Got to mission
6? After going through the portal and visiting the Cartographer, and took a break where you start your new mission with a spartan laser.

So I take back a little of what I said about the Arbiter being useless. He had lots of functionality as a barrier for me in
the Flood mission
. Either that level was just extremely easy (Legendary has been pretty much a cakewalk compared to the
fucking DEATH GAUNTLET of Brutes in the middle of the 2nd mission
) or they turned the Arbiter's health WAY up because
the Flood just queued up on him and I was easily able to swipe away with the sword or open up with flamethrower or Shotgun. I swear the poor bastard was on fire for half of the level. :lol
.

I have one question though, and those of you who've read Ghosts of Onyx and/or beaten the game will probably be able to answer. All I want to know is if
the bowl-shaped world you are on (after going through the portal created by the Ark) is the same world that Dr. Halsey and the other Spartans teleported to from the Shield World. Even better if Halo 3 has a reunion with the remaining Spartans (or if the whole "Master Chief is the last Spartan" is the true canon and the books aren't recognized?)
.

No. Guilty Spark even mentions the shield instillation but mentions that this is something else. You are on the Ark now. The portal and device you used to get there are the exact same from Onyx but on a larger scale.

They have never been there IIRC. Also, MC is truly the last spartan. Sorry.

That's pretty hard. Can you retry a jump if you think your body touched it?

Edit: ok, I'll try that.

I've tried opening those ports I've seen on other sites, but it sits at Moderate for some reason.
Have the same problem. I just disabled my firewall right now, to see if that will help though.

This thread must be kept alive. I have nat problems too. =/ Must be because I'm sharing the internet through my Macbook via wifi. :lol

I give up. Its almost impossible to get my last 2 achievement points. 990 forever :(.

Triple Kill with sword and 4 kills in 4 seconds is painfully hard to do when you can only do it in one gametype which I'm at level 27 for.

I personally can't see myself completing the campaign on Legendary, not when I know what's in store for me in that 8th level.

You know for all the crap people talk about for this level, me and a buddy of mine were preparing for something really really bad. I warned him even. After we got done, we wondered what everyone was bitching about. Had no problems whatsoever with this level and thought it was a pretty easy cake walk on Heroic.

So what's everyone's favorite single player level? Mine would have to be level 7.
I loved everything about that one - the Silent Cartographer flashbacks in the beginning, the crazy battles I had in the barrier towers where I was scrambling to find ammo, the Hornets (OMFG), the dual Scarab battle, the lighting.....holy shit it was just awesome on top of awesome.

That just might be the best level I've ever played in a FPS.

How on earth did someone work out how to get the IWHBYD Skull?! It just seems like someone you would never try unless you had some sort of idea of where to start..

ZOMG, I used your advice and it worked! :D More than 2 hours of perseverence and now I have my last skull! Thanks man!
The effect after you've succesfully cleared them is pretty neat.

It's my least favorite, but the best part about that level for me
was the final run back to the start of the level. Just ran through it without shooting anything, a real rush and lots of adrenaline. And then at the end you see the Arbiter atop with his flamethrower being a bad ass.

Bungie gave some hints (level) and people also hacked hex files and saw hints/comments from Bungie programmers in the code, I think.

So, you all have been useless when it comes to helping me so far in this thread, but I was wondering if anyone had some advice for my dilemma:
When I scratched off the stuff to reveal the 25-digit code for my new XBL Gold card, part of the code came off, too.
Help?

Why don't you return it? Why don't you call Microsoft?

Yeah, they hacked the Hex Files of the game, and some files were named "ring_skull" or something like that.

Can't return it now. Is there a different number I should call, or should I call the MY-XBOX number?

Isn't there a serial number?

that should help if you want to contact MS.

On the 6th (or is it 7th) mission,
Silent Cartographer 2
. I'll spare the virtues since those have been brought up a bazillion times, cons though :D :

-Uh, anyway to get full widescreen in co-op? It's kind of annoying having to hunch forward and squint to spot out snipers.

-Seriously, what's with the graphics? Some of the most inconsistent I've seen in a high-profile FPS. Great lighting and effects coupled with disgustingly low-poly character models and apparent draw-in. They really should've put AF on this sucker, would've looked much nicer. I don't quite buy the LARGE ENVIRONMENTS argument, it's no Operation Flashpoint. It almost seems like Bungie just didn't care to really polish it up all the way. Considering the time and resources they had, I expected better.

-I find the close quarters multiplayer very antiquated, especially in comparison to the likes of Team Fortress 2. It feels more of a contest of who can shoot wildly and melee the other guy or who can get behind who first. Even when I jack the sensitivity up it still feels unresponsive and slow. I trust the large vehicle maps are better.

-The
FEAR-like Cortana messages
are lame as hell

No one fucking likes The Flood, stop putting in them the game Bungie

I've only played matchmaking, but so far I haven't come across the following maps: Guardian, Epitaph and The Pit.
All of those are available in Team Slayer/Lone Wolf.

I never played Sandtrap in matchmaking, though.

