Question about ranks..

To be an officer, you need 150 EXP or 10 Skill.. but do you need 10 skill on every game mode?
No, you just need to have achieved a ten on any playlist.

It would have been better if he would have actually thought about what music to put on it, rather than just choosing the current flavour of the month.
That song is still current flavour of the month? It's not an original music choice, but it's ok.

I have 67 EXP and a 22 skill in Lone Wolf, but I'm still a Gunnery Sergeant Mk. 2? WTH? :(

When you get to 70 EXP you'll be promoted to Lieutenant.

edit: beaten

That's odd, I have a 10 in Lone Wolves but I didn't get promoted up to an officer on my last promotion. Hell, even the 10 button is lit up on the badges section!

Not all of it is useful - the only stuff I've found effective is the Deployable Cover, Bubble Shield, Regenerator, Trip Mine and now Invincibility. All the others seemed to be made with either MP in mind or for enemies to use against me. (And does ANYONE find the portable turret useful?)

I've found both the invisibility and the portable turret useful. I've used the invisibility in
Crow's Next, after I arm the bomb, I end up activating it for a quick get away. On Legendary, it's really fun to use
and I've used the turret on
the last level where you have to rush to the top of the tower and wait for the gate to open, where you have to defeat all the flood, I forgot the level's name but what I would do is set up a portable turret and use its fire as a secondary defense - me being the primary defense so I protected the turret while it took down major amounts of flood

Update is up, but with no new DLC news. It does, however, state that there will be big news on this coming Monday (Nov. 19). Sweet. And it gives some more details about the DLC map, Jodrell Bank:
We played a handful of Team Slayer matches on Jodrell Bank with each side’s Warthog tearing around causing incredible loss of life unless the Spartan Laser resting at the middle of the map or either base-side Rocket Launchers were acquired and used to their fullest. There’s a number of ranged weapons available and the usual compliment of short range weapons for interior base conflicts.

The mode that was far and away the biggest hit on Jodrell Bank was Multi Flag CTF, Cotton and I were talking about Multi Flag on Jodrell Bank after the event and it, more than Multi Flag and Valhalla or even Multi Flag on Coagulation in Halo 2 reminded both of us of Multi Flag CTF on Blood Gulch (my preferred CTF Blood Gulch was Warthogs only, Flag at Home to Score CTF Classic). Does that mean Jodrell Bank is a remake of Blood Gulch or Coag? Absolutely not, in fact it isn’t anything like it aesthetically, but in terms of the engagement distances, it feels like Blood Gulch.

In Halo: Combat Evolved a decent pistol could control half of the map, while there’s no weapon like the pistol in Halo 3, a good battle rifle can similarly control half of the map here, it’s a functional similarity while being a completely different experience. Jodrell Bank’s smaller size and the Battle Rifle’s non-pistol-esque range is what limits that engagement distance. The bases on Jodrell bank are different from the Blood Gulch bases as well – they are more labyrinth-y with more slippery spots to camp with a Shotgun and wait for unassuming fools to stumble into your boomstick.

bungie weekly update said:
on Monday (November 19) folks are definitely going to want to check back in here at Bungie.net and keep faces pressed to their monitors like children breathing on school bus windows in November, because there will be news. Oh yes, there will be news.

edit: shithole

Today's update was a good one. Hearing that outsiders are enjoying the new DLC maps is good, and hearing that news is coming on Monday is good.

My suggestion about Team Hardcore's implementation...Rework the Team Tactical playlist. I'd be interested in seeing what percentage of Halo 3's community is playing Team Tactical in comparison to the other playlists. I think if Bungie mixed that playlist up with Elimination, Hardcore, and SWAT gametypes it would definitely pull in that competitive MLG type crowd.

Here's to good updates, coming Bungie news, vacations and lots of videogames.

DLC news on Monday, then. :D

please fix melee. please fix melee. please fix melee.

Excited to see what the new maps have to offer. They sound like a hoot. I'm guessing some classic Halo 1 or 2 maps will be in the mix (Sidewinder).

Drewsy said:
Is there any reason you'd think this? Or is it just blind hope?
I don't even like that map. Just a hunch. Probably wrong.

I think one of the Updates stealthily hinted at some remakes in the mix at one point.

you mean the one that said something like "two of the maps will send an explosion throughout the halo community"?

i think the only thing that could do that is remakes.

if they wanted to pull in the mlg crowd they'd just wait until the mlg gametypes and forged maps come out and rip the them directly. and if they don't, there's really no reason to play team hardcore for an mlg player when a few tweaks in forge can change a map completely. then you're wasting your time when you could be playing customs or gamebattles and getting in real practice for a tourney

Yeah, that was the line, thanks. I couldn't remember it exactly. Sidewinder seems to be near the top of most remake request lists, and we know there's a couple of big vehicle maps in the mix, which is why I was guessing that.

They've already released all that, you need to go to their site to download them.

