Maaaaaaan, I can't wait to get in on this. I'm planning on getting a 360 and Halo 3 this weekend, but I really dont wanna pay for that overpriced network adapter.

Would it be just as effective for me to just get an ethernet cable?

It's even more effective in terms of connection speed. The problem is that not everyone's 360 is next to there router.

was anybody else having issues downloading the xbox live update last night? i was connected to live, went to download, and got an error message saying the update couldn't be completed and check network settings.

could this just be a server overload issue? i can't play multiplayer :-(

The 360 comes with a 10 ft ethernet cable btw. Ethernet > G wireless.

Well, yeah. The only hassle is the cable itself.

Yeah that's what I've been hearing, but I might need a longer cable

Thats the thing, I might need at least 20 feet. I don't think it would be a huge problem, just hook it up and throw it in a closet when I'm done.

Lovely pics everybody. :) Really great to see how intuitive and easy Bungie has made it to go through saved films and clips.

If you guys want to play something that's even more difficult than legendary, turn on the Mythic and Tough Luck skulls. Holy moly.

Ethernet cables are pretty inexpensive, and if you don't have a problem with the cord then definitely ethernet is the way to go. You could find a cord that long at almost any computer store or a place like radioshack.

I got the game yesterday and I have some quick impressions, spoiler-free no less. I'm a Halo 1 nut so bear in mind, that's how I'm judging the game.

Since selling my Xbox years ago, I got my Halo 1 fix through the PC port. I've grown unaccustomed to playing Halo with a joypad so with Halo 3, it's like starting over. My problem is mostly mistaking buttons, particularly melee and weapon reload but I'm getting better at it.

Some of you may remember my Half Life 2 topic, played on Xbox (360). I was generally not too crazy about the game, but one thing I do miss is the run button while playing Halo 3. Everything else is better left in the Valve series. :D

Graphically, I have no problem with the game. The cut-scenes are very well made, with the hardware behind them and most specifically, special care and time to do them right, something missing in Halo 1 and particularly 2. I play the game on my LCD monitor at 720p and it is bright and colorful. I really like many of the finer details, like, for example, the snow on Valhalla. I can see some of the aliasing some people complain about, but it seems restricted to some structures against a constrasting backdrop. No biggie for me and certainly nothing as distracting as, say, Ridge Racer 5 on PS2. I do agree faces on characters is messed up; the admiral and Miranda look sick.

The weapons thus far are much better than Halo 2. Because I don't like dual-weilding, I find many of the weapons catering to that option useless so I mostly ignore them. But unlike Halo 2, the weapons you are left with are more than competent. Brute hammer is cool and I haven't even started to stop vehicules and grenades with it. I mostly stick with the Brute Shot, Assault Rifle and Convenant Carbine otherwise.

I do have an issue with the amount of ammo available in Campaign levels. I can understand restricting it to make the player try all weapons on their first playthrough, but in the long-term, this could prove annoying.

I like the support weapons and how you play changes, but the flame-thrower seems useless to me. The rest of these weapons work well.

I wasn't part of the Beta testing of Halo 3 so the first thing I did when I got the game yesterday was to play Forge and go through every single MP map. It was a way to ease me into the joypad controls (without the pressure of AI enemies), see what I missed last spring (and more) and try various weapons and vehicules.

I only got through two campaign levels thus far so no vehicule action for me yet. I wasn't particularly impressed with level 2, but level 1 was cool in many ways. The lush jungle is beautiful, I can see many hidden paths and ways to tackle this level and the way the music was handled in that level ruled. But neither level are really big so the sense of scale Halo 3 is supposed to be about, I haven't seen it yet!

The drones still suck.

I do hope I won't have AI friends with me throughout the entire game. Taking care of your combat buddies was cool in Halo 1, but going all out and alone was fun too.

I have no real issue with the AI though. Not sure if I can call it smarter, but it doesn't seem dumber.

I do still miss fighting the Elites. And the Brutes, while improved in terms of gameplay from Halo 2 (I still prefer how they generally look in the previous game though), doesn't offer quite the same match fun-wise. And they appear easier to tackle than Elites. Maybe it's because I'm only playing on Heroic, but on Legendary Halo 1, facing 3 or more Elites was daunting, particularly with no vehicules or super weapons.

I do have another issue with voice acting in the game and the changes with voice actors that were made. I don't know how it pans out later, but when you first see Truth, the scene is almost comical. The actor can't match the one in Halo 2, the dialogue's silly and one of the few cut-scenes which doesn't work. I noticed the Arbiter was voiced by someone else, I didn't have a problem with it until he starts chatting with the drones, a another unintended comedic moment. And Miranda, well, she was never a strong-sounding character in Halo 2, but I don't why they changed her if the voice actress is similarly underwhelming. Was Bungie working on a tight budget, as far as that department is concerned?

Yeah, I could get a 50 ft cable for like 10 bucks, its awesome. Anyways, thanks to everyone for the help.

I cannot figure out how to start an online campaign! I must be stupid! I go into a lobby by myself but can't seem to be able to search for others - do I need to finish the game first?

No match making for Co-op. Have to use friends or recent player list.

Besada, I noticed you had some screenshots in your Bungie.net screenshot section, how'd you get those there? I've taken a lot but none of them ever want to show up in there.

Ghaleon really needs to put my Handy Dandy Tutorial in the OP if he hasn't already. I'll go track it down. Don't go anywhere.

REPOSTED AGAIN BECAUSE, STILL, I LOVE:

CAN'T FIND YOUR SCREENSHOTS?

