thought you said you were disappointed in campaign or that you preferred halo 2? I was slightly disappointed at first as well, but after level 6, it is hands-down the best halo game yet. going back through a second time just confirms it.

BUT i still think the weapon fire from your own gun is too quiet. it gets drowned out by all other sound effects which i think is just plain bad sound design. this problem doesnt seem as bad by the last few levels for some reason though. still, i really wish you could hear your weapon from the center channel which would allow you to adjust the volume of it :(

otherwise best game ever.

Oh boy. That level as a beast on Heroic, solo.

It's crazy that I saw this pic and bypassed the Wraith all together and zeroed in on the Chieftain. :eeek

That's where I'm stuck right now (on legendary). Good lord that section is hard, I've been able to drop the first chieftan, and about 3/4 of the brute pack. I haven't even gotten to the wraith yet :(. The jetpack/carbine brutes basically flank me and finish me off everytime I seem to get close

BTW, I normally take it from the defensive position, sine it's got more ammom, but you are effectively cornered. Seriously awesome though.

I assume you disagree then, huh?

HL2 could be superior if the gunplay were anywhere near as enjoyable as that of Halo, but it's not. It's one of the best games ever made, but Halo 3 had a more exciting campaign for me.

Helly yeah! Of course I disagree. HL2 is a SP masterpiece, Halo 3 not so much but still great. The 3 major problems of Halo 3 are: length, repetition and again enough boring corridors to make them kinda annoying. I actually don't get your gunplay problems. I would prefer HL2 over almost anything any day. Only thing for me that has better gunplay are the id games and maybe CoD.

I said that while I was still in the middle of Chapter 3. In the end, however, I've come around and realize that Halo 3 is the best in the series and one of the best FPS ever made. The single player campaign is REALLY good. Now that I've played through everything, I've also gained appreciation for the initial levels as well. I even enjoyed Chapter 8 and 9.

I don't recall many "boring corridors" in Halo 3 and the game is anything but repetitive.

Unlike Halo 3, there were actually several areas in Half-Life 2 which I found dull. Basically, once I hit the "Sand Traps" area, I didn't really begin to enjoy the game again until the final city areas (right before the tower). I disliked the prison area and found most of the city running to be repetitive and claustrophobic. It's not bad, per se, it simply didn't grab me like the earlier bits. The problem is engaging in combat simply isn't as interesting or varied as Halo.

Man...that was a beast of an encounter on Heroic. If I remember correctly...there was only one jet pack brute on the left and maybe two chieftans and a few brutes down in front. I was cursing at that Wraith laying down supressing fire. Took me a while to clear that out.

Actually...i just remembered that I didn't fight all of them...I just ran from them and got a checkpoint when you run into the brute choppers in the next section. :lol

I vow to not puss out when I go through this section on Legendary....with 3 others on co-op.

Same boat here. Going back to the earlier levels on newer difficulties has been such a great experience, moreso than the first time, for sure.

Must be a matter of taste, as I'm with dark10x on this one. Gun-play with Halo for me is supremely superior to that of HL. I also don't think HL2's plot was really any great, and if we start nitpicking the pacing of it, we can also find a ton of problems (which I don't want to get into, as a lot of it is a matter of taste, and is off-topic). That said, HL2 Episode 1 is definitely better than HL2 in that regard.

YOu can also argue that the Halo plot isn't all that great....

You can argue about almost everything. In the long run I am pretty sure the consensus will be that HL2 SP > Halo 3 SP. :D

That is crazy. Almost 20 enemies.

I still don't understand level 8 hate. There were a couple of parts where it was a little confusing, but nothing too bad.

I guess I just enjoy variety and epic
rescue missions.

HL2 had amazing scenery, but it's gunplay was like going back to 2000. The encounter design isn't nearly as good either, and I'd much rather go through level 8 than sit through another boat/buggy section. Ugh. I think the best example of how flawed the fights are was the turret set up section near the end of the game, the design quickly crossed from fun to cheap there.

Also: the "Hey videogame puzzles, but now you have physics!"

It nailed the atmosphere and sense of place though, something that halo 3 doesn't do nearly as well in the first half.

As I've raved about before, I'm gaining a new appreciation for Crow's Nest on Legendary. The first barracks battle, the Chieftain at the end. Lots of good stuff in there.

I'm sure everyone else on earth found this the first time through, but I didn't realize you could climb up into the air ducts just after the big Brute pack battle in the hallway. I was toting around my newly acquired Gravity Hammer like a trophy, trying to maneuver close enough to the Brutes to use it, when I saw the ladders going up to the ducts from the second level. Up I go, and find they drop down in several places, usually right behind the Brutes.