If SWAT really is that divisive maybe it'd be a good idea to make it as an individual playlist. I'm not holding my breath though. >:(

AND THAT. That is actually my biggest concern. More so than DLC. New maps are good regardless, it adds variety and a reason to come back and play a little more often. The melee situation for the most part is a reason why I'm avoiding playing the game TOO much. It's frustrating and I don't want to cross the line between frustration and fun. It's not that I'm a bitch and can't handle it but I don't want to become frustrated with Halo 3 to the point where I don't enjoy it. When the melee is fixed I'll play MUCH more. DLC will bring me back for a good chunk of time as well of course.

That's exactly where I'm at. I played ~16 games or so and it was starting to get frustration, and it sounded like DLC was close. So, I went back to Campaign until we heard anything concrete. I'm sure they're doing something with it.

Sidewinder and Boarding Action please please. I've been advocating Board Action for a while. It's probably not on the top of the list for most people but
the ending with the ship splitting into two sets it up perfectly:D

Speaking of which, the CoD4 map Bloc is quite a bit like Boarding Action and it definitely creates some unique scenarios. In Search and Destroy today my team planed the bomb on the other side of buildings that I was in, but I covered them with the Dragonov and picked off three people rushing the bomb. Protected our guys inside, and successfully defended our bomb until it detonated. Colossus from Halo 2 allowed you to easily defend your teammates with mid and long ranged weapons as they ran the flag or bomb, and bringing back a map like Boarding Action would definitely please me. For both variety purpose, lore purpose and strategy purpose.

Sidewinder is garbo.

If they remake a map, at least ramake Damnation and Chillout. The weapon/power-up placement mixed in with the upgraded physics engine could make for some awesome ffa, teamslayer and 2v2 games.

In-regards to Halo2, ramake Midship, and some of the BTB maps. BTB in Halo3 needs to be ranked with many many more maps. It's kinda sad to see what BTB has become in Halo3. While Halo2 launched with 3 feasibly playable BTB maps, Halo3 launched with 1 over retarded vehicle whoring POS map.

Headlong, Coag, and Waterworks for Halo 2.

Valhalla and Sandtrap for Halo 3.

Sandtrap trumps them all, but they do need more. Like how they added Terminal, Containment, and Relic, it would be nice if they added more for Halo 3 soon, especially if they're ranking BTB. Make it 6-8 players per team, as well.

Waterworks did not get near enough love in Halo 2. That map was awesome. And I have many, many fond memories of Assault on Headlong. Another great map.

That's it. I quit Halo. 4 of the 6 matches I played in the last hour were Swords games. Something's fucked up once again, and I won't wait for them to fix it. Their matchmaking lists blow big time. Sorry Bungie, bye for now.

EDIT: Make that 5 in 7.

Waterworks was awesome when you had good times and the proper gametype (no slayer!). One of my most favourite habbits was getting the wraith and blocking up the door entrances.

I loved using the Banshee to fly up to the center structure to snipe.

In other news, Louis Wu at HBO made an interesting comment on his forum this morning:
Hmm. I sort of assumed they'd be OFFERING the DLC on Monday, rather than announcing a download date.

I guess I could be wrong there. :)
Sometimes he has insider info and sometimes he doesn't, but I can't remember the last time he made a prediction that didn't come true.

So, DLC on Monday? tmntdance.gif

Which playlist in particular? I'm finding there is a lot of Swords in comparsion to Oddball and KOTH in Lone Wolves I'm assuming you mean that.

What sort of time has there been between DLC announcement and the release, in the past?

Even if they announce it on Monday, I still think we'll only have to wait a couple of weeks.

I just hope it is sensibly priced.

Awesome.

Putting Swords in Lone Wolves is not something they should do. Rumble Pit - yes! Ranked? No. I'd keep to Slayer and little weight to Oddball and KotH.

That would surprise me very much - the Bungie guys are going on vacation next week and I'd think at least some of them would want to stick around to monitor the DLC as it rolls out, watch for issues, etc. I'm guessing we'll see the maps and other changes (Luke outlined some changes coming to vehicles, for example) as well as details on the first title update, with a release the week they get back.

But I'd love to be wrong. :D

people wont be happy with hardcore unless you make it mlg rules v.2

i hope bungie waits and see's what mlg does. dont just listen to kids on your forums.

By people, you mean you? Hardcore was somewhat popular in Halo 2. But Bungie is still making a mistake by making Hardcore and refusing to rank BTB. I don't see why they're doing this. The population is the highest it'll ever be, take chances with the playlists now, while you can.

YES! The Halo 3 OST is going to be available on the Zune MP on November 20th for all you Zune MP people (such as myself). If you signed up for Zune MP using the same Windows Live ID that you used to sign up for your Xbox Live account, you can use the points you have on your XBL account to buy the album from the Zune MP. :D

Team Hardcore is more popular than Big Lag Battle. Just because you hate MLG doesn't mean everyone else does.

All Bungie needs to do with a Team Hardcore playlist is copy MLG v.1 and update as MLG does.

A couple dozen more actually.

Damnit Bungie, you have me by the balls :(

But please fix the goddamn Lone Wolf playlist, I'm sick of playing shitty Swords games every other round!