Neither could I! But just look now!

http://www.bungie.net/stats/halo3/default.aspx?player=KidInsomnia

I don't know if this is the right way or if I'm just using a work around BUT...

1) Take your screenshot
2) UPLOAD it manually to your File Share
3) On Bungie.net go to your File Share
4) Click on the Screenie to bring up the Pop Up of it
5) Click on SAVE TO MY GALLERY

IT IS NOW IN YOUR HI-RES SCREENSHOT, AND SERVICE RECORD GALLERY.

It can now be used as your Money Shot on your profile page, JUST LIKE MINE!

:D

A couple of funny things I noticed in my game:

Funniest line:
"There's trouble right here in River City"

I also noticed a "blue screen of death in one of the terminals in the
barracks building

Last night was a lag fest with co-op. It wasn't unplayable, but it was just enough to piss you off. I hope it had something to do with the Live issues last night and its not my connection.

I played 4 player Co-op last night and it was lag free for the most part...

It's strange. I upload screenshots in my File Share and they show almost immediatly on b.net. I upload screenshots the normal way (you take a shot and it send the screen automatically) and it takes forever before they show on b.net. :(

Yeah, I hope they fix the problem soon...(if there is a problem)

I totally agree. I used it last night. Thanks. Somehow you have to manually upload it to fileshare. Game gave me impression that it is done automatically when you save screenshot.

Bah! Don't tell me that. I'm running a 6 meg line. Maybe it was the other player's line. Its just confusing because on Monday the first level ran really well with the same three people. Last night on levels 3 & 4, not so good.

Once I finish the fight, i can't wait to try co-op, some of those scenese are freaking made for two players.

I want to try dropping shock troops onto the scarab from the hornet during the dual scarab fight especially

instigator, I thought the second level was one of the weaker IMO. Pretty much every level after that has at least something awesome except for maybe the eigth level. Though I'm finding if I tackle that level with different weapons than I was using it's more fun.

Direct wired ethernet is far superior to any wireless connections, both in connection speed and reliability.

Amazing shots jet1911.

And Max_PL: you're overreacting. Gears of War is hardly terrible, especially the gameplay. The netcode however was pretty disappointing.

Funny, I can play GOW co-op all night long with no problem, but in Halo 3 I can't play more than 5 minutes. Hopefully it works itself out.

That is strange. Manual upload shows up instantly. I did one last night, still not showing up. I uploaded other one manually, it came up instantly on bungie.net.

Unlike some other people, I have no real problem with indoor levels in Halo, even those with repeating rooms. But that Halo 3 level seemed sloppy to me, with some backtracking (WTH?) and generally dull looking.

I believe the eighth level in Halo 3 is High Charity, right? I did like the level bearing the same name in Halo 2, though I hear Halo 3 somehow messes it up. I'll see when I play the rest of the game later today (I didn't take a day off).

How about we spoil tag some of that.

Sheesh.......

Yo, this game is the bomb.

I past the 1st level, on legendary. It was awesome!

My god, at those brutes spamming their gun like mad. Holy shit. Then there is the regenerator which is all kinds of awesome. Fucking wicked. They wouldn't stop shooting those bombs from their gun at you, they are called brute shots right? :lol :lol :lol

Now, ahem, this is what you call a game.

See you guys online guys. The outside scenery is very nice, I loved it.

But what's up with those vending machines? Thye like give you guns from it.

And again, I like the music too. Love it.

Edit: I would like to say, when you get the sniper rifle, it's a nice touch that Bungie did. The screen on the sniper rifle when you zoom out, it shows the things in front of you on the green screen. You get what I mean?

That's great details right there.

Short impressions:

Story-wise: Uhh, What? Ok.
Gameplay-wise: Holy shit this is awesome!.....and fucking hard >.<
Disk problems: Nothing a spit buff couldn't fix.(for me anyway)
Multiplayer: Jesus I suck.

Gameplay expanded: Playing on heroic, and I feel like I'm playing legendary in the previous games. Probably just because the weapon placements seem alot more controlled. I can't tell you the number of times they put up against snipers with just short range weapons, or tanks with just rifles. Good challenge, but frustrating at times.

Edit: The environments seemed fine to me. Varied and different, compared to one and two. Tis minimal copy & paste.

I think the game looks awesome considering the scale. The jaggies reeeeeeeeeally stand out on a large 720p tv, though

Weird, because I have a 46" 720p Samsung DLP and haven't notice much in the way of jaggies. Not saying they aren't there, just saying they aren't noticeable on my large 720p TV.

Only thing I hate about this game, the black bars. Bungie? Why? Answer me. I bought a 360 with Halo 3, I deserve an answer.

I'm very pissed about that situation.

Played the first two levels on heroic. Took me 2 hours and then some. Liking it so far.
First level started out slow, but then they keep on introducing bigger and more difficult open areas as you go through it which are a lot of fun. The second level looks a bit plain, although there were some very cool battles in that. Especially liked the
area they first showed in the brute vi-doc, that's full of brutes and a brute chief with a hammer. Added with the gravilty lift and some deloyable cover it's very cool to fight. Died a lot

I still miss the elites.
Sometimes the gun sounds are a bit muted, not as sharp sounding as the beta. Weird.
No framerate issues, no aliasing. Very smooth. I remember the area blim took a screen from to show the aliasing and it was much better on my HDTV (connected via VGA)

Hello, I finished the game and i'm quite happy. But i just wanted to know what are the terminals? thanks

Terminals are things you can find throughout the game that give you some backstory. I've only found two so far, when getting on the elevator to the top of the tower (to turn off the power shields) keep going and jump to the far platform you will find one in each tower.