Surprise.jpg

I'm in ur ducts, smashin ur brains. Or something like that.

This is one of the biggest changes from Halo 1 and Halo 2 - even in fights that are along indoors areas, there's multiple layers of elevation and ways to approach the enemy. This second trek through has me really appreciating the level design.
Stop stealing my posts Ghaleon! I also found that on my legendary run of that level.

While I don't care that much for its look compared to other levels of the game, Crow's Nest on legendary so far is amazing. The brutepack fight in the barracks is incredibly hard as I always got hammered (took me 35minutes), but then I found a very useful tactic. Grav lift to higher ground, wait in one of the siderooms for the brutes to come at you, shotgun to the face and then quick melee, usually downs them. I love these sort of charge tactics, very intense. I love trying to sneak up on brutes, seeing where they're going, then flanking them.
But then the area after that is even better. There are basically three levels. Ground level, then midlevel and then there are vent tubes that you can use to gain ground and sneek up on the brutes. I did just that and came into a room full of brutes. Shotgun to the face and melee, back out, flank from other side, etc. So intense.

On legendary you're pushed even more to make use of the environment and design and what they give you.

It will obviously vary from person to person.

Each game has something the other does not and preference hinges on what one finds most important. How about we simply agree that the two are of equally high quality but focus on different aspects.

I simply love the way Halo 3 present each combat scenario. They don't just spring a bunch of random enemies on you or send them in constant waves (well, OK, some of the Flood bits may seem like that, but they are the weakest portions of the game). Each scenario gives the player a fairly clear view of what you must accomplish in order to win that particular skirmish.

Of course, Half-Life 2 presents completely different scenarios that almost become puzzle like at times (not a bad thing).

In that section of crows nest, I found it easier to stick with the arbiter. His Dual PR would drop the shields, and I would take the headshot. It felt eerily like I was playing co-op with the arby, which I'm sure bungie was going for given his respawning system and the waypoint on his head.

I really don't see the complaints about friendly AI in this game, the marines aren't supposed to be crazy ass kickers, they are supposed to take the aggro, and maybe help give you another angle. Everytime a Jackal snipes one of them instead of me, I thank my lucky stars they are there. Having the marines take the front lets you do the fun part, out flank, and outwit. Occasionally they even do something really smart ie, my marines did a co-ordinated grenade attack to defeat a brute chieftan in the barracks of crows nest.

edit: think my lucky soles? goddman I'm dumb.

After a few days of mp I have decided that I like the following maps

Guardian
Snowbound
Highground
The Pit
Sandtrap
Narrows (this is probably a hated one but I love small maps without too many floors)

And dislike

Last Resort
Isolation
Construct

Haven't played Epitaph and Valhalla enough

How come I have seen no photos of cats with the limited edition spartan helmet set. I would hope that someone would hollow it out so that the cat head can be fit in.

I, personally am not crazy about putting in an enormous amount of effort in order to potentially suffocate/cause spinal harm to my beloved cat Smushy. I'm sure someone will be more than happy to brutalize their pet for Internet Larfs, though.

You dislike Last Resort? Other than Sandtrap, its easily my second favorite map so far. I was a fan of Zanzibar on Halo 2, but the new additions make it awesome.

The Pit isn't good for Team Snipers, though. It isn't bad for CTF.

Gah, I'm back. I got banned for a week for complaining about the Campaign spoilers in the OP of the joke Halo 3 thread, spoilers that were then removed. That whole thing was a barrel of laughs for me.

So I've been playing lots of Halo 3, regular edition since I fear the scratched disks. Sorry Bungie, I'd like to support you more, but I just can't take that risk.

Also that skull on Cortana is just a second Blind skull.
Man, I'm so tired of all these people getting banned, then they come back and are like, "Hi guys, I'm back."

It's like, "go away, trash!"

I just haven't had a fun match in it (maybe because of shotty snippers, dunno). When they're sniping involved, it's the map where I get shot from all sides.

Ok what the fuck. Why put in the AR as start when everyone goes for the BR anyways? They should of just taken out that stupid bullshit or make it your primary. No, lets put in the AR that no one uses but just happen to start out with it. I would love it if the AR was just in there and not the BR and Carbine. Fucking ruins Isolation and Snowbound.

