Has anyone had severe (I'm talking slide show here, no exaggeration) frame rate problems playing co-op? Me and two buddies played Sierra 117 on Legendary last night and the frame rate was in the single digits most of the time. No idea what was going on. I played Team Doubles with one of them after that for a good 2 hours and never had any problems. Prior to the three of us doing co-op, I did two player co-op with the same guy I did Team Doubles with and had the same frame rate issues. Is it possible for your network connection to cause severe frame rate loss in co-op, or is my launch system starting to go again? =/

Alot of people don't realise it, but when the game freezes for a split second, it's loading... and it happens a bit more when you are running pass enemies, and I noticed that it happens more frequently/lasts a bit longer when you leave enemies behind and have more load up in front - because even when you go back, those enemies are still there for you to kill...

I never had these "framerate problems" when playing meta-games because it's a four-way bum-rush to kill everything in sight before someone else grabs the points and moves on, but whenever we were rushing through to get to a Skull, we'd trigger loading and checkpoints quite often, making it load...

I'm positive that this is the case, as Halo 3 has been nothing but a rock-solid 30fps when it doesn't load in that split second - something alt of games out right now can't do... and you gotta appreciate the work put into that...

Yeah I had that too. It kept making me the host regardless of who was party leader (this comes from the assumption that the player using the Master Chief is the Host) and my connection just doesn't like doing that at all.

Yeah. I was doing 3p co-op the other day and it lagged, especially my controller felt unresponsive. Did 2p co-op and it was great. It's probably due to bad connection.

Well, I guess that's good to know. That explains why I was MC the second time in the three player co-op even though I didn't start the party as well. Damn you, Bellsouth/AT&T and your weak DSL upload speed!

Regarding Tsavo Highway, I'm also at that infamous section on legendary. So you just drive through it with the brutechopper? Is there one in close proximity?
I won't be able to try this till thursday though, as I'm at uni atm.
I don't remember anything big when I did 4p co-op. Everything was fine, framerate and lag.

Yeah, it depends on the player hosting it or a player with a bad connection.
My connection is good enough for 12-16 MP matches and probably 4P co-op too.

This is where I spent the last hour and twenty minutes. I hit a checkpoint while huddled behind the two small buildings in the bottom pic. I've taken out one Chieftain (finding that sniper rifle was an OMFG thank you Jesus moment), and have two shots left in his Fuel Rod Cannon. Besides that, I've got a AR, and a dropped Spiker in range. I can use that to take out the last two jump pack Brutes on the rock to the right of the two buildings, as pictured. If I'm lucky, at least one of them will have their Carbine roll down the rocks. If it doesn't, I can use grenades to knock them down, but those are scarce. I kinda need them, since the 20 remaining Brutes refuse to come into range - they're being smart about it. I can actually hear them, laughing at how I'm pinned down and how they should let me come to them. Just now, I got a nice bead on the Chieftain - through the windows - and, before I'd even fired a shot, he dropped a Bubble Shield. I might be mistaken, but I think he said, "Suck on this one*" when he did so.

Oh, and the tank has the uncanny ability to shoot not where I am, but where I'm going - no matter what direction that may be. Around corners, through windows, inside doors - you name it, it's nailed me there. Once I got around the corner in time, and it proceeded to pound the last spot was was standing for a good thirty seconds straight, just in case I decided to pop my head out. I'm like, I get the point already. You have a very big gun.

LOL, I was doing that spot on legendary a couple of days ago, and yes I spent over an hour at that exact spot trying to ease my way out of there. Finally I did it, andI have to say it was one of the most intense and rewarding moments I've had in gaming as I can recall.

Same here and I'm absolutely infuriated. It certainly was difficult on Heroic difficulty, but Legendary is a whole other ballgame. On one of my last tries I discovered there's is a big gun rack laying on the ground containing 4 Battle Rifles. Those helped considerably, but the problem is that I just can't get any angles to shoot because of the stupid concrete barrier in front of the buildings. It forces me to have to expose myself by the front sides of the buildings to get any shots on the Brutes. That tactic just invites a slew of gunfire from everyone and everything.

So, it almost becomes a stalemate. They won't come after me and its suicide to try to force anything by exposing myself.

I've tried cutting back across to the area where I first entered by the overturned 18-wheelers, but that's a bad idea because I run out of ammo way too quickly.

If I could just take out the Wraith that would help immensely. There's just absolutely nothing to do that with. I guess I'm kinda stuck back there.

