What the fuck. I demand answers!

Anybody remember the 'leaked' Halo 3 script from nearly 2 years ago? It was classic fan fiction with the Flood/Halo being part of a Forerunner scheme and the ancient race returning to claim back Earth as theirs (a new enemy you fought towards the end of the game), but in retrospect, I think I prefer it to the story in the real game. :lol

why is there massive borders if you try to play split screen?
its in 4:3 and not widescreen? you'd think the power of the 360 could cope with doing it widescreen. how lame. awesome game anyway

Wow.

It IS widescreen genius. It retains the aspect ratio 16:9. If it didnt border it the aspect ratio would be 16:4.5 each which wouldnt work.

forerunners revealed omg
After the two pelicans get shot down at Sierra 117, past that section and when you first meet those snipers. You can find these creepy beings on the left cliffside.

Level 7 is fantastic too. Anyone know where I can find a recap of the story till level 7? I want to see if I missed some stuff.

stfu it runs with borders. get a widescreen tv and see for yourself.

I'd heard it had borders to maintain its Widescreen 16:9 ratio. Widescreen doesn't mean "As Wide As The Screen You're Watching It On", it means 16:9.

What BenjaminBirdie and voltron said. It runs with the borders to retain the proper aspect ratio of the game. If it didn't you'd see a panoramic shot with a different POV.

I found a gold skull but nothing happened. So I figured you had to carry it to the end of the level. I did that and still nothing happened. Am I meant to do anything else with this thing to get the achievement or is something broken?

The second you picked it up it should have said "achievement unlocked" and at that point you could quit the level and it should show up in your meta-game campaign options.

I just noticed the huge borders, Gears did this better IMO.

I think Gears could show more of the sides without altering the gameplay since it is third-person anyways and you could always see more around you. If Halo 3 did this, you would be able to see more to your sides, giving you an advantage.

Now that I think about it, I think someone else on here mentioned a skull that didn't show an achievement. Someone suggested that it triggered something else.

Hmm.. Well yeah there's a skull in the campaign options. Called Blind? I guess it's silver. I assumed it was gold because the skull itself was yellow...

Right, i forgot Gears is third person.

Live is where it's at anyway.

I really don't understand how people can think this game is short.

I'm on level 8 and I've played around 8 hours. It's a good length for this type of game.

I have a medal called 'Steaktacular' the description is: Luke owes you a steak dinner.

Anyone care to explain? Also I have seen some names in Multiplayer that have a logo in on the right side near their numbers...what is this? Thanks.

A question about skulls -- how do you get them? I found one on the first level but didn't know what to do. Moreover; what do they do?

Did you even try to look for answers before asking? Google google google! Or just scroll up a bit and follow the links or read the OP or.......

Finished it on Heroic. Awesome stuff. Reminded me very much of playing through the first Halo.

I do have some story questions though...don't read unless you have finished it.

What the hell happened during the last three levels?! From what I understand, Chief has been basically trying to prevent the halo rings from being 'activated' for the past two and a half games, including the part in the ark control room at the end of level 7. then all of the sudden he goes to rescue cortana, and decides to fly up to the newly contructed halo and activate it? Did I miss something? Or did he know that activating a partially built halo would simple blow it up? And, was that done to kill gravemind? Can someone explain the story for fools like me?

I love the halo universe but wtf?! Help!

Playing on co-op causes players to rush to keep up. Playing 4p co-op even more so.

Pick up skulls by holding Whatever your weapon pickup button is (B button for the hardcore :D ). These skulls can then be activated in the campaign Lobby by pressing X. Each has a new effect.

There are like a billion posts in this thread, cut the guy some slack, dude.

I uploaded a few screens to bungie.net via THEATER last night, and they aren't showing up this morning, although the matches they were from are showing up. Is this a server issue where they should show up eventually, or are they just gone?

I'm pretty sure he knew that: if he detonated that sole ring, it would only affect the biological lifeforms within its local range. The Ark is outside of Milky Way Galaxy, remember? With the detonation of the incomplete Halo, nothing crucial, other than the Flood, would be affected.

This thread is 482 pages long, so no, I didn't bother.

I don't care I'll perfect it. 10/10. Any game where your teammates driving AI is my only flaw is a good thing. I beat campaign a while ago, but after getting a feel for the multiplayer, the new maps, and the new ranking system this game is outstanding.

I was just checking out my Bnet stats and I noticed that where it lists how many times you've been killed by different weapons one of my deaths is listed under "Classified," with a description of "Iiiiiieeeeeee!!!" Anyone know what that is? It's separate from being killed by The Guardians, btw.

What was the point of the shield worlds since it seems theres more then one aside from the fact that the storyline from the novels isnt finished yet.

