I was thinking that the instillation just exploded but Cortana said that they made it through. I'm assuming she would know the difference between making it through the portal and not because she is an advanced AI.

Yeah, they don't really touch on Cortana's specific solution.

Like I've previously said. Halo 4 will be "The Halo Chronicles: Marathon". I definitely think they are planning to redo Marathon within the Halo universe. Chief will wake to a rampant Cortana and the ship being boarded by an unknown force.

This is open to interpretation, I think. The exact dialogue is (serious spoilers ahead!):

She could mean that she believes that she and the MC made it through and the Arbiter didn't, or that Arbiter did and she and the MC didn't.

The more I think about it the more I think that you're probably right, as we can't see any remains of the Ark behind the ship, and you'd think she would say "one of us made it" if she knew that the Arbiter had made it through, but they hadn't. But it's not entirely clear.

I wish we'd seen another thirty seconds of ending prior to the credits rolling, with the ship tearing up! That would've made the scene commemorating the MC's death a little less WTF, and we could be a bit clearer on whether the MC and Cortana did actually make it through the portal.
 
OKay, so I've been noticing Halo 2's stats on B.net for the last few days and the amount of people playing that game has dropped considerably. Way more than I imagined it would. On average (since they put the Halo 2 ticker up on B.net) there was around 55k people online each evening and tonight there's only 12 online. Man, that's insane.

And it breaks my heart. I grew to love Halo 2 regardless of its faults. In fact, I'm probably going fire that bad boy up later tonight (with my Xbox 1 no less). Halo 3 is amazingly awesome but I love my Lockouts, Midships, Beaver Creeks, and Warlocks just the same.

Yeah, the lack of any remnants of either the Ark or Halo 004 is what makes me think they made it through. There is a lot of interpretation here and we simply wont know anything until the next game.

Pretty much what I expect them to do. Of course, plans can change over the course of the next few years.

Edit: Also, I've said this before but make sure you are all reading the artbook. It is done from the Forerunner's perspective and drops some very interesting hints about what happened 100,000 years ago.

It is on the DVD. Apparently it is more expansive too.
You'll be interested in something referred to as "Reintroduction" and at the end of the book they talk about a group called "The Precursors" who came before The Forerunners.

Ranked Free for All is the Lone Wolf playlist.

Your MVP wasnt in a ranked playlist = no achievement.

That is a stats page for team slayer; ranked free for all pretty much means lone wolf.

Christ so I have to play there? That's not cool. Why did they limit it to just that? I hate oddball and it pops up way too often. But that match I linked, shouldn't I've gotten the achievement there for MVP? I thought the description said 'ranked match'.

When she sent the message with the Flood who arrived at Voi, I'm pretty certain that High Charity was already well on its way to the Ark so that the Gravemind could end the weapon network's ability to fire permanently.

Knowing what the Ark's true purpose was (creating rings), Cortana suspected that 04's replacement might have enough power to destroy all life on the Ark, more specifically the remaining Flood (something I suspect she learned from 04 during her time there and perhaps the reason she kept the Index to begin with).

The Chief and the Arbiter arrived first because they came directly through the portal, whereas High Charity had a little trip on its hands.

Yeah the majority of achievements are in Lone Wolf mode.
 
so when i beat legendary co op my friend hit a button when it appeared to be slightly longer [new end scene] but i didnt get to make it out, i wasnt expecting it, looked like the teleport orb on earth that took everyone to the ark, but there was no ark
anyone clearify this for me

I'm not convinced that was the only purpose of the Ark, but the rest is plausable.

On a bit of a tangental note, that still leaves Flood in captivity on the remaining five (un-explored) Halo rings. And unless 100% of the Brute military was destroyed - or they surrendered - there's plenty of lose ends. So I can see why people are pining for a Halo 4. Which I hope doesn't happen.

Okay. But why on god's green earth didn't they just call FFA playlist 'Lone Wolf' in the achievement description. Before I read this I didn't know Lone Wolf was the only playlist you can do this in.

Read the artbook! I believe the
purpose of the ark was as a safe haven for select civilizations of the milky way so that they could be "reintroduced" after the array was fired. The artbook talks about "Reintroduction" and the dark times after the array fired.

Achievements are gained in Ranked playlists. That was Social Team Slayer, not Ranked.

I don't like how it has to be on Lone Wolves for most of those either. I usually play team games. But I do understand Bungie's way of thinking. People were annoyed by Gears of War teammates doing stupid things during ranked team games so they could earn achievements. This is a way of making it so people don't get a bunch of friends in a Social map and cheat their way through while making sure that people don't screw up the team by doing stupid things like grabbing Needlers for the achievement.
 
Anyone know if the music during the Tsavo Highway ending cutscene is a remixed version of Under Cover of Night? It's very brief, but it kinda sounds like it.

There's a lot to suggest that the Flood were created on the Ark too, considering that they are both extragalactic. On one of my playthroughs I plan on focusing on the verbiage in the terminals more acutely and seeing if I can tie up some more loose ends. I'm pretty certain they're all connected to the ARG beforehand and the Forerunner/monitor conversations that occurred during the first activation of the weapon network.

For me, the possibility of Halo 4 - or something to that effect, seems more likely after the legendary ending - which I won't elaborate on because I don't know if you've seen it firsthand. The normal/heroic ending, for me at least, ties up some things. Still not certain why the Chief is a bit of an asshole to her before going cryo, especially since most of the game he's 'sobbing the fucking blues' that she's not around. Well, as much as a cyborg super human can sob I suppose. :P

But it makes getting achievements like Overkill very hard.

To get it you basically need all of the other players in an enclosed area so you can drop in a few grenades, which isn't likely to happen.

So Hello? Bungie? Luke? Somebody? Is that 2nd skull in "Cortana" really just another "Blind" skull? I haven't been home to try getting it yet but that sounds retarded that a skull that is so hard to reach would just be a duplicate of one that you practically trip on in the 1st level.

Some interesting Points

Didact is D-Comm from the Array_Data.txt from server one in Iris.


Mendicant Bias is most likely AR due to how the character fits and that he's AI 05-032 like AR avatar MB_05_032.jpg. Could be that AR was original MB, and then New AR was Rampant MB for a bit before OB stepped in.

There's some other connections there too. Overall as an Iris fan that still had some questions, I'm very satisfied with terminals.
 
just wondering but why aren't there leader boards up at bungie.net? I am pretty sure Halo 2 had them, but it has been a while since I played Halo 2.
