Don't wish RROD on yourself. I've been wating to get my console back for 18 days now.
It's legal, just spoiler tag spoilers.Seiken said:So how is Halo 3? Is it legal to discuss the game now on GAF?
Kritz said:Well, cocks and bother. Remember the fire? Well, that wasn't the end of it.
This shit just got real.
The whole area, within a 300 metre radius, has been blocked off due to the store's potential to collapse. Which apparently is life threatening. So threatening, the Halo 3 midnight launch at that store may be cancelled. Which, for those of you playing at home, is bad.
It's too late now to call other stores, so I'm going to try in the morning. Sadly, I don't have enough money at the moment, so I can't just buy a standard copy from another store and return it when I get my LE.
So much fucking anger right now.
Is anybody hurt or injured? Isn't that much more important then a videogame launch?Kritz said:Well, cocks and bother. Remember the fire? Well, that wasn't the end of it.

Moderate NAT should get you into a decent about of games, just expect drop out in partys![]()
There was black in the beta, if I can remember correctly..GhaleonEB said:It's not. It would be too much of an advantage in the darker areas of maps.
If moderate nat fucks up halo 3 its rather fucking stupid, halo 2 ran fine for me on the uni network last year and I was stuck on moderate too, only game to be rather stupid on it was lost planet after the first patch.homez99 said:So I got to uni yesterday, and my internet connection is less than useful, and gives me a moderate NAT on Live, which stops me from playing Halo 3 online. I'm going to try to sort the problem out on Monday, attacking the IT department's weakpoints for massive damage, but for me, this is terrible news as I hardly turn my 360 on when I don't have Live. It's probably equal in the pain factor as having a RROD.
homez99 said:I tried a few games last night, the COD4 Beta would say connection interrupted all the way through, and I couldn't join anyone in Halo 3, and I couldn't get into matchmaking. It tops off a weekend of absolute suckage, first my freeview box breaks, the previous person in the room forgot to unregister their MAC address (probably half the problem with my Live access), and I'm dubious about all the people here. Moreover, the internet is at a measly 400kbs download speed. So overall, this is sucking.
Kritz said:Nobody's hurt (Everyone got out of the area pretty quickly), and no. Nothing is more important than this video-game launch. (Am I being sarcastic? I hope so, but I don't think I am.)
guidop said:thats killa. Your talking about the fire in Hobart aren't you?
Hopefully they can sort out the whole situation tomorrow. Must admitted i lol'd at the size of your Myer when it was on the news in Melbourne tonight. Seemed so small from the footage on TV
I've been using forge a bit today and this seems to be a bit of a problem.
a) you can't select Carbine as a starting weapon
b) you can't put Carbines on 6 out of 11 of the games maps through Forge
c) you can't have carbines on the games maps using any of the preset weapon sets.
Anyone able to find a way around this
the maps are
Construct
Last Resort
Narrows
Sand Trap
The Pit
Valhalla

Can't wait to go to London on Tuesday for the Halo 3 launch event now, probably be my only chance to play some Halo 3 multiplayer, as if I were to say "Halo 3" to people in my hall, they would explode in unimaginable ways of non-understanding.

homez99 said:Really? This year? You're supposed to have moved in everywhere yesterday squire. I want you to hurry up and get here so there will be far less suck and I'll have some other Liveless poor soul to play some Halo 3 with, then we can make a gaming society and charge the internet department's settlement and rip them apart for great justice.

I just bought an internet switch, ran the switch out of the wall, then connected my Xbox and PC through the switch, and it worked great the rest of the time I was there. I don't remember if the problem was moderate NAT or what however.
homez99 said:Aye I have tried a switch good sir, I think the main problem is that this network point is registered to the past MAC address here, and that hasn't been taken off before my arrival. I'm hoping the internet department can unassign that MAC so I can register and assign my one, then give my 360 the laptop's MAC address as an alternate one, and I should be in business. Also, my other friend said he had a chum here who had to give them his 360 for 7 days to get access to Live. I have left half my stuff unpacked at the moment, as I don't want to live in a place that can't even give me the stuff I had a home, that is the grand suckage.

