The best line I've heard in the game was "Don't worry. We'll kill him tomorrow!". Surprisingly enough, it came out of a Brute, not a Grunt.

LOL

It was tough as heck to beat that level.

This is where I spent the last hour and twenty minutes. I hit a checkpoint while huddled behind the two small buildings in the bottom pic. I've taken out one Chieftain (finding that sniper rifle was an OMFG thank you Jesus moment), and have two shots left in his Fuel Rod Cannon. Besides that, I've got a AR, and a dropped Spiker in range. I can use that to take out the last two jump pack Brutes on the rock to the right of the two buildings, as pictured. If I'm lucky, at least one of them will have their Carbine roll down the rocks. If it doesn't, I can use grenades to knock them down, but those are scarce. I kinda need them, since the 20 remaining Brutes refuse to come into range - they're being smart about it. I can actually hear them, laughing at how I'm pinned down and how they should let me come to them. Just now, I got a nice bead on the Chieftain - through the windows - and, before I'd even fired a shot, he dropped a Bubble Shield. I might be mistaken, but I think he said, "Suck on this one*" when he did so.

Oh, and the tank has the uncanny ability to shoot not where I am, but where I'm going - no matter what direction that may be. Around corners, through windows, inside doors - you name it, it's nailed me there. Once I got around the corner in time, and it proceeded to pound the last spot was was standing for a good thirty seconds straight, just in case I decided to pop my head out. I'm like, I get the point already. You have a very big gun.

I'm feeling a bit like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, holed up in this little hut while the army gathers around, waiting for me to charge out. I think I'll manage to beat this part tomorrow. If I start early enough, anyways.

The really amazing thing was, I was having fun the whole time.

*That might have been my imagination.

Anyone else having problems with the player snapshots on bungie.net?
I can't see them either.

By the way, anyone know how to lower your gun? I know theres some button combination but I don't know how to do it.

So I just finished the single player. Went with heroic on my first play through. Some thoughts.

-Best game on xbox 360(sorry Bioshock)

-ground combat better than halo 2, will have to play legendary to see if it's better than halo:CE. So far CE is a little better.

-fighting scarabs=gaming nirvana. Perfection really. Actually vehicles in Halo 3 are pretty much perfect and were used perfectly.

-I dismissed level 8 as the "library" of halo 3. But the last level was a letdown too.
I was hoping to fight something smarter than flood for the finale, warthog part was better in Halo 1

-You don't really get to use the Banshee unless you jack one. Some weapons got lost. Where was the rocket launcher? I remember some flood dropping it, that's it. Flame thrower was not nearly as fun as I thought it would be. No reason to use shotgun, there was always a sword/hammer to do that job.

Also, I know it's too early to talk about. But I could definetly see something like Halo 3: Episode 1 with some Arbiter levels

I've played 200 rounds of multiplayer, now:

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/Default.aspx?player=ErrorJustin

108 Ranked
29 Social
63 Custom

.91 K/D Ratio (and climbing, slowly, slowly)
Highest Rank: 13, in Team Slayer and Lone Wolves
Total EXP: 81 (Lieutenant)

...all this and I haven't even TOUCHED single player, yet :lol :lol

I'd like to run through it on Legendary a single time to nab the skulls & achievements, though. Anyone need a Legendary playing buddy? I'm available nightly from (roughly) 8PM-midnight, pacific time.

how the hell did you get an overkill...I take it that it wasn't in lone wolf?

I got mine playing CTF on Valhalla. We were defending. I grabbed the missile pod. Mongoose comes over the hill... double kill. Warthog follows it... overkill.... :D :D

Edit: That same moment gave me my Extermination medal.

A friend and I just got through playing Co-op over XBL on Sierra-117.

We encountered an invincible Chieftain. Also all the marines that were supposed to be with Johnson were dead in the area they're held in, and Johnson was wayyyy back where you first hear the Arbiter say "See how they bait their trap?" Wtf?

The film's in my File Share if anyone wants to watch it. Gamertag's Ajemsuhga0. The brute doesn't come in until about 15 minutes or so if I remember correctly.

There are all sorts of skulls. Some give the enemies more health, or cause them to throw more grenades, and one causes Grunts heads to explode with confetti, accompanied by the "hooray!"ing of children. And another one switches the dialogue ration of common and rare dialogue, so you hear rare dialogue the most.

Edit: Beaten. Hard.

Yeah me and a couple friends have been playing legendary co-op with 6 gold skulls and 3 sliver skulls. We were playing Tsavo HWY the other night and we counted 17 Brutes and 3 Chieftains at one point... so tough but so so fun:D

anyone beat 41k on Sierra 117 for campaign scoring?

Yeah Ive beat all levels for campaign scoring. I play on normal with4 or 5 skulls. Really easy.

A good way to beat Sierra 117 is to go for the time bonus since its a really short level.

Anyone noticed that the Heroic medal for the level "The Covenant" has transparency effects on the top sword, compared to the heroic medals of the other levels? Probably an earlier unfinished version of that medal they forgot to take out!

Yep. I was wondering if it meant anything, so I asked ferrex about it. He said he didn't know and to ask one of the campaign guys. I haven't, though. It's probably just a graphical mistake. Weird, though.

