So Halo 3's campaign on Heroic is the most satisfying gaming experience I've ever had.
Let's start with the bitching though. This is 100% campaign, nothing else. Fuck, the idea that this game still has any multiplayer component to it blows my mind, let alone such a fucking awesome one.

The vehicles still suck for single player. Well, kinda sorta. They suck in that anything outside the overpowered copter and tank are unusable, but actually fighting them is pretty damn fun even if you have to do it on foot. In fact, having to come up with a way to clear Tsavo highway and the landing zone on my own are some of my favorite moments in the game. There are amazing things you can do with a sniper rifle, a ghost, and some poor grunt's plasma pistol. They actually made the Scorpion fun to use too, so that's comendable.
The story was pretty tame compared to the previous two games. It was more of a send off of the other two than a game to complete a trilogy. Which is fine really, that alone makes it enjoyable. The whole "alternative outlets for the narritive" thing seems to dampen it imo. Judging from that live action thing we got yesterday, that's what's supposed to connect Halo 2 to 3... Why couldn't this be done in game? Oh and I only found one of the info station things and holy shit did that do nothing but confuse me. And if the story is supposed to be the ultimate fanservice, which it sooooo very much was for the most part, Gravemind got totally bitched. The dude deserved a proper killing.
Buggy checkpoints in the High Charity stage made it *MUCH* less enjoyable than it should have been. I'm a big fan of the flood, with the right perspective they offer a shitload of enjoyment, and the High Charity was designed with the same "Holy shit it's the Flood, run!" mentality as the second game's High Charity stage. The problem though, is that the checkpoints don't seem to register unless you are away from enemies, and even then it's a bit sketchy. Which means you can't just bust ass through the level without repeating tons if you die.
No elites. The game made me a believer in the brutes, but it still would have been fun to fight some sword wielding purple bastards.
Ammo conservation. Okay, here's when ammo conservation is fun: Those times when you are locked in a room alone with a handful of brutes. It adds tension and makes you think about every move you make. Here's when it's not: Everywhere else. Granted, the game would be much easier if you could run through it with unlimited BR ammo, but it'd prolly be funner too.
Drones still suck. Eh, what can you do.
Late game is all Flood. I like the Flood. I've said this. But fighting them gets kinda old. The turret/spider form or whatever the hell it's supposed to be doesn't spice things up nearly enough, they still can't aim their jumping swipes for shit.
Aliasing. It is fairly noticeable. I don't really care, but if I look for it, chances are I can find it. Also the human faces look silly/terrible/reallysilly.

Brutes. Okay so my favorite part in Halo 2 is right at the end as you fight 8 brutes or so inside a two level room. That stage design is not only mimicked outright in the second stage's hangar, but throughout the game you have brute showdowns where it's just you vs a bunch of ugly apes. This is so goddamn fun.
The AI This is so impressive. From the grunts who flail about in a frenzy if you off their leader before they even notice you to the grunts that arm two plasmas and just charge you down. Also all the other races that aren't Flood or Drones are equally impressive. I fucking squealed when I made a Brute turn into a sissy and run away only to get yelled at by another brute and turn around and fight me. Jackals seemed kinda dumb though, constantly retreating to try and get more range but totally exposing themselves as they did so. Also, wtf they they sux @ headshots.
Graphixx. The game is beautiful. Some of the cutscenes had me 100% convinced they were paintings with models imposed onto them. Like, you know, actual paintings.
The difficulty. Game is fucking hard, at least up till High Charity. Flood is ezmode.
There's so much more that I could expound upon. The game is Halo, but it feels so much more fierce. It's got a vibe of all out war that was so missing from Halo 2. That kinda gives way to silly fanservice hijinx later on, but still.

If you take your time and clean out the enemies as you go there are a ton of checkpoints. It seems that Bungie will only give you a checkpoint if there is a break in the action. So clear out some zerg and you'll get at least 4 or 5 on your way up the tower.

Woke up to find me copy of the Limited Edition sitting on my chair (my wife rocks), and dug in. Played the first level then did some multiplayer, then screwed around with the replays for nearly an hour.
I said superwow. It's a really amazing game to watch and move through. The lighting is beautiful in the earlier jungle scenes. Everything feels so smooth and polished. I'm having a blast. Hit me up for MP if you see me online. Now that I'm done with lunch it's back into the campaign.
