Quarantine is awesome. So awesome. And the complimentary map variants are so great. Love hearing the Infected smashing away at a blockade to get in with their stabby implements of terror and death.
 
My machine's dead at the moment so I was worried I was going to miss some kind of cool 'Haloween' armour or something similar. Missing MM Infection is a shame, as is the chance to pinch some of the harder achievements, though.
 
Long, 42-point article on Halo's AI. I found it really insightful, but it's perhaps not for everyone. For example:

8) Decide on Responsibilities of Design and Code
In the Halo series, the technical side is responsible for controlling the AI autonomously from one second to another (for about 30 seconds [1]). This involves:

--Intelligent decisions, for example to find valid cover.

--Instant reactions, e.g. when grenade is about to explode.

On the other hand, the designers are responsible for giving more meaning to the AI, over the course of minutes (typically around 3 minutes of playing scope [1]).

--Strategic Purpose, for deciding what to do in the situation.

--Racial personalities, specifying the high-level behaviors.

As such, the design provides motivations for the AI that are not represented in the code itself, like protecting certain areas, or securing perimeters. The overlap between design and code happens in the combat behaviors.

I admit, I laughed at that "Blame Halo 3" song. Awesome!

Anyway, I love this Haloween special Bungie thing since I noticed that the Weekly Update said that it's a great time to get certain achievements like overkill and whatnot - how would we do this if we can only achieve that in Free For All Ranked? Is Infection generally considered "FFA" since you don't have a "set" team since it changes depending on if you get "bit?"

You can play ranked games splitscreen, with a guest, as long as that guest has a Live account of their own to use. They can also use a headset.

So no shields, zombies run faster and have more gravity. Humans start with SMGs and have to find weapons.

I may release my forged infection map for Lost Resort, but alas this is not the mutiplayer thread.

Thread. He doesn't currently have the Quarantine gametype or any of the maps in his File Share, but if you send him a friend request (DualX) with a message attached that says something about Quarantine, he'll probably accept it and invite you to a game.

Different people have different problems with this. For some, stats and screens take a while to show up. My stats and screens always show up instantly.

Yes, it is set up as a Ranked Playlist, and players will have some good opportunities to pick up a few of the harder MP achievements without any of that pesky guilt. Fending off the hungry dead is as righteous a way as any to score an Overkill. It’s also a good chance to fill out your Ranked Medals with some of the Infection medals, like Infection Spree and Hell’s Janitor.

Nice. An Infection playlist where I can the last MP achievements I need without cheating still counts as something different than just an Infection playlist.

My copy ships with my Halo 3 Soundtrack on November 20. If I got them both in the same shipment it was free shipping. I'm cheap like that, but it was a great Prologue and I'm very excited for my copy to arrive.:D

I love the concept of it. At first I thought that a Johnson novel would just be sexy time and him knowing what the ladies like but the prologue hints at a very personal, in-depth story.

A slight problem that could become a bit silly later on is the writing. Maybe it's just me but if the protagonist is firing a big laser gun just tell me that he is firing a big laser gun, I don't want to know what it is made of, how it smells, what it looks like etc. it's just a damn laser gun.

400 pages worth of expanisve technical descriptions of fictional equipment may be a bit too much for my little monkey brain to handle.

I asked a question regarding this but I'm not sure if people understood what I was saying:

How does this work? Does this mean that I no longer have to get them in LoneWolves for Haloween? Will there be regular people vs. zombies, and in that type of Infection, will I be able to get achievements? I tend to do better when I have people on my team (even though the team is ever-changing because once a zombie gets you, you become a zombie yourself) and if this were to be true then awesome. It also means that achievements like Steppin' Razor SHOULD require more skill rather than luck (the chances of a chance to get Steppin' Razor should increase with Infection).

The achievements aren't specifically tied to Lone Wolves. You can get them in any ranked FFA playlist - which, atm is only Lone Wolves.

The infection playlist will be FFA games... however, you can work as a team either way.
 
Dammit this fucking sucks, they can't even give it to us for like a weekend or something? Practically no one I know will be able to play much if at all tomorrow, and a lot of my friends clamor for Infection. This is crap.
 
My coworkers and I are going to start playing after work. Since only 3 of us have 360s and there are 6 of us, is there a way for us to all play in a Big Team Battle with only 3 Xbox Live IDs?

Also is there a way for us to have a private team voice chat between the 6 of us so we can smack talk to each other instead of to everyone?

You can have guests yes since BTB is unranked (no guests in ranked playlists). You can have up to 4 (?) people in a private chat, so the three of you with tags could be in a chat, but as far as I know guests can't have mics though.

Yeah, by the way I have not seen you on Halo 3 ONCE, all lies from you. Anyway I'm just really fucking pissed because me and my friends have been clamoring for an infection/zombie playlist for like 3 years, then we get it for one day on a fucking Wednesday? What the fuck.

I bet you can tell I haven't played Infection much - anyway, I take it that it's "Free For All" in the sense that it's every man for himself as far as survival but you're not going to be shooting the other humans and with the zombies it's who can get the most kills...

Yeah. It was a 5.6. I was actually mid-matchamking TS in Construct. I was playing with a couple of local buddies, and one yelled "EARTHQUAKE!!" I ran outside for a while until it subsided, checked the news, and came back to see we got our asses handed to us.