Now that I've finished the single-player I've gone back through this thread and seeing people post their K/D ratios and such has prompted me to do the same.

Ranked Stats
Kills : 831
Deaths : 571
K/D Ratio : 1.46

Social Stats
Kills : 1235
Deaths : 654
K/D Ratio : 1.89

Nothing of interest to me there. Social playlists have more casual players so I'm able to rack up a greater ratio than in Ranked but then I looked at the kills I get off each weapon and I was kind of surprised.

Ranked Stats
Assault Rifle: 189
Battle Rifle: 94

Social Stats
Assault Rifle: 219
Battle Rifle: 255

Firstly I was surprised that I actually get more kills with the Assault Rifle than I thought - I'm always seeking out the Battle Rifle and prefer to use it, plus I actually thought I did use it more than I must. But what seemed strange to me is that I've gotten 161 more kills in Social and it's about on par with the AR compared to half the kills in Ranked. How does that work? I mean, why am I using the BR more in Social than I am in Ranked? Or maybe the people in Social playlists don't understand how great the BR is and them leaving it on the ground gives me more chance to use it? Hmm, strange.

Also there needs to be more guys running around with the emblem I'm using:

If you think there's anything greater than a cat in a matching cowboy hat and bowtie than you've got problems. No, not even a unicorn rates higher. However a unicorn in a cowboy hat is probably on par.

I've been rotating the cat's background, some days it's a Cowboy hat, others it's a cross or flag, but it's always a cat.

New avatar check.

This happened to me last night. I like to call it "uh oh". I didn't realize I had got stuck on the head until I went back to watch the replay. I find myself going and watching the replay after every match now. There is lways something crazy happening. Had a K/D ratio hovering slightly above .90 until I got raped in a couple shotty sniper matches. I hate shotty snipers.

You can definitely be my friend. I'd like to encourage the cowboy hat over all else though.

WHAT THE FUCK BUNGIE?

I'm trying to get the first skull in the game, Iron. When I go to the location, it's NOT THERE. I'm in Normal difficulty playing solo, so it should be there. However, I began the level at the checkpoint right before that part. Do you have to BEGIN the level then play through the whole thing for skulls to count?

Yes.

Ranked K: 65
Ranked D: 67
K/D: 0.97

OH YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Assault Rifle: 23
Arm of Manslaughter: 12

Social K: 58
Social D: 67
K/D: 0.87

Arm of Manslaughter: 22
Assault Rifle: 13

I need to do more of that.

What is wrong with the Up Close and Personal achievement?

I scored 8 melee kills in a ranked team slayer match, but I got no achievement.

You read Ghaleon's problem but you ignored my simple solution. Heh.

Ranked stats
Kills : 894
Deaths : 569
K/D Ratio : 1.57

The only map I have a negative K/D ratio on is Isolation. My best map seems to be construct, I have a 2.47 K/D on that one, but that's with like 3 or 4 games played on it.
Seems about right, since I hate Isolaton but Construct is one of my favs.

Up Close and Personal

Killed 5 enemies by melee or assassination in a ranked free for all playlist.

Damn Lone Wolves......

Stats!

Ranked
Kills : 678
Deaths : 408
K/D Ratio : 1.66

Social
Kills : 965
Deaths : 463
K/D Ratio : 2.08

Not too bad to begin with, still only using a 2 sensitivity.

Anyone know if it's possible to use the fuel rod gun in multiplayer - Forge or otherwise?

Unrelated: Fucking sucks there's no more trip mine on Valhalla. I put that sucker to good use many times in the beta. Sandtrap is too damn big to use it very often on.

Combining the Catch and Thunderstorm skulls on Legendary is ridiculous. Dear god, it's like every grunt has suddenly turned into an unstoppable killing machine. They don't even need the brutes anymore, they can just bury their enemies in plasma grenades.

Catch is brutal. I had it turned on for a metagame on Heroic last night and I kept on getting stuck by grunts. I had to switch it out for something else. Speaking of metagame - I had a fun time on my first try with this. I barely cleared the limit on Sierra 117 because the friend I was playing with killed most of the enemies (he's somewhat skilled, whereas I'm not). There were plenty of points on the board, but most of them went to him.

Naw...I saw it. Just seems too last ditch for me right now. I'm still certain I can pass this area using the weapons I have.

Where exactly do you put the gravlift? In front of the barriers or in the middle where that little slot is?

I just finished the fight :)

A really enjoyable game overall, even level 8 imo, so congrats Bungie, you guys really nailed it.