So why was there a gravemind on the delta halo if all of the flood was supposed to be wiped out and the 100,000 year war level just makes things even more convoluted.

That backmasked message in the mausoleum, we still only speculate on who that was oh and it seems that we haven't even managed to get a proper transcript of it yet.

Boren’s Syndrome which gave Sargent Johnson some immunity from the flood, which was retconed out at a later point in time, does it really have matter in any way or is it just mentioned randomly to mess with the fans?

With the future of the halo franchise in uncertainty it seems that everyone is looking back to the past namely to the even in "Contact Harvest" and halo wars which are approximately in the same time period.

Oh yeah and by the time they find the chief Cortana should be insane/corrupted broken down and way past the 7 year AI life expectancy unless theres more to Rampancy then just a random mention of it in the level name and Cortana reciting bits of her own letters

Congratulations Bungie, the fight is over and done with and yet still no clue as to what the hell happened.

The terrible thing about war is that you don't get the whole picture, you don't get answers wrapped up in a neat little bow. Bungie did an OUTSTANDING job of making the entire campaign feel like a small little corner of a very large conflict.

Okay, so I'm on the latter part of the 1st chapter--dunno how close I am to the end of it--but I just met the huge mofo with the Gravity Axe. I've figured out to take out his helmet as the best way to take him down but even when I get past him, I still run into a shitload of enemies without reaching a checkpoint.

What I usually do is bait enemies down to that service tunnel--the one where the sides are open and you can still get sniped if you aren't careful and you actually travel underneath Gravity Axe Guy. Barring that, I've tried climbing up top to the room w/ all the windows to snipe but keep getting sniped myself.

Any suggestions? And where the hell is the next checkpoint? I did make it across once or twice and actually took out Gravity Axe Guy and his equally powerful minions (there's about 3 of 'em hanging out above that service tunnel) and still hadn't hit one....

I finished the fight last night on a 4 player coop..with Robut, QVT and Beseda. Before that some other people :).

It was fucking epic, total win all over the fucking game ( except the 8th lvl which kinda sucked ).

I loved every part of it!!!

<3 Bungie <3

Mission 7 is most memorable IMO. I can remember every individual setpiece.

But IMO Mission 8 reminds me of Xen in half life.

As in, great great great great wow great great....wtf ugh!?!?!

At least Halo 3 has an amazing end level.

remember, 343 Guilty Spark tells you that the effects of the ring would be confined to the local area. And you're so far away from the Milky Way anyway.

It's on the same page (see Kuroyume), or simple words like Halo 3 skulls in google, or look at the first post of the thread where a lot of info is kept. One of the reason it's 482 pages long is people asking the same questions over and over and over.

Two friends and I pulled an all nighter to play through the game Tuesday morning ( as did alot of us I'm sure ) and I have to say that the last bit before the final cut scenes was the overall most fun. Not the gameplay mind you, just the sheer hilarity of us doing... well, you know. haha

I did put it in google but mainly got FAQs and stuff for where to find them, no Q&A about what they were. Yes, I missed the facts that there were stuff about it just a bunch of posts above mine. I didn't see any of the info in the first post though?

One of the reason people are asking the same questions over and over again is because the thread is too fucking long.

Or so they think. I don't think the flood is done for, mostly because the other installations are still up and running. It just takes another species to land on it and get infected by the flood to create a Gravemind.

So it's not really over with the Flood, I think

Oh, and Stinkles, if you can answer that :
Why did the Forerunners decided to create Halos with Terraforming? In my understanding, they were trying to recreate something with the Flood, and that the "weapon" that Halo is, it's really just an emergency panic button you press if the experiment goes wrong. Is this it?

You need to upload something to your file share before pictures start getting uploaded.

Ah, right on. So, basically, lucky for you and unlucky for the flood, gravemind just so happened to follow you to the ark and put himself and the flood in that position. And also lucky for you, the ark was outside of our galaxy...I think I get it now.

I want this shirt so bad.

Its awesome, I can wear it in public without anyone knowing what it is, and nerds would think Im awesome.

Actually it makes sense. The Prophet Truth was at the ark because the ark had a control mechanism for setting off all of the other Halo rings (outside of the new one being built at the ark) Setting off the rings would obviously kill all the covenent (who thought it was a gateway to heaven), Humans, Elites and Flood. So, the flood came to earth for the same reason you were fighting.. to stop Truth from getting to the ark.. of course you couldnt leave flood alive on earth.. so they had to be stopped prior to getting into the ark.

and then they brought High Charity (complete with Gravemind) to the ark to once again stop Truth from setting off the rings in the galaxy. Up until the point that truth was stopped they were essentially on the same side of the equation as MC/Arbiter.. stop the covenent. Once the covenent were dead then it became MC vs Flood.
