I decided to work the meta achievements recently. I have to say I think the single player isn't as bad as I thought it was. It's fun and diverse, as was Halo 2. Only missions I don't care for are the seventh and eighth (I've hated every flood level in every Halo game). I guess my problem is the story seems like such a step back from Halo 2. What they did with the Arbiter is something I've rarely seen in FPSs. I think playing it through heroic and legendary (with other people) and dying so much ruined the fun a bit. Playing it on normal with three skulls (famine, fog, and tough luck) was a little more of a challenging then just regular normal in Halo 2.

I really am not looking forward to the eighth mission. It's the only level I have to beat in the meta game. :(

get a friend to play with you on legendary

good times.

What is it? Cortana? I'll help you if you want. I don't know when I'll be on though.

Cortana was surprisingly good on Legendary w/skulls solo.

All that level needed was Knights of Cydonia.

Anyway, as long as you don't stand in the back complaining about the flood I'll help you, if you'd like.

On his defense, Halo 3 has a different pace than Halo 2, it feels slower, but as I said, many ppl complain about the framerate but I cannot feel this problem.

It's not the slowness that bothers me it is the stutter. I got a shock a few months ago when I went back to MP Halo 2 but I soon adjusted to how slow the game is. The framerate in Halo 2 MP is buttery smooth on my 360 btw.

Anyway I've responded to Luke so let's not derail the topic from story discussion.

Rocket-Jumping in Halo 2 was the greatest thing ever.

Until it got destroyed by a patch.

Oh geez

I remember when everyone I played with just wanted to get out of the maps in customs rather than play the actual game. Halo 2 was a glorified ventrilo for most of us for a while.

Getting out of Headlong for the first time was one of the greatest game experiences of my life. That same night we also got out of Burial Mounds. So awesome.

I finished Contact Harvest a couple of minutes ago and it was simply amazing. It answers many questions I've had about the Covenant and the reasons why they want to wipe humanity from the face of the galaxy, if not all of them.

But there is a very confusing exchange between some characters in the novel that turns seemingly established things on their head.

The Oracle inside the Forerunner Dreadnought identifies Humanity as Forerunners that survived the war against the Flood. I thought that Halo 3 and especially the Terminals established that Humanity was chosen as a successor to the Forerunners, the next bearer of the "mantle".

Nonetheless, Contact Harvest is the best novel so far and hopefully a sign of things to come (PJ project).

Bailey, PM me your Xbox 360 purchase date (or whenabouts you received it), Gamertag, whether you play with an HDD or not, what levels you're experiencing the issue on, what part of each level you're experiencing the issue on, if you've tested your HDD on other machines, if other discs have been tested in your machine. The game is locked at 30 fps. Your TV, your settings, what post processing you have enabled.

I've genuinely never seen anything like what you've experienced and I'll have all our perf guys look at all of your data. I think you're just an Internet troll, but we'll still look at it.

Laugh it up......:p

I don't see how reviewing my stats will reveal anything about the framerate. It will reveal that I'm not very good at Halo 3 MP. I've played it on a friends 360 (different disk as well) with the exact same framerate issues so it would appear that it's the game not the hardware. What are the chances of two people having problems with 360 hardware? Would have to be a million to one surely?

Luke if you get the chance a respond to my requested PM it would be appreciated. No hurry.

It has to be your 360 or a bad disc, because Halo 3 is locked at a smooth 30 fps for me, extremely smooth actually...

And I always notice these things...

Played it on more than one 360 and with several different copies. Like I said what are the chances that both 360's have the same hardware fault? These things are hand crafted from....fine...things...or something.

I have never had issues either, the skip during loading in campaign and the odd exception when things get crazy aside.

I would never complain about the tiny stutter you get when loading at checkpoints or when things get hectic.

I notice a little framerate change now and again, normally then 20 things explode at the same time or some heavy action where everyone fights in a king of the hill area is on, but it's far from game breaking and just being anal.

Bailey: are the stutters happening only in MP or does it happen in SP as well? If it happens in SP as well, have you tried playing SP w/o your hard drive attached?

I've had a hard drive go on the fritz on my 360 (never outright died though) that caused stuttering in Halo 2, lockups and severe stuttering in Crackdown, etc. I borrowed a friend's hard drive and played through a few parts of Crackdown and had no issues at all. It unfortunately took buying a new HDD to fix my problem. :/ If your HDD is having an issue, that would explain why multiple Halo 3 discs all have the same problem.

Oh, and I love Adam Baldwin.

Wolffen said:
Yeah, he's great. I'm glad HBO is doing the dialogue database again. I'm interested in hearing more of Baldwin, as well as Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk.

A friend of mine was tooling around with the stat page to see if he could incorporate ranked and social match stats all on the same page along with their medals. Here's what he came up with. What do you think?

That's pretty smart, nice use of those ribbons.

I think that is a much better design. Everyone at Bungie should be fired.

Ugh... I've been on a bad streak lately ( ok a bit more than lately, WTB GOOD TEAM TO PLAY WITH!!! ) and need to get my k/d ratio up to 2 again :(

So can you manipulate the Bungie.net page to show this? Or is this just something he ended up being able to make on his own?

*edit* ahh i can't combine the two posts.. where the gay is the delete button!

No, this is just something my friend created using MS Paint. Just re-arranging things to show it can work on one screen

So, um. People interested in Bungie and why they split with MS, and how it impacted Halo 3 and what's next for the studio should read this. It's a pretty revealing interview with Harold Ryan, the Studio Manager. Tons of stuff in there, but this final exchange describing what was next for Bungie was the most detailed yet.

So, what’s next for Bungie?

It’s not like we’re worried about a bunch of doors are closing, but we’ll have tighter loops with our prototyping. During the development of Halo and Halo 2, we had other, non-Halo IPs in development and we killed those projects both times. Both teams were swallowed whole by the Halo team. With Halo 3, that was the first time we know that we couldn’t let that happen – it’s not an acceptable way out to add 20 people to the project by killing that prototype.

We kept that prototype running throughout the development of Halo 3 and now we have a creative team which feels like they own that.

We also have Halo DLC on the way, and a new IP prototype that we are very excited about. Then we have other Halo games that are cranking along also. So the end result so far has been exactly as it should have been – we’re happy, excited, and doing our best work on a path that lets us grow.

Halo 4 and Halo 5 confirmed? Where do I preorder?

awesome read. i really liked this part

we don’t have a shortage of people happy to make Halo games, but obviously there are guys that have shipped Halo games for ten years, and they are definitely ready to work on new IPs or create new things. We’re actively engaged with the senior staff here on a couple of new IPs right now, but the team that can generate cool Halo games is still running full-speed as well.

I’m sure those senior Bungie guys will sit in as advisors – on pre-production, design review and polishing the game as we build it – but they won’t have to get their hands as dirty in the bits of pieces of the next couple of Halo games.

sounds like a great way to handle it. :)

For anyone who pays attention it looks like the stats page on Bungie.net has been a little redesigned. Looks pretty slick!

edit//

Changes I've noticed:
- New layout of insignias on the top of the stats "front page"
- Medal counts if you mouse over your 5x2 grid of medals on the front page
- Kill percentages by weapon in your career stats page (ranked and social)
- Background "layering" of played games, just alternating color backgrounds to keep the list easier to read (looks basically unreadable at the moment due to white layer/white text)... presumably they're still working on it
