that Brute barracks fight really hard and unusual. Dancing all over the place. Because of normal, your shields can resist a little more damage from the catch-cowbell-grenade parties so you have a little more room for error and experimentation.
Tilt and Fog made that Brute barracks fight so tough and different. Only found one plasma pistol lying around to strip brutes of their armor. If you could do that, you can take the spike grenades from some of the dead brutes that you can get to, lure the other brutes upstairs and try to sticky them. The Hammer hero brute took a very long time as I kept dodging him, running away from him, using the portable grav lifts, unloading my BR, unloading the gatling gun. I still remember it so vividly.GhaleonEB said:I'll try that, sans Fog and Tilt. I didn't get the IWHBYD skull, because I want those crazy lines of dialog to continue to surprise me; they're one of the lasting joys of Campaign. I hear new stuff on every playthrough of each game. That's the only skull that turns on a cheat I simply don't want to experience at any time.

that was last week. They haven't even posted anything on bungie.net this week. I have seen Luke a couple times here, but it's been a long time since I've seen anything from frankie. (I know he went on his own month-long vacation).Proelite said:They're off on vacations.

I've been listening to the soundtrack pretty heavily lately, and huge swaths of disk 2 are a gut punch, emotionally. As you said, it's impossible to disconnect the story from the music, and vice versa. I remain disappointed in aspects of the story in Halo 3, but the music really adds a lot. On my last play through, I skipped some cut scenes not due to time or lack of interest, but because I didn't feel like putting myself through the wringer at that moment.Cocopjojo said:I seriously cannot listen to some of the songs on the OST. The beginning of "Greatest Journey," for example. I've always been sentimental when it comes to epic stories (LotR is a hard watch for me), but... Marty O'Donnell is unbelievable. Tied with Howard Shore, his music seems the most connected to the story being told. It's some of the most moving music I've ever heard.
I love to listen to all of Disc Two, but the last track kills the mood... And gets painfully stuck in your head.Cocopjojo said:I seriously cannot listen to some of the songs on the OST. I heard the sample on the soundtrack website, and that was enough. I haven't listened to it on the full version, and never will. Just as I never heard more than a few moments of the band music in Halo 2. (In that one, I just made a new disk without it and that was that.)Buttonbasher said:I love to listen to all of Disc Two, but the last track kills the mood... And gets painfully stuck in your head.

Hmmmm so what was the point of this ViDoc, anyway? Seems like a big 'ol waste of everybody's time. That shit was SO 6 years ago.Quincey said:
