...I had the weirdest dream in which Luke ended up owning my friend at Halo 3. Not me for some reason, I wasn't playing.

0_o

Then I think I popped up in the game somewhere where some other Bungie employee owned me. Lars, Frankie, or someone else. Can't remember.

Then we were all talking about it in a saved film, but Luke wasn't there because he only goes to saved films in Construct or Narrows...

This was quite possibly one of my weirdest video-game dreams yet, the other one being about Justice League Heroes (I rarely have video-game dreams, but when I do, they are weird). I'm trying to figure out what enacted a dream like that, I think I may have ate Wendy's Chili the night before I had the dream...

I need to stop playing Halo or eating Wendy's Chili, or just doing a combo of both at night. It messes with the mind! @_@

So after everyone has done their Legendary run-throughs, what do you guys think is the difficulty to play on?

I personally like to stay at Heroic, because it is challenging, yet you still feel like a bad-ass.

So if you were going to go back through on Halo 3 on any difficulty would it be Heroic or Legendary?

Legendary. I cannot go through Halo 3 on any lesser difficulty now, it just doesn't feel the same. I'm currently on my third Legendary play-through, so I decided to turn on a few skulls to mix things up a bit. My plan is to eventually go through the Campaign, by myself, with every single skull turned on.

Is that even possible on Legendary? I forgot which skull it was, but doesn't one end up taking you back to the beginning of the level if you die without a co-op partner? Wouldn't that mean that you couldn't die (unless you wanted to restart levels quite often)?

I think it's definitely possible. It's the Iron Skull that takes you back to the beginning once you die on solo. (if you play through co-op and one player dies it just takes you back to the last checkpoint) And yes, that would mean I can't die even once, on any level.

Haha. What a cruel victory. That's a nice touch.

You know who that guy was? Me. :lol :lol

Edit: Well, I don't know if I was the first guy, but you did send me the film clip of awesomeness after the match. I enjoyed it. :lol

Man, do you make me feel like weaksauce!
Whenever I try to go through on Legendary I just got frustrated. The first level is just really annoying, you pop out and you get laid the fuck out.

Yes it does. I can get a grenade pretty much anywhere on the top level at will. If you're upset with folks camping the purple lifts, there are countless tools available to solve the problem. Most people just run headlong into the purple lifts and then Q.Q when they get gang banged. Construct is a thinking man's map! :D

I got my first Killing Frenzy on construct yesterday, put it in my fileshare too!

How do you get out that far?

Well, you certainly are a brave one. I may or may not try THAT later, but I have to get much, much better first. I am NOT the best Halo player.

Enemies would simply drop their weapons and die on the spot, upon seeing that particular "permutation". Sort of like the Energy Drain, but for souls.

Whoa...

It could be like a flare, because Spartans are pale. Reflective God Rays!

I hear we unlock it by doing something special in 'The Covenant'.

Come on guys, we can find it! Believe.

Incredible... I love how Bungie always fully creates maps, to the point where the area where we're actually supposed to be is just a fraction of the entire map - just because they know someone is going to find a way to get out...

Reminds me of the huge snow map that was DLC in Halo 2 (can't remember the name at the moment, the one with a gigantic base on either side with gates you could open) that when you got out of it and climbed all the way up, it was f'ing huge, and the people who were still down below were the size of dots... fun as hell back then...

No no no. The big secret is, beating the game on Legendary, solo, with all skulls on in one sitting and never dying unlocks the Recon armor.

So true. Nothing like jumping out of Gemini and trying to walk to the ends of the level box thinking maybe, just maybe, you could walk to that gigantic structure in the background.

Too bad these new levels have nothing but freaking death walls everywhere. Geez. Way to take the fun out of everything.

I thought you had to beat the game on legendary with only the wrench?

Wait, didn't someone or other a while back say like "the ultimate challenge is to beat the game with all the skulls in a certain amount of time"?

Or maybe I just said that. I don't know. I can't remember if I actually read that or not.

Except for the fact that it's impossible to beat the game like that.

Black Eye. I died on normal.

:(

I just got my first Overkill in Lone Wolves, and I didn't even notice until the Achievement things popped up, because I'm only really conditioned to recognize "Killtacular!" So after the match I went back to see when and how I did it, and it is pretty fucking awesome:

epiover00.jpg

Just died in the hill and respawned by one of the big mancannons which is pretty much the best situation possible.

epiover01.jpg

Toss grenade number one into the fray while I prepare to land on the middle platform.

epiover02.jpg

Oshi -- my grenade bounced off the ground and then the column to perfectly follow VICTIM #1's jump trajectory. Sorry dude.

epiover03b.jpg

Easily fill this sniping chump up with lead as I approach for the smack kill. VICTIM #2 down ;_;

epiover03.jpg

Hop down towards sky blue bitch, tossing grenade number two towards the door as I notice the red blip closing in on the radar.

epiover04.jpg

Oshi -- my grenade explodes right as he walks over it after entering the annexe, softening him up for me to deal with in a second.

epiover05.jpg

Ring around the rosy doesn't save sky blue bitch, and he becomes VICTIM #3 with a quick whack to the back.

epiover06.jpg

Another melee finishes off VICTIM #4, and the hill is mine as everyone else in the game waits to respawn.

