Is the Arbiter really just that much of a dick that he didn't want to tell them so MC was stuck out there all this time? Maybe he wants MC out of the way so he can wipe-out the human race without their saviour getting in his way?

The Arbiter believes the Chief to be dead as does the rest of humanity. The Chief didn't die, however, but the portal sent him somewhere else, presumably inside our galaxy. The Halo ring's firing couldn't be sustained and blew apart, destroying the Ark and itself, wiping out the Flood. At the very end of the game, beyond the cinematic showing the Chief's survival, is a brief one (only appearing on Legendary) which shows the severed ship with the Chief aboard is heading to some sort of populated world with faint architecture that appeared Forerunner.

"Idot"? Did you just make up a story and then believe it? He told me to stop living in my parents basement. I told him "I don't I have my own place". He continued to rag and asked "what have you done with your life besides play Halo?" I said "I went to college." BAM! He knew, and then he continued to talk shit. So no, I didn't call him a redneck. I'm harmless. But if someone starts talkin mess to me first, it gets me heated.

Thanks for making a bunch of sense when I wasn't. I didn't even realise what you say about everyone being able to see it. Also big thanks for the bit about the end of the Legendary credits, I didn't get to see that for myself yet.
 
Alright time to bitch.
I may as well be playing against bots.
The games I have played are almost DEAD SILENT as far as chat goes. Really takes away from that Halo Multiplayer feel. Half don't have mics in and the other half that have mics plugged in don't speak into them or they are finding the dpad to talk as bad an idea as I do.
Anyone else dissapointed in this or would you rather be playing without hearing 8th graders anyways.
Pretty bummed about all the silent Master Chiefs. =(

Master Chief never appears in multiplayer.

My impression was that the entire ship did make it into the portal. The Arbiter's half came out while the portal was still stable, but the explosion of installation 04 destabilized the portal causing it to close. It was during this destabilization that the second half of the ship was flung into some unknown part of the galaxy/universe. I'm pretty sure if the second half of the ship didn't make it through the portal, the explosion of installation 04 would have killed Cortana and the Chief.

Essentially the Chief and Cortana are in the middle of Bumblefuck, Space, waiting for something or anything to come along. This sets up the Chief & Cortana for essentially a blank slate/brand new story arc. Perhaps finding living Forerunners or a completely new alien races? Maybe finding a different shield world? Endless possibilities...

This makes sense too. More sense to me, actually.
I'm looking forward to a Sims: Master Chief edition where you look after MC on the ship in his day-to-day life. Maybe grab some space junk as it flies past the window and use it to decorate your room.

Can't watch the video here at work, but if I had to review it the only major thing I don't like about Halo 3 is the countless Cortana/Gravemind sequences.

Finished the Fight last night (finally). I sort of agree and disagree with Yahtzee about the single player campaign in that it feels like it's the shortest of the 3 (most likely because there are fewer areas to explore and, like certain film trilogies, there's a shit ton of big epic battles and no real story to speak of) and the difficulty curve is all over the map at times.

Not that that matters too much, since the battles the game presents us with are fucking epic and provide some of the most fun I've had in a single player experience since, well, BioShock. However, unlike that leviathan, Halo 3 doesn't fall apart near game's end -- though the opening missions kind of drag and feel like they were only put there to lengthen the campaign. But once everyone makes their way to the Ark, the game pretty much grabs you by the balls and refuses to stop squeezing until the finale (which, like Halo's before it, is fucking awesome).

Is it GOTY material? Absolutely, but with games like BioShock already here, and The Orange Box, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl still to come, it won't be as easy to award the Master Chief his Best in Show crown as it was back in '04.

One is still on earth and I'm shocked she didn't make an appearance in Halo 3. Of course she could have had some impact during the time frame, just no story, but if you read the graphic novel Maria (can't remember her number) is on earth retired. She retired to "start a family", and she is the one that tested the Mark VI suit for John.

Again all this comes from the graphic novel, which I believe to be part of the Halo Universe. I find it hard to believe though that since she can wear the Mark VI armor that she wouldn't suit up when the covenant attacked Earth. If you were a retired Spartan... living on Earth with your family and had the ability to kick some Covenant ass would you sit around and wait for the UNSC to do the job? Especially when it looked like humanity was at its end? I think in that situation someone with the training she had as a Spartan would suit back up to fight for Humanity...

I didn't mind them.
They were infrequent at the beginning and then ramped up steadily as you were getting closer and closer to finding Cortana that it added to the tension and excitement of doing so for me.
My girlfriend said "that'd annoy me if I was playing this" but I actually liked them. Were they used to disguise loading at all? I just thought that once while I was playing it, but then I realised there's not much in-your-face loading throughout the rest of the game that they probably weren't.

I too enjoyed them the first time through, but when viewing films or playing co-op, they really become a nuisance to me.
 
why is lone wolves and rumble pit not working??

ive tried to play now for the last 20 minutes and have been stuck at the finding players screen.

I don't care to communicate too much on matchmaking - actually, I don't like communicating at all on matchmaking.

I agree with everything you said but as of now I don't care for the
Legendary
ending. I think it defeats the closure from the first one which was so Halo 1-ish. I'm sure this will change with time, but as of right now, that's my feeling about it.

'Start' in the lobby, press right on the D-Pad and select 'Voice Communication.' From there, turn 'Matchmaking' to 'Team and Party Only.'

Yeah, not going to happen. Firstly, she's not a Spartan and secondly, I don't think Bungie will ever intend to use her that way.

Agreed. Should have been removed from metagames. There's no need to hear or see that stuff after the first ten playthroughs.
 
To get into achievement matches:
1. At the dashboard, go to the furthest tab on the right and select console settings.
2. Go down to Language and select the last Asian language.
3. Start Halo 3 and go to Matchmaking (3rd option from very top one).
4. Go to Ranked -> Lone Wolves.
5. Hit X and select 4th option.
6. Start matchmaking
(before the match begins, mention what achievements you need)

NOTES:
- most likely, you will not be paired with people on your friends list
- the achievements will appear as that Asian laguage on your console (everyone else will see it as English)

To change the achievements back into English:
1. Make sure language is back into English.
A. Go to the tab furthest on the right and select the first option.
B. Go down to the fourth option and hit A.
2. Sign out.
3. Select recover gamertag.
4. Enter all the info and accept.

I've been trying this for 10 minutes and no one is even on. If anyone wants to try and hop on now I'm on trying this.. In the matchmaking wait line. Would love to get a few of these hard ones knocked out.

Oh yeah, I didn't think of that. I haven't done much co-op yet, nor have I watched any campaign films besides one of a mate and I teabagging the first Brute of the game. I can see how that could suck the fifth or sixth time through.
 
I'd like to know
how Gravemind was communicating with MC - it felt like The Darkness. Good idea about the Forerunner planet at the end though - I was wondering why there are no FRs on the Ark.

I think it wraps up the Trilogy well...but still leaves room for a new trilogy that can be different on many levels...here is hoping Bungie is still at the helm whenever this comes about.

No. Because when Lord Hood addresses the issue, the Arbiter says
"Were it so easy." The Arbiter assumes that the Chief is still alive.

im gtting extremely frustrated with Forge, for some reason this 1 object that is critical for the game i made keeps disappearing and respawning on its own
