I played Flag Rally in Social Doubles tonight for the first time. I try to be very level headed and not complain too much but seriously...What was going on when this gametype got green lighted? It's a matter of who has the most territories at the end of the game...So basically, the last 30 seconds of each round is the most important, the rest is pointless. I liked Land Grab in the H3 Beta A LOT more than Flag Rally, and Land Grab wasn't that popular in the beta. My teammate and I captured all five points and then for some reason the game adds 3 minutes of Sudden Death? Um, that's a little strange.

I also tried messing around with Forge tonight to come up with a "Flamez" gametype. Wanted to make it around 200% speed, all flamethrowers and flame grenades. But you can't spawn players with flame grenades, and can't spawn players with flamethrowers. I thought maybe it was a map issue so I switched to Construct, a map WITH a Flamethrower by default...But you can't even place a Flamethrower. I understand not being able to spawn with a third-person weapon, but not even being able to place it? I don't quite get the Forge restrictions. It's restricting my dreams and visions dammit! FLAMEZ is the future!

Seriously thought, I'd like to see flame grenades on a map in Matchmaking. Maybe one of the new maps will have them.

Since the infection playlist will have Forged maps, there's a possibility they will show up there.

The HBO Cutscene Library (they really need to change it to the Cinematic Library) is updated through The Ark. The opening and second cinematics have some of my favorite music from the game in them.
I was watching them earlier. I love the Ark opening cutscene. SOMEONE skipped it in my teams first co-op run...

I agree that music is especially awesome. Really gives you the "going to battle" vibe.

And the maproom cinematic near the end of the mission. Not going to battle music - quite the opposite. Probably the most serene and introspective piece Marty's done in the trilogy, IMO.

Watching that cinematic has reminded me to write about the character in the Halo trilogy I'm most sypathetic to:
343 Guilty Spark.

Think about it: the poor guy gets screwed, repeatedly. His is a tale of loyalty, redemption, and ultimately, betrayal. He spends 100,000 years meticulously maintaining his Halo array, Installation 04, running simulation after simulation in preparation for another Flood outbreak. When the Covenant show up and set them loose, he does what he needs to do: follow the containment protocols. Then lo and behold! a Reclaimer shows up. A helpful one, too, right up until he delivers the Index to the Control Room. Then he and his AI compatriot betray poor Spark, right when the Flood is about to be neutralized.

So, it's off to Plan B, but the Reclaimer toasts that plan as well by shorting out the systems. Of course, they add insult to injury by blowing the damn ring up completely. At least the Flood got contained. But now Spark is homeless, adrift in space surrounded by the flaming wreakage of his home.

In Halo 2, Spark hitches a ride with a non-crazy bunch of Covenant (the Heretics) who have an understanding of what the Halo systems do, and does his best to help out on the gas mine - until his newfound friend is killed by the Aribiter. Poor Spark is taken prisoner by these raving lunatics.

I thought of Sparky as being a villain in Halo 1, but was genuinely sympathetic to him in Halo 2 - he was just trying to do his job. I respect that. He'd lost his home; I lost mine as a kid, too. Seeing him in held in captivity by Truth, I felt sorry for the guy - he's homeless, frustrated, trying to be helpful but getting reamed at every turn. His captor finally killed - by the same Arbiter who killed his friend the Heretic Leader, ironically - he doesn't stand in the way when Installation 05's firing system is shut down. He even helps them get back to earth, to (what he thinks is) the Ark.

In Halo 3, Spark finally comes full circle and meets the Chief - the Reclaimer who blew his installation up - and concedes that was in the wrong, but will try to set things right by helping the Chief and his cause; they need to meet the mutual thread of the Flood and the Covenant. Which he does, fixing the message left by Cortana, opening doors on the Ark, providing mission data and objectives, recommending which tank is in tip-top shape, even helping the Reclaimers to kill that bastard Truth. And then, glory of glories, the Ark forges him a replacement Installation 04! Yay! Just a couple more days and he's got a home again, and can follow the protocals to toast the Flood. Spark is clearly delighted beyond measure when that baby pops up.