I really miss the "Killtacular!" soundbyte :(

Nice. Im still yet to get my overkill :( Its weird... in the beta I got heaps.
Yeah, I think it's a lot rarer because grenades were much stronger in the beta. There are far fewer kills from the grave this time around, so that makes getting four that much more difficult. I'm secretly hoping they give grenades a bit more power sometime soon, since they're a key part of my Halo 1 play.

must say i'm a bit torn on this one. its just one of those maps where one team camps that upper level and guards the 3 lifts (2 purple and orange) with battle rifles and maulers (and sniper, sword). most people dont even realize
you can run up the diagonal beams from below to where the sword is for a surprise attack
. if your playing with a teammate that knows how to handle the map, its fun. you can definitely get some tug of war matches for that valuable upper level, much like the battles you'd get for the tower in lockout.

construct actually reminds me more of ivory tower than lockout in the way it plays.

I agree with Luke, my teams rarely lose control on construct cause we're quick to turn around and find a different approach when ascending. Its all about comunication on that map.

yeah, thats a better example actually. but all three have that same battle that inevitably takes place over and over again for control of "the spot".

i guess most of my negativity concerned with construct is i just dont find it visually appealing (despite that incredible waterfall)

My biggest construct complaint is that it features plasma grenades on a map that would be perfect for spike grenades... so many good corners to throw them around.

Also needlers would dominate that map if they appeared for better or worse. I think the hallways are the perfect length and narrow-ness to turn a needler into the ultimate go-to weapon.

I love how construct plays, but I too don't find it pleasing to the eyes. It does not look bad, but it does not look great either.

My main issue is that the visuals on that map are "boring," it does not exploit cool features like the waterfall.

Spike grenades only work good in small areas. Construct does not have a lot of those types of areas.

Construct has alot more small areas than you think. Most of the hallways are pretty narrow, and look where 90% of the battles take place... upstairs in tight hallways around lifts.

yeah, and its not the forerunner architecture that makes it dull either, as the similar structure in campaign looks great. not sure what it is actually...

and the plasma nades are PERFECT for the landing pad in front of the orange lift when you hear that "whooosh" noise :D

I actually really like Construct's look and play, and even feel.

I don't know why, but the thought of me walking in the middle section of Construct while there's two dudes sword dueling above me, and a BR fest going on below me makes me feel like I'm just lost in a frat party in a three-story building. Comotion up and down and all around me, while I casually walk around the middle floor. :P

has there been much of a discussion on the maps in halo 3? what are some of everyones favorites/least favorites?

i LOVE the pit. its just a great map for a variety of play styles. i love the weapon placement and look, but wish that the two mirrored sides were distinguished from each other a bit (hard to communicate enemy locations as is). maybe rather then yellow throughout, have a red and blue side? also, the shooting gallery esque cutouts are awesome and can provide really tense gameplay.

by the way ghaleon, if you still care, i did my halo presentation tonight. went over really well with a surprising number of people that are familiar with it and have even played it (a teacher credential program of all females - except me). i wonder if bungie had any idea how great saved films and the screenshot ferature would be for making powerpoint presentations :P

Sounds like at least one of the bonus tracks will be a fan recording. Not too thrilled with that, but as long as the non-Marty/Michael music is just a track or two it's not a big deal (just don't go anywhere near the ratio of the Halo 2 Volume 1 Soundtrack).

After asking you guys about solo Legendary, I thought I'd jump into it and give it a try. Forty-five minutes later, I completed my first level, Sierra 117(naturally) on Legendary by myself.

Needless to say, I don't think I could ever go back to heroic. It is hard to get into Legendary, because their a very different pace to Halo on Legendary, and if you are too used to the lower difficulties (like I was) you are going to have a hard time adapting. Well finally, something just clicked. After dying for the fifth time on the first large encounter, it just clicked. I knew how to play Legendary the right way, and since then I must have died like five times throughout the rest of the whole level, and most of those were due to those god damn jackals.

The point of all this is, if you love the singleplayer and haven't tried out Legendary, you are really missing out on the best Halo experience.

Seriously, go play it now on Legendary, because it is intense and so fun.