Absolutely. When I first arrived to that part on Legendary I defeated the first group of Brutes with some minor problems, only to have a Phantom drop another round of Brutes on me. At this point I'm thinking "Shit! I can only take on so many Brutes here..". I finally defeat them after many, many deaths only to have a goddamn Wraith come flying from behind a rock. The Brutes controlling the Wraiths are very, very freakin' accurate. I just kept running, gunning, and praying for my survival. :lol

One of the many classic battles in Halo 3. I think this is my 4th time now going through Halo 3 and I'm nowhere close to being tired of it. It's just so damn good. The battles are always fun and exciting, the environments are drop dead gorgeous, and do I even need to mention the enemy A.I? :P

Even in the moments where I'm extremely pissed off, I'm having fun. I hate to come across so fanboyishly, but Halo 3 is everything I've always wanted to be in a video game. It's the complete experience, for me.

On the "Cortana" Level. Right before you save Cortana you are in a big circular room with platforms floating over an abyss. After saving her you hit a switch in the middle to lower some reactors you'll need to blow up. On the switch in the middle, jump on top of it and look across the way. Its sitting up and to the right in a pile of bones.
I think its a REAL skull too because I loaded the level up from the rally point and the skull wasn't there anymore. It only appears if you start from the begining.

A grenade will blast the bones away but the skull will stay still. I cannot figure out how to get up to it though. Get on it, GAF! Those of you on my friends list have been sent a screenshot.
I got up to it by standing on a purple Covenant weapon container and using a Brute Shot to blast my way up there. I picked it up, finished the level and... nothing. This was on Normal difficulty.

It is fun...pure and simple...anyone who does not like Halo 3 simply does not like videogames.

I got up there.
And I picked it up. Damn hard to get up there but a grenade jump is the best bet from those slanted pillars circling the room. And the best part is that it was all for nothing. Nothing happens. Nothing is unlocked or anything. Apparently it's just another blind skull. I found out about it a few days ago from halo3planet.com

Custom Games aside, I'm having the most fun with the Multi-Team playlist. (Big 4v4v4v4 are great in customs too, lots of targets and yet you still belong in a team)
Penny-Arcade summed it up best
The best times I've had with it are probably being slotted into the Multi Team hopper with Kiko. The games are two player teams, except there are four teams total, and this acts as a Carnival Multiplier. Oddball with more teams (or even as individuals) was always great, and that's well known, but a gametype like VIP becomes something incredible as the granularity increases. It never becomes a stalemate, because there are always three targets available. Plus, in these modes, there's no push to talk - you always have live voice, which gentlemen prefer.

I agree on Isolation. BR holding the hill from the side is almost unstoppable.

Multi-team is my favorite hopper, and likely the one where I will spend the most time once I finish my ranking up.

My god that 2 for 1 achievement was a chore, I spent 2 days trying to get the double kill with a laser shot. I have three more achievements to go before getting all 1000 points.

Overkill, triple kill with sword, and reboarding you're boarded vehicles. These last three are going to be really tough. I must of died 30 times trying to reboard my vehicle after I intentially let them board me.

Me too! I ran from that shit after clearing out most of the front line and all of the jetpacking Brutes. But when I saw the Wraith I was like, fuck this shit, I'm out of here! :lol

P.S. Good luck with that vow! :D I ran on Legendary, hats off to you if you stick around to clean up shop. I couldn't scratch together enough ammo to do it.

Wow, so (I haven't tried this), but if you hit record, you can move the camera and the saved film follows those moves? Because I love following someone around with like a Roadie Run style camera.
Although Tieno already answered your question, yup! Free cam, third-person, first-person, it's all good. Not to mention you can switch to other players as well. And if you really want to get into it: you can pause your movie, decide where to place your camera for the best possible angle and then press record to start taping your clip. If you're not satisfied with your result, you can "cancel" / discard the clip and the camera will be at the same position before you started recording. As I said in a previous post though, you can't pause when you're in the middle of the process but it's no deal breaker. It takes a little to use the free cam efficiently too (depending on how you want to use it), so you will probably retry dozens of times if you're a little obsessive about these kind of things. :p

Check my File Share if you want to see how to the camera can be used by the way. They're mostly experiments, so don't go expecting high quality stuff. :]

Laser Juggernaut was fun. I started it in Isolation without lasers and a much faster juggernaut, and when we moved across to Valhalla I figured we needed some way to bridge the distance. I didn't think you guys would mind everyone starting with a laser:D
I enjoyed both to be honest.

I disagree. It's simply a matter of waiting for the right weapons to respawn or crouch walking around. Patience is the key.

newbish question, but have to ask.... when I play multiplayer, I usually just get into a social slayer type of game. I have never once played the Sand trap map, or any maps that have warthogs inside them.

Co-op vehicle play is my favorite when it comes to multiplayer, so what gives? What games should I be seeking out to play with more vehicles other then the mongoose?

is amazing. Marty, I beg you, please include that score in the first soundtrack.