Also, after practically going insane with frustration, I've finally achieved 1000/1000 gamerpoints. :D

You betcha. It's labeled as "Katana" in the Body section of the armour permutations. I got the Security helmet, too, but it's just about the most retarded thing I've ever seen in my life. :lol

Just finished it on Heroic, very good game. The ending was good enough also. I still missed the battle rifle's rounds from Halo 1. It was the bread and butter mechanic from CE, they shouldn't have killed it in H2.

I just went through the first few stages in heroic after days of Legendary in single and co-op. Holy crap it's cake walk now! I wasn't trying very hard but couple of them I didn't die once. :lol

Would you guys say there are many people using the "Scout" armour/helmet?

I'm using the EVA armour/helmet at the moment and fancy a change and it seems like everyone is going to be using the Hayabusa helmet so I'll give that a miss lol

Anyone got a decent pic of the full scout suit?

Oh you lucky bastard... just when I convinced myself that I would get my last 3 Achievements "eventually" - now you remind why I need them all as soon as possible - gahhhhhh!

I have a video on my File Share where I actually dedicated the entire matcch to Laser Kills from 2 days ago - and nobody friggin showed up until the last 10 seconds, where I got six Laser Kills in a row, including the last two being the Double Kill - right after the game ended... sonofa...

Due to not being able to search for campaign multiplayer games I shall ask here, is anyone going to be doing any 4 player legendary sometime? i've only done co-op twice now with 1 other person.

Also I would love to play forge made maps with people but being stuck on a non open NAT means half of my gaf friends list I cannot connect too (because they also are not set to open nat). its a pain in the behinds.

I hope bungie.net develops an easy way to export and display stats to forums.
Especially that top bar with your 6 highest medals, highest skill etc, just screams for mygamercard.net functionality. Same with the player snapshot, career stats and medal chest.

Just to add to this oddity, the Legendary medal for Floodgate has a slightly different transparency on the skull/head compared to the other medals. I DEMAND A REFUND!

Did you ever get Sporsk's NAT settings sorted?

I'm cancelling my Halo 3 pre-order in theory as my fingers are typing this very post.

How long does it take for your Service Record to show up at bungie.net? It's been over 12 hours and nada. Some pages say Last Seen: 10.1.07, but I can't access my page :(

Has anyone had severe (I'm talking slide show here, no exaggeration) frame rate problems playing co-op? Me and two buddies played Sierra 117 on Legendary last night and the frame rate was in the single digits most of the time. No idea what was going on. I played Team Doubles with one of them after that for a good 2 hours and never had any problems. Prior to the three of us doing co-op, I did two player co-op with the same guy I did Team Doubles with and had the same frame rate issues. Is it possible for your network connection to cause severe frame rate loss in co-op, or is my launch system starting to go again? =/

For me, 'Tsavo Highway' was the toughest point when I played through campaign solo on Legendary. When I did that run-through, I gave up hope on clearing out the Brutes and used a fallen tripmine to block their pursuit as I ran for the Wraith. BR'd the sniper and the Wraith's gunner and boarded the enemy craft successfully. This was after about an hour of very horrible trial and error at the same exact checkpoint and once I did that, I decimated the rest of the level.

Since then, I've developed a few tactics for 'Tsavo'. Yesterday I played through that level solo on Heroic with campaign scoring on and turned on a few skulls (Tough Luck, Fog, Famine, Thunderstorm and Mythic - proof). The key to that one section, by yourself, is passing it completely. Some people claim to do it with the Chopper, but I didn't try.

I had been successful with passing all of the previous areas without any real loss by using the impressively-enabled Troop Hog packed full of Marines, one carrying the first FRG found by the crashed Phantom at the start of the level. Marines have infinite ammo, so when they have heavy weaponry and they're riding on your vehicle, you're getting massive points (with good and patient driving), even with Tough Luck, Thunderstorm and Mythic turned on.

Before passing the first barrier shield, the one with the Drone ambush, there's a couple of bunkers. Grab the anti-gravity pad from one of them and use it to cross the break in the highway with the Troop Hog. None of the Marines will get back into your vehicle, but I know a properly driven Troop Hog can pass that area with relative ease and do so long before the Wraith and additional Phantoms arrive, just make sure you get your FRG back from the dude carrying it.

Once you've arrived at the parked Choppers before the final large-scale battle, splatter the two Brutes and give one of the remaining Marines your FRG, having them load on shotgun with their overturned Warthog. Even though the Hog is a LAAG variant, the FRG Marine and the LAAG can carefully deal with the Choppers and the Wraiths if you handle them all very carefully. You just have to drive well.

Yeah. I was doing 3p co-op the other day and it lagged, especially my controller felt unresponsive. Did 2p co-op and it was great. It's probably due to bad connection.

Regarding Tsavo Highway, I'm also at that infamous section on legendary. So you just drive through it with the brutechopper? Is there one in close proximity?
I won't be able to try this till thursday though, as I'm at uni atm.
The previous encounter to that I charged/snuck up on the Brute FRG Hero, so I was too close for him to use his rod. Avoided his melee attack, shotgun to the face, melee and again shotgun to the face. Downed him pretty fast. I love doing this to brutes, cause it's risky and you have to be very quick about it.
With hunters it's even harder to fight them up close.
