Seriously, go play it now on Legendary, because it is intense and so fun.

Yes, I agree. It's a completely different way to play the game.

I play it with a few skulls turned on, and it is so much better than blasting through it on heroic.

While I agree, you shouldn't discredit playing on Easy. Sometimes I feel like blasting through a level on Easy, running and jumping like some kind of weird mutant baby of Super Sonic and Mario. Kind of like a speed run, but with killing all the bad guys too.

And please, no "OMGZ MAN UP D00D" comments...

Problem with easy and normal is that some stuff just don't happen.

Halo 3 was 10x better on Legendary, but something just felt missing. There was nothing really memorable about it..

In Halo 1, you had the Gravity lift to the Truth and Reconciliation, and you fought the waves and waves of elites.. It was the most frustrating thing EVER on Legendary, but it just felt SO.... "OH MY GOD, YES YES YES!" when you beat it.

*cough*

I'll never forget that part until I die.

Oh, and the part with all the Brutes on the second level, for some reason, seemed a whole lot easier on Legendary (I had the fun skulls on, too. Fog, Famine, Tough Luck, and Catch)

BTW-- The Hornet encounter-- Why was it SO easy? I didn't die more than twice! All the Banshees seemed distracted, instead of focusing on the Demon who was going to kill their leader...

There's a huge problem with the difficulty in this game. Bungie kept telling us that Normal was for people who had never played a Halo game before and that Heroic was for veterans. Who the fuck is Easy for? Retards? The difficulty in Heroic should have been normal and then ramped up. Legendary without skulls is a joke.

No it's not... settle down.
It's not harder than halo1-2's legendary, but it's reallly close and nowhere near a joke.
This is just the first time you've had the luxury to play with 3 other people.. to share the 'love'

Easy: Inexperienced gamers
Normal: People new to Halo or FPS in general
Heroic: Players who played through Halo 1 and Halo 2
Legendary: Experienced players looking for a challenge, or for co-op
Skulls: Create Your Own Difficulty

Legendary for one player is a pretty solid challenge - on par with the first game. But more importantly, it's challenging for mostly the right reasons, unlike Legendary in Halo 2. (The Chief isn't fragile, the enemies aren't cheap, melee isn't nerfed.....etc.)

And while we're on this topic, hats off to Bungie for making the difficulties so different. I played through Bioshock on Normal and then Hard, was very disappointed. Hard is just the same as Normal, but the enemies take and deal more damage. It's a very lazy way to do difficulty. In Halo 3, entire encounters play out differently. Weapon drops, enemy types, number of guys, their health and skills - they all change, and it made for a second play through that felt fresh. And with the skulls - one of which I hope to find some day - they really went above and beyond in giving people the ability to decide not only how hard they want the game, but what aspects of the game will be challenging.

Sounds like at least one of the bonus tracks will be a fan recording. Not too thrilled with that, but as long as the non-Marty/Michael music is just a track or two it's not a big deal (just don't go anywhere near the ratio of the Halo 2 Volume 1 Soundtrack).

While there's some great ambience music in Halo 3, there's no stand-out track. Many of the most memorable tune are just remixes of the past soundtracks.

I know that there's a skull that make all ennemies a rank higher. Is it possible to have more than one Gravity hammer weilding crazy monkey per encounter with this skull?

NO!

And thats one thing I totally wanted too!
In fact, that skull doesnt upgrade the brutes.... just the jackels and grunts. Maybe we'll get some DLC skulls one day that do just that!

I'm sure the brute hierarchy permits two brutes with hammers.. or something like that.. but I dont care. I want to take on like 3-4 chieftans at once damnit!

I disagree, there IS a stand out track in Halo 3, the track that appears in the opening cutscene of level 6 and as the second track in the credits. At least the beginning is new, later on it almost turns into a medley which makes it even more awesome.

Also, I loved the track in The Storm during the Scarab battle. Halo 3 definately takes a RotK/RotJ approach to the music - evolutions of the first two installments, with some new themes woven in. I'm particularly fond of the new versions of Under Cover of Night and Brothers in Arms.

Why is there no Sputnik skull?

I canceled my pre-order. Way to go Bungle.

I assume you're joking with the first bit as well, but just in case, Sputnik is still in and is now called
Cowbell

NO. NO IT IS NOT.

YOU ARE NOT WORTHY.

If you have EVER gotten the Sputnik skull, you'd know that Cowbell is DEFIANTLY not it! Cowbell does make explosions more intense, but it doesn't lower the gravity when pushed from explosions.