Well you would think that for all the complaining about the backtracking in that level, getting out was just so easy, fun, and adrenaline pumping like you said. It was barly anything to complain about. To each their own though I suppose. I def agree with your comment:)

Sandtrap comes up in Big Team Battle, have gotten it a few times. Which reminds me, I need to put a clip up on my file share where I managed to get my Elephant on top of the other teams in Big Team Slayer, and the resulting madness in the middle :lol

We also had a TON of fun las night when we get Team Rockets in Social Doubles on the Narrows. The other two guys weren't very good, and we discovered the magic of just using the mancannon back and forth repeatedly to do "drive bys" when they were on the bridge. There was also a good moment where my friend did a mancannon to mancannon battle and managed take the guy out with a well shot rocket before they met. Then we accidentally met in midair and I took us both out since we were going to die anyway :lol . And possibly my favorite Halo moment so far: one of their team was standing behind their mancannon, I guess waiting for my friend to come across. I shot him clean in the back, which launched his body straight into the lift, and when his body and rocket launcher shot out (his body in a hilarious fashion) it almost took out my friend who was in the middle of coming across. Amazing times, thank you fileshare :D

Man I gave up on finding those skulls by myself, hello guide! It's weird, I'm a complete explore-whore, but apparently not in a game like Halo where I like to do other stuff, i.e shooting some Covenant hiney.

You'd have to be pretty much nuts to try and figure out the IWHBYD skull by yourself.

I frigging hate all the flood missions in the halo series.

I was actually surprised by them, since I never got that far in H2 (I KNOW). Like all of a sudden the game turned into something totally different and insane. But I liked it.

The shotgun helps.

:D

Suicidal Grunt with a grenade in each hand rushing me with the IWHBYD Skull activated: "I betcha *I* can stick it!" :lol

...and he did. Sonofabitch.

Level 7 spoilers (i think):

I loved it when the flood decided to help me all of a sudden, so much power.

...or they turned the Arbiter's health WAY up...
Honestly, the Arbiter on Legendary is a beast. I think one of the most frustrating elements of Halo 3's campaign is the inconsistency of the friendly AI. They do the strangest things, almost as though they are idiot savants. In some missions, they are completely worthless on foot and when driving a vehicle, they're either deathtraps or car wrecks, hardly doing anything right. But when you have them shotgun on a Goose or load up a Prowler with them and all of a sudden they're brilliant heroes capable of eviscerating Scarabs and leveling armies.

Having played through the entire campaign solo on Legendary, I found myself running a lot from encounters when my ammo went dry or simply relying on the skill of my allies. The Arbiter in
'Halo'
is a violent beast. If you direct him appropriately, he'll plow through the
Flood
like he's on vacation. With patience, Legendary is actually not as difficult as I thought it would be on
'Cortana' and 'Halo'
. I had more difficulty on
'Crow's Nest' and 'Tsavo Highway'
incidentally.

I have to say that Halo 3 really has become my favorite in the series. Not a single bad level in there. Even Chapter 8 was awesome (for me). It was neither too long nor filled with repetitive segments. Mission 7 was truly incredible, though. Everything that is good about Halo was in there.

it's all because someone had the BRIGHT idea of making lone wolves a 5 player playlist

WTF guys, make it 8 or more. 5 is just nuts, especially when you're trying to complete the game. you would require a incredible amount of luck to have everyone in the same place at the same time, and even then that's not a guarantee you'll even be able to pull it off

i dont get some of you achievement whores. the way i see it, i plan on playing this game for another 2 to 3 years and throughout that time i'm bound to get all of these achievement somehow. even if by accident, i'll get em. what the hells the rush to get achievements?

It seems that the Hayabusha perm brings good luck. First match I try it out, slayer on snowbound (Lone Wolves) and at the end of the match I pickup a spartan laser in the base , pre-charge it while walking outside and just as I'm in the open I see two dudes fighting each other and pray that they stick close together so I could get that Two For One Achievement.

This can't be said enough, the pacing and variety was very good. It goes from small encounters to epic badassery so easily.
I'm glad you ended up really enjoying it in the end.

I've never minded the backtracking in Halo. Actually one of my favorite levels in Halo CE is that night time version of the snow level (can't think of the name). It felt so desolate and spooky.

Regarding Friendly AI, I try to give my AI power weapons like sniper rifles or Fuel Rods. They're very deadly with them. On Tsavo Highway I had my sidepartner in the warthog equiped with a fuel rod and he dealt some serious damage.

Helm's Deep- (Gametype+Map)

A (hopefully) interesting take on the climatic battle from Tolkien's The Two Towers. Players take on the role of the marauding Uruk Hai and defenders of Rohan in a gametype designed for use with the High Ground variant also named "Helm's Deep."