the coop mode is a joke, the global screen is halfed in size (I dont mean the split of the players)
story wise I´m bored, technically its beyond whats currently standard and I´m miss the uniqueness
the first few levels felt like "we have to give alot of new stuff to the player in old environments"
Manager said:I just did the university move too, and had the same MAC problem. I solved it by just buying a router, that gets the one MAC adress registered. Then I can just connect everything I want to the router, like the Xbox 360.
I guess you've already tried that (with the switch) though, but I would still buy a router for the future, instead of using PC sharing and so on.
(btw, my MAC was reseted of course, but when your is...)
In other news, my Xbox 360 didn't make it with the move. I'll recieve my Halo 3 copy next week, but my 360 won't be able to be sent until 10 days from now. It feels great.

homez99 said:Yeah, I'm guessing when the past MAC is cleared, I can connect my PC and 360 to my switch, register my switch's address with that, then I should be ok, as their guide does say Xbox Live should work lovely with it. If not I will have to bribe them to open some portage. So sorry about your broken 360 mate, my freeview box with an 80GB hard drive died in the move so I really feel your pain. On a brighter note, it's pretty awesome what an indoor aerial and a cheap £23 freeview box from Argos can achieve, I get every channel apart from Film4, Channel 5 and ABC1, all channels I rarely use.
Most games do that on cutscenes for a cinematic feel and look, but it sounds odd if they are forcing it on co-op games tooSon of Godzilla said:Ya, I also heard that the 360 cuts down the screen on movies too, wtf is that? Cant ur failurebox handle rendering an entire screens worth of data?
It's done to preserve the aspect ratio in widescreen. The guy is an idiot.Diablohead said:Most games do that on cutscenes for a cinematic feel and look, but it sounds odd if they are forcing it on co-op games too![]()

Those of you who don't have the game and want to experiment with the different armor permutations, here's a nifty little program that lets you do just that. It's basically what you can do in Halo 3 in terms of customizing your Spartan. So you can keep yourself busy with that in wait of Halo 3.
Needs .Net Framework 2.0, so if you don't have that you cand download it below.

I'm not sure, but does the switch have a MAC-adress? Aren't they quite "stupid"? I mean, if you want to use the computer and Xbox 360 at the same time, maybe a router would be a good idea. But maybe there already is some kind of IP-adress-giving network at your dorm?
I think it's a security issue too, the guys here are recommending a router (=firewall) as some university people always love to hack other people.

guidop said:To the best of my knowledge this is what you should do:
Goto the System blade in the 360 dashboard> Then press A on the network settings option> Once there, choose the Edit Settings option > There will now should be 2 tabs at the top press right on the d-pad which will bring up the Additional Settings tab> Now press down on the d-pad and choose the Advanced Settings, Host Name, Alternative MAC Address setting > This will bring up a page that will have your MAC address. Now write down the numbers and letters that are under "Wired MAC Address" in the bottom left of the screen
Those numbers and letters are you MAC address take that hexidecimal number and explain your situation to the IT Department and they should be able to fix you up
if you got any questions feel free to ask, hope that helps
homez99 said:Yeah I'm planning to do that if my switch doesn't work after registering my own settings on the uni's cablecom area, as the switch should be only 1 MAC address, and when I register it should just register that. Also, thanks for the help, it's wonderful that I can still rely on GAF and other places to help me in these difficult times. Wish I knew if anyone here are gamers, I need to own someone to get rid of some of my stress. A part of me wants to actually play my Wii, which isn't a good sign when I have Halo 3 simmering on my awesome chair.
rjcc said:what? I don't think you know how a switch works. if you can only register one device, you will need a router, not a switch.

I'm gonna call in on Monday, see if I can't get a few moments to speak with him. I think my chances will be better if I had a song to request that fit thematically in the Halo universe.
It's a classic rock station that plays a lot of Bob Dylan and The Doors, any suggestions?
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" might be a good one if the Chief dies. But I don't want to squeeze any spoilers out of him, mostly I just want to tell him how much a fan I am.
Maybe I'll get him to say that he "needs a weapon" on air. That'd be good enough for me.
edit: "The End" by The Doors might be a good one too