Or, if I'm wrong, then Cowbell still fails because it's effects aren't even noticeable.

My campaign through Halo 3 on Legendary continues on..

I just finished playing Crow's Nest on Legendary, and holy shit do I have a new found respect for the level design and weapon placement.

The first brute pack encounter is just holy shit, oh my god, fucking amazing. It took probably over fifteen times, but once I finally killed the Cheiftain, I felt SO FUCKING GOOD!

It was one of the most beautifully crafted enemy encounters I have ever been apart of.

That's one of my favorite encounters on Legendary. I spent at least that long as well.

Ha! I killed him right at the beginning of the encounter with the BR. :D
When I saw you had replied, I clicked assuming it was to boast how that encounter was no problem for you. Not disappointed. :lol

I took a few shots at him with the BR a couple of different times. Once a pair of cover shields was deployed, and the other he charged with invincibility on, while the pack rained Brute shots, carbine and spiker fire at me. Didn't work out too well in either case. That encounter was easily one of the most intense and satisfying to clear on Legendary solo. If you are a mere mortal, that is. :p

I agree. Chieftain with the hammer chasing me still makes my heart race. :D

this thread has died since mp discussion was moved over to that other thread, and then that thread is only about half of the regulars from this thread , seems pointless to me

Question: Who keeps telling people I'm the voice of Master Chief? I've gotten 2 friend requests and messages saying something along the lines of "What's up MC i just wanted to add you! Love your games!"

Seriously! Did something happen and no one tell me? :lol

I'm not Steve Downes. I'm Jason Jones. Get it right.

wtf. Another? :lol

haaa, i get ims and friend request to this day because people think im the rap artist tech n9ne because i used to do street promo for him and if you google image search him one of the first few pics take you to my ign profile

yes i said it, im a very old ign user who converted to GAF

...Wow.

I got an invite from one of the crazy people. It was a party of him, and a younger friend of his. Before I joined I unplugged my headset. They just kept talking about how great of a job I did in the games. Then when the match started they were all backing me up. I betrayed one of the dudes that wasn't in the party, and he was upset. Then our little friend says "Don't eject him dude! It's the Master Chief! The dude that does the voice of MC!" silence..."really?"

Oh and at one point I heard the phrase "I'm shaking right now! I'm just such a fan!"

I really don't understand how anyone got this idea in their head, but I have to say I'm having fun with it.:lol

EDIT: Sorry, I know this is the Campaign thread. This isn't really about MP as much as it is humor.

Haha it did not turn out well the first couple of times I tried it though. :lol

Also I wanted to say that the Cowbell skull is awesome. I'm not sure I'll be able to play without it now. :D

Christ Almighty. Adventures abound in dreamland, alright.

Play team tactical.

Eliminatio mode is awesome. 4v4. First team to 5 kills wins the round. 5 rounds.

Not many people playing and that makes me a sad panda.

That and the double-scarab battle are my favorite encounters in the game. So many ways to approach that.

It was probably the first encounter in the game that convinced me that equipment was a really useful addition.

I don't want to brag (although I don't know if others have had similar experience), but out of all the levels I feared Cortana the most on Legendary...yet it turns out it was probably the easiest, next to Floodgate.
Just did it in 40 minutes, died 14 times (few even preventable), killed 102 flood.
First time on heroic it was probably twice as long and killed two or three times as many flood.

Key is probably skipping some easy stuff + skipping some hard stuff with cloak (found them at 4 parts and used them to skip what I knew would be pretty tough parts) + the right weapons. Those transformer sniper dart shooters go down incredibly fast with a needler, always had it with me. They are also usually crawling on the floor when you just enter an area, so just be fast and try kill a bunch of them with the sword, finish the others with the needler.
When you have to backtrack again, there's this tunnel section (I think after destroying the pillars) where there's a lot of flood and if you go through it on the top level, you can get by almost unharmed, kind of platforming, very cool!

Actually enjoyed the level quite a bit playing it this way.

Finished the fight on legendary!

My favorite non-combat moment is probably the transition from the cut scene to the level, at the start of the last level. Especially the way the music transitions and keeps on playing from the cutsene into the level and perfectly sets and describes the mood for this beautifully eerie snowy, desolate environment, knowing its the last level. I loved that first time through too.

Died one more time than you and took me a little longer (51min), but for the most part exact same experience. Actually enjoyed the level on legendary too, which was surprising.

I'd prefer that mode if it was simply the first team to eliminate the other and there being no respawns