Of course, firing it is the right thing to do. But it needs to cook just a few more days - no big deal in the broad scheme of things. But now the Reclaimers - who blew up his last ring - want to nuke this one as well! Right when he's about to get it back! Why, I'd develop a newfound ability to shoot red lasers if I was being betrayed for a second time, even after I tried to be so helpful. And then, of course, Sparky suffers a brutal death by Sp'laser. Poor little guy.

That's true...Never thought about it that way. Interesting to see things click on that cutscene when he realizes what's going to happen. His character reverts back almost. It's interesting though replaying it how things make sense now. I've never thought about it from his perspective though...
I'm sure it wouldn't have been his first choice to slay a reclaimer, but in his anguish when he realizes what Sarge wanted to do he makes a move. Although if he took them all down who would activate the rings? More loneliness. Maybe thats why he's not good at aiming...

So has everyone seen the full version of Landfall?

Hooooly shit.

How is that potential movie not a sure thing?
Rumor has it, the movie talks are back in motion. I think the Halo 3 sales + Landfall made a pretty powerful argument.

Also, in case anyone doesn't know, you can make you own "motivational" poster from here.

Like this:

Yeah, I mean Landfall wasn't shot like your typical action/sci-fi/epic at all. I would love Halo to be not only be the best videogame movie ever made, but also one of the few action movies that isn't creatively bankrupt.

One of the reasons why I love the Halo Trilogy is because its also the tale of artificial intelligences that become too human. Nice read.

Living Dead playlist is fucking awesome... the maps are forged and they are really great. It's fun to have like 10 zombies coming after you with gravity hammers and active camo.

This needs to be a permanent playlist, or at least give us a forge playlist. SO awesome.

Try going in alone, seems to work better.

We're using it as a test for usability and popularity, among other things, as well as Forge-altered maps - so 24-hour-complainers should relax a bit.

my only real complaint is that most of the time it's too hard to kill the zombies. They have full shields!

Oh and I finally got to play a game against a bungie employee in matchmaking. That was neat.

some peole didn't beleive he was a bungie employee. kept trying to say he was a hacker :lol

though they might have been joking.:D

It seems like if I want to play, I have to do it at 1:40 in the morning. I had almost ZERO LAG, for the first time in pretty much forever/since I moved into this new place. I'm gonna be hardwired soon, but still. Bah. I need to not lag out of games! I'm assuming it's because I'm on a cable connection, and there's that whole "sharing your connection" hoo-ha. God, I hope that's not it because I REALLY want to have a lag free experience once I get hard wired. COD4 comes out in a week also! AUGH! = (

Eight straight TS wins and my 48 hasn't budged, despite getting MVP ~half the time and almost always having a positive K/D ratio. Also playing against 49s and 50s in about half of the matches, with the other half of games playing against mid-40s. Oh and no mixed party BS, either, so that's not the culprit.

Pretty lame.

Can it be Modern Warfare time now?

I completely agree. I've always liked him (he's only trying to do his job)!

Besides, his voice is hilarious, and he's really adorable. I've always wanted to give him a big hug. Who wants to spend their life being called "Robot" and "Lightbulb"?

They fired the new installation 04 to kill the Flood, right? What I don't get is how do they know that all the Flood followed them to the Ark? Couldn't there be more Flood that stayed behind in the Milky Way?

Oh shap, it's already Haloween - I didn't realize it was today! :(

And it's gonna be a long day today with my new schedule - great...

Looks like it's gonna be another marathon night tonight to get the most out of this list!

And nice Easter Egg find Sir Fragula - I wonder what other maps have stuff like that for today...

And Ghaleon, that site is great too! Definitely will go through those pics after the playlist is gone... (hopefully Infection comes back soon Stinkles/Luke!)

I love the Halloween playlist. I was -so- freaking close to getting my overkill but some bastard stole the last one from me. I cried all the way to work :lol

FUCK! XD

I've tried the Haloween playlist, it's fun. Shamefully, once you've tasted the cake (Quarantine and its forged map), it makes bungies effort pale in comparison :(

Yup.
In fact, were 100% sure they still exist in Forerunner containment facilities. Whether or not any are loose is debatable, though one could easily argue that with a species so voracious and so prolific, there wouldn't be the slightest chance they got them all.