General Rules (Player Traits):
-Players have 300% shields, but they don't recharge.
-Movement is reduced to 90% and gravity increased to 150% to help compensate for the ease of access in the broken down right wall. (Crates are also placed in it to help stem the flow)
-No grenades in Middle Earth. (I couldn't allow them because they let players move the crates blocking off the "illegal" entrances. :P The defenders do, however, have inciendiary grenades at their disposal)
-Starting weapon is the sword. Infinite ammo.
-1 Bomb Assault

General notes (Level Design):
-Right wall is filled in with crates to prevent easy access. Same for the bunker entrance. The bunker hatch has had a grav lift placed below it, sealing the hatch shut and preventing further entrance into the bunker. The focus here is on the conflict at the wall and these changes were implemented for such ends.
-Bomb arming zone is just inside the wall. Once again, this also reflects the emphasis on the battle at the wall. (It also compensates for the extra help the defenders get in the sealing of several of the entrances) Defenders are to stop the attackers entrance at all costs.

Defenders of Rohan loadout:
-Four snipers are placed on the wall for your "Elven Archers." Two gravity hammers are also provided for help with warding off ascending attackers.
-Several inciendiary grenades are also provided for use at the base of the wall.
-Trip mines are the only equipment given. Like the inciendiary grenades, these can be used as further deterrants to the enemy's ground movement.
-Lastly, 3 mongooses are provided in case you wish to make a heroic last stand charge out of your base on your "mighty steeds."

Uruk-Hai loadout:
-Bomb carrier cannot hurt anyone.
-Three grav lifts are provided. These are your siege ladders.
-That's all you have provided beyond your default swords. You do have the advantage of an easy to get to (once inside the wall of course) bombing spot as well as the (recommended) advantage of numbers. (The GT is intended for 10 to 6 players, defending/attacking respectively, as indicated by the map title.)

Give me your feedback if you try it out. I'd appreciate any thoughts, negative or positive.

Edit: Just revised the GT to make detonations go faster, rounds go quicker, and max score to win higher. I also revised the map to give the Uruks deployable shields so that they had more to do than simply rush the wall in an attempt to get through in addition to strengthening the bunker defenses. It is now completely impenetrable without explosives or the grav hammer.

Finally finished my Helm's Deep variant, (I created both a specific map and gametype for it) as posted in GDJustin's excellent thread. Let me know what you guys think if you actually try it out. Seeing as I haven't managed to get 16 people to together to play it; I don't really know if it works or not.

I didn't like level 8 and the way the "floodgates" level re-used a previous area but the flood were a lot more fun to fight in general because of the different forms and using stuff like deployable cover to keep them from rushing you. I agree about level 7. Probably my favorite across the three games. I liked the
the last part of fighting through the flood up to the control room in the snow. I've heard on podcasts people mentioned they hated it because there were no checkpoints but I went up along the right and had checkpoints occur regularly enough.

Overall a great single player campaign, minor backtracking and "shouldn't Gordon Freeman be jumping across platforms here?" xen-ish level not withstanding.

I really hate being on the red team in multiplayer, in fact, I feel slightly disadvantaged just by being red. I'm playing constantly thinking "don't shoot red, don't shoot red". Then, when a blue player pops into view, I hesitate slightly because of the red writing above his head, briefly thinking that this refers to my team, then I die.

I seem to get a much easier game on the blue team, but this is just a problem with me and my slow brain. I wish the names just appeared the same color as the team.

Apart from that, flawless gameplay in abundance.

Haha... same... that text should not be red, should be blue or whatever team you're not on. I've had that happen too many times, just not used to it.

That's the thing, there WERE checkpoints if you held back and killed them as they came in, but the game doesn't make that clear. I died like 40 times because I thought you were supposed to run for it instead of actually killing the ones that fell in from the sky. But once you start killing them you get several checkpoints all the way through.

I thought Bungie broke the game at first. :lol

Yeah, my first thought was : I'll just do like the Library and jump my way through it.

Didn't work. Sad panda.

I'm still not liking the grenade system.

I thought the grenades were supposed to balance dual-wielding. When I start out with an AR + 2 grenades, I feel like the person dual-wiedling definitely has the advantage. I wish the grenades were either stronger or they let you have more of them.

Fighting the brute packs completely changes the game and is so much more fun than fighting elites in halo or halo 2. But this is what makes the flood stages so painful. I realize the flood have better tactics than the first two games, but compared to the brutes it feels like fucking doom fighting the flood. Fighting the brutes on higher difficulties is like a tactical puzzle, so much fun to try and figure it out. Fighting the flood on higher levels is just an exercise in frustration and brutality. Not really that many tactics which can be used. Be overwhelmed, grab a weapon, unload it. Find a new weapon. Rinse, repeat.

Having said this, overall Halo 3 is definitely my favorite of the three holla games. Fighting the brute packs eclipses FEAR as my favorite game now to play to fight smart enemy AI.

QFT. I'm playing through on Legendary all by my lonesome and like you said, fighting big packs of 'em is like attempting to solve a puzzle. A really savage puzzle. Hell, the tail-end of Mission 1 took me hours to get through but it was never frustrating or cheap.

Really? Just looking at my kill distribution on my stats page, the starting weapons (assault rifle, assault melee, and frag grenades) account for probably 9/10 of my kills. :lol I understand that they will likely account for most, but I almost feel that, in their effort to give spawning players a fighting chance, Bungie has removed too much of the incentive to pursue other weapons.