I'll probably replay solo on legendary next, or possibly in coop, and i'll be trying not to get too hooked on MP :D

Now i can finally highlight all of the spoiler tags in here ^^

Btw how many skulls did you all find in your first play through (without guides etc)? While just playing through it casually, and doing a bit of exploring here and there, i only managed to find 3 :lol And i think 5 terminals. I might just use a guide to find the rest next time, at least i can say i tried it on my own once :p

I just dug into the ARG, (thanks button basher, IBeechu, Dhalo, ect).

HOLY SHIT. So many questions answered, so many things in the game make more sense now.

Now i just need to find all the terminals, I'm starting to... understand.

Nice...I found 0 of either...I went through first on Legendary with 2 other people...one of the guys found two skulls...I was too busy killing :)

The slot. Make sure there's room.

I've heard that there's a website with all of the terminal information on it and I'm trying to find it now. If someone knows where it is, drop us a line here.

Gah! My quest for those begins immediately (when I get home from work and put the kids to bed - so okay twelve hours isn't immidiate.....). My top priority is taking down the Chieftain. Once he's down, I can pick off the other Brutes pretty easy from range, and then use the Fuel Rod Cannon and proximity mines to take out the Wraith.

I'll find that cache and then start a round where I snag Carbines from the jump pack Brutes, bail out to the angle of the initial approach and BR/Carbine the Chieftain to death.

Voc's solution is a good one, but it won't work with the particulars of my fight. They enemy is arranged slightly differently than in the screens IJoel posted. The large group on the far side is all clustered just behind the pipes, a Chieftain is behind them, and just behind him is the Wraith, so there's no way I can get to it. Just poking my head around the corner results in a huge volley of Carbine, Spiker, plasma mortar and fuel rod explosions. I need to take out the linchpin.

This is the kind of hard I like - having to find the right tactic. In Halo 2 it was hard because the Chief was fragile, not because of anything the enemies did.

The rack is in the building on the left (from the Wraith's perspective).

And you might want to check the number of Chieftans. I almost certain there are three. Perhaps you killed a couple before the checkpoint though?

okay, some of the things I gleaned from the amazing iris vids. Seriously, my mind is blowing up right. BLOWING UP.

Some things gleaned from the ARG,

1) We are related to the fore-runner, but not some kind of child of the forerunner that lost all knowledge of tech after the halo rings fired. Possibly both us and the forerunner are related to some other acient race.

2) The fore-runner didn't build the Ark, they found the ark, and built their buildings and structures upon it.

3) The Forerunner found us, and built a portal for us to be brought to earth and repopulate it after the rings fired. That I think is the connection between the ark and Earth, not a basic connection, but one the fore-runners formed.

4) Gravemind is the flood, and the flood is gravemind. One of the servers on halo.bungie.org has the message that basically states that the intelligence is central, and that is it's weakness. So Destroying Halo 004, destroying the ark, and destroying high charity will destroy gravemind and that will destroy the flood. Utlimately, it's intelligence is it's downfall. Brilliant, that clears up some loose ends nicely.

I know this is probably about 2 weeks behind the curve, so if I've got something wrong, please correct me :). Now I need to find those terminals, which gets me all hot and bothered, since not only are they important to the plot, they are also on some of the best levels in the game :).

And thanks for the links to the terminal scripts, but I want to find them in game, I dunno, cooler that way I think :).

Go to your Bungie.net profile and edit it. In the Profile Information tab, it's on the bottom along with the option for Halo 2.

What I ended up doing there, and it feels utterly cheap, but it wasn't out of me wanting to be cheap was:
1. From the place where the sniper rifle is, take down the guys with carbines (most are the rocket wielding brutes). With the available ammo, aim, and some luck, your mob count should be reduced a good 8-9 or so. Make sure to take out the bastard brute, far back, on the sniper platform with a carbine rifle.
2. Hug the right side, which isn't covered with brutes. Use the broken tunnels and you should be able to clear the area with no problem. Now, here's the disappointing part for me. After I did that, I got a checkpoint, some guys with choppers showed up, and the remaining brutes from the previous area simply disappeared. I was SO disappointed. It felt like the battle was stolen from me. My plan was to grab the carbine rifle from the guy on the sniper platform, and take out the remaining brutes. I also didn't know about the battle rifle rack back then. Curses!

I WILL return to that area again in Legendary once I finish my first legendary run. BTW, I've cleared levels 4, 5, and 6 after that, and strangely enough, they feel easy. Almost easier than heroic. Go figure.

*shakes fist at Bungie*
